Well, you may be right about a Bronco being better on the hwy than a Wrangler -- I haven't driven either so I can't say -- but both have short wheelbases (a 2-door Wrangler is the shortest of course) and so tend NOT to be that great on the pavement. On the other hand, my Gladiator, with its LONGER wheelbase -- a negative when off-road due to its low break-over angle (compared to the Wrangler's) -- is VERY nice riding on the hwy: Just did a 1400 miles round-trip (CO to TX and back) and it seemed to be a bit more comfortable (but about the same smooth ride) than my previous vehicle -- a 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD. That's saying a lot...and unexpected, hearing about how "terrible" Gladiators were on the hwy. But, when looking for a "serious" off-road focused 4x4 vehicle, I had to get a mid-size TRUCK -- vs. a mid-size SUV (Wrangler/Bronco) -- because I needed more towing-capacity than they have (my Gladiator 7000lbs, the Wrangler & Bronco an anemic 3500lbs). -- BR

Re: tailgate issue. This is the EXACT reason we're going to get rid of our RAV4. Bronco needs to go back to the old style they had...swing our spare tire carrier, drop down tailgate. It will shorten the length of swing AND if you tap something with the spare, there likely won't be any paint damage.

Solid axles are better at clearing large obstacles, slowly. Anytime you are doing anything else, IFS is just superior technology.
@tricd04443 жыл бұрын
At high flex angles, cv joints also start failing prematurely. For example, 2nd gen Dakotas with IFS suspension HATE any amount of lift over stock, everything starts binding and breaking real fast. Granted, it is a very poor control arm design and really belongs on a cheap car instead of a truck, but solid axles are generally easier to lift than IFS once you get to meaningful levels.

Just a comment on Wrangler handling, the steering is pretty easy to fix. Yes, it is something you have to modify, and Jeep SHOULD do it from the factory. But if you have one, and you want better steering feel, its easy to do. Not that it will drive as good as a Bronco, it still has a solid axle. But I can cruise for 4 hours on i5 with one hand on the wheel and not feel like its wandering. Oh, and for the Bronco handling, people have mentioned the drive quite a bit worse with the 35's compared to the 32's like the one you guys are in. Which is normal, but something to be aware of.
