You have been using your pot incorrectly! To prevent food from sticking when cooking with a non-coated pan (e.g., stainless steel or cast iron), follow these combined steps, with Option 1 for foods that need oil and Option 2 for those that don’t (such as soups): Common Steps for Both Options: 1/. Preheat the Pan: Begin by heating the empty pan over high heat for about 1-2 minutes. This allows the metal to expand, helping to create a surface that food is less likely to stick to. 2/. Add Oil and Heat It: Pour a small amount of oil into the hot pan and swirl it around to evenly coat the surface. Let the oil heat until it shimmers or just begins to smoke-this ensures it's hot enough to prevent sticking. Then ... Option 1: For foods that require oil (e.g., stir-fries, eggs, or meats): 3/. Discard the Oil (Optional): If you're following the method often used by Chinese chefs, you can discard the first batch of hot oil and wipe the pan with a paper towel, leaving a thin layer behind to further season the pan. This can help ensure an even better non-stick surface. 4/.Lower the Heat and Add Fresh Oil: After discarding the initial oil, lower the heat to medium or medium-low, then add a small amount of fresh oil. Allow it to heat for a few seconds before adding your food. 5/.Cook Your Food: Add your food to the pan, and the combination of preheating, discarding the first batch of oil, and adding fresh oil should prevent sticking, even for delicate foods. Option 2: For foods that don’t require oil (e.g., soups, watery dishes): 3/. Discard the Oil: After the oil heats, discard it completely and wipe the pan with a paper towel, leaving a very light coating on the surface. 4/.Lower the Heat: Reduce the heat to medium or medium-low. Since you won’t be adding more oil, controlling the temperature is crucial to prevent burning or sticking. 5/. Add the Food: For liquid-based dishes like soups or stews, you can now add your ingredients. The preheating and oiling steps create a smooth cooking surface that minimizes sticking, even without additional oil. This method of preheating the pan and treating it with hot oil ensures that your food doesn’t stick, regardless of whether or not you add more oil during the cooking process.

Liam we had very similar happen to us in Italy, they said we broke their wing mirror. We said OK let’s go to the police as we knew we hadn’t hit them so not suspecting a scam we thought they’re just crooked BUT this was in 2021. They weren’t happy with us wanting to go to the police and I must admit it scared the crap out of me. I put the phone to my ear and said I was calling the police. They got in their car and went. We were in a hire car not a camper, very scary. ❤️

Good to see you both ❤ Thank you for sharing the info on this scam, I sent it to my parents. They are in their late 70s and drive through Europe to holiday in Italy. That would be such a horrible thing to happen to anyone, but to older people who are uniquely vulnerable, it would be dreadful 😕. Thankfully you have kept your vibration high and been well prepared and as usual you've attracted some lovely characters to you on this trip. I especially enjoyed the passionate fruit farmer, the lemon sorbet seller and the wonderful pastry chef who continued her craft despite not being able to taste anything. Incredible people really make a trip don't they? Who have been your favourites? People have given *you* some great hints and tips along the way maybe? Now you are paying it forward and sharing them with us! So much admiration for the way you grabbed the series of unfortunate events with the Morgan situation and have turned it into opportunities for an extra visit to India and the Camino, plus some amazing unique micro camping adventures! I'm SO excited to hear your new plans. You always make the best of everything so I know whatever it is will have me pumped to follow along! ❤❤❤ A boat?...a new van?...maybe back to Ireland?... I've found the little stoves that take the butane canisters to be excellent, so I'm not sure why they did not work for you. On a recent trip I cooked four breakfasts and boiled the kettle eight times on one canister, and still had a bit left. I do have a collapsible wind shield that I use, so maybe that has something to do with it? The canisters are cheap and you can buy them almost anywhere, even some supermarkets. The only problem some people have is the canisters can ice up in really cold weather, so you just keep one canister warm and swap it out if the one in use starts to slow up. In warmer weather it's not an issue. Works about as good as any other gas stove I've used. My best camping meal is a one pan pasta verde that I can make at the drop of a hat. That and a glass of red and I'm a very happy camper.
@ThoseHappyDays2 ай бұрын

Keep an eye out for the propane butane mix canisters, they still work fine in the cold. 😀
@HolgerJakobs2 ай бұрын
Butane becomes completely liquid (no gas leaving the canister, no pressure left) around the freezing point. So it's of no use in winter outside. A propane/butane mix or pure propane is better in winter, but I'm not sure you can get this in the necessary form factor. If you really cook a lot, it might be better to get a real cooker with a hose and a refillable (or changeable) gas cylinder. Small ones by "camping gaz" have 2,8 kg, the grey steel cylinders start at 5 kg and are even cheaper, last longer than your holidays and are changeable in almost every country. Using those avoids a lot of waste.

Shame on Italian cops who turn a blind eye to scammers. In this country that constitutes as aiding and abetting. Hat's off to you for highlighting the issue. Maybe if people took licence plates and reported incidents more often they'd be forced to take the situation more seriously. Happens in the services and aires as well. On our way to south east france around Bordeaux a couple of weeks ago when we had parked up, a guy put his head in our half open window and very politely said our car had smoke or vapour coming out of the engine as we came into the services. We locked the doors and said thanks but its ok, put the window up and did not get out of the car. We drove onto next services and i stayed in car while husband checked under the bonnet just to be sure. Of course it was fine but we were rattled because our car had broke down in the UK causing us to miss the ferry and spend a night in a hotel! Now we never leave the car together, always one person stays with doors locked and windows up and handbags etc. Are well hidden under or behind seat. Sounds like paranoia but its not as its happening all the time now. Such a shame its putting us off driving in Europe after many trouble free years.

I have a cook top like that one and I used it for weeks before I had to change the bottle. I’ve noticed that you really need to keep the pot or pan directly on top of the flame though and that it can’t be too big. Maybe test a different type of pot.

When we returned to our car in a parking lot I noticed that there was someone sitting in the car parked in front of us, waiting. As soon as my friend started the car that person started his and drove backwards to ram us. My friend had superb reaction and avoided it, but you can imagine what would have happened next. A few days later in another city we found our car with smashed side window and our stuff stolen. F Italy!

@@HolgerJakobs In the meantime I have one, they really should be installed in every car by default. I recorded another accident like this, but this time she wasn't a scammer, she just tried her very best to avoid a reversing truck. A video says more than a thousand words.

Years ago there were guys with big leased pickup trucks that would drive by and slam their mirror into your mirror then when you get out attack you and take your truck. Some were killed too.

To prevent your food getting burned, have you considered a small tripod type device between your pan and the burner to lift your pan off the direct heat?

HELLO, I HAVE A BUTANE CAMP STOVE. I LOVE IT! THE UTILITIES IN CALIFORNIA ARE HIGH SO I USE MINE IN THE HOUSE A LOT! YOU COMPLAIND ABOUT THE BUTANE USE OF YOURS. I NOTICED YOUR LEVER WAS DOWN ON YOUR CAMP STOVE BURNER. IN THE BEGINING I USED TO LEAVE MY LEVER DOWN A LOT BUTANE SLOWLY WILL LEAK OUT OF THE CAN IF YOU DO! THE LEVER MUST BE UP AND THE DIAL TURNED TO OFF WHEN YOUR DONE COOKING. IF THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM YOU CAN START TO ENJOY YOUR CAMP STOVE MORE OFTEN BY MAKING SURE THE LEVER IS UP WHEN YOU TURN IT OFF. I HOPE THIS SOLVES YOUR PROBLEM.

I live in Southern Africa and overland across the region for 6 months every year and so I thoroughly enjoy watching and learning from similar work/travel experiences on KZbin. Of all channels I watch from folks across the globe I can't help but wince at the first world problems and solutions presented on this channel. I genuinely would love to see you both take on a circuit in my part of the world. Humans are never the ones to be wary of. I'm currently wild camping on the Zambezi valley near where the borders of Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique meet and one worry is bumping into a territorial hippo when I want to take a leak.

Nice vid with top info about the scam. Just a note on the gas hob. I live in my van and use a campingaz hob with similar gas canisters and I go through at most two cans a week and that's using it for cooking everyday and heating up my water for washes and doing my washing up. I thought that was brilliant. I can even usually slow boil a chilli for two three hrs and I've still got over half can of gas left.

We have a plug in induction hob that’s perfect for camping, also you can buy those insect nets in hafords and the fit over the window so you can keep the windows open but also be shaded :) we use it with the dog :)

Well done! It made me think of travelling in my Astra estate with 3 little dogs. I have heard some camp site do not allow it though. With an awning (something you did not use? ) it may be more accessible.

For sleeping bag storage instead of pillow cases buy some compression sacks. They are basically bags that have four straps built in. Stuff the sleeping bag inside then pull each strap to compress it down. Quick and easy and tekes up way less space. Used these all the time when I was touring on a motorbike. You can buy them for less than £10.

I joined your adventures around the time when you were experiencing troubles with Morgan and absolutely loved your travels in India. I have been longing to do more travel in Europe and have been keeping an eye out for the right van (we have a dog so that is realistic to do with her in a way that has more logistical challenges elsewhere). Although I don't think microcamping is for us, I have absolutely LOVED seeing you both undertake this adventure, seeing the beauty of places a motorhome simply couldn't go. It's also been really nice to see you able to chill a bit on campsites too, which I hope also offered something relaxing and a bit different for you. Despite some of the challenges with a smaller space, as you said a few times, travelling to the places you did on this trip opened up a whole new world for you both that you couldn't access in previous vehicles and it has been so cool to see you do so many wonderful things, from parties in Ibiza to the gorgeous Amalfi Coast. This whole series has had such a cool, chilled vibe to it. Thanks so much for all the work that goes into these videos, it is always such a treat to watch them and to get some great tips and advice along the way!
