As a proud Tasmanian and 20 years+ love affair with Pinot, I can also say Tolpuddle is one of the very best we have! I would also add Pooley's (2023 Best Winery of the Year in Australia from James Halliday) and Bay of Fires to the list, so many cracking wines from South Australia and Victoria, we are spoiled for choice! Great channel mate, subbed.

After visiting 2 years ago on holiday Tasmania is one of my favorite regions for Pinot Noir though it’s hard to find many of the producers in the US. My go-to bottle is Holm Oak Pinot Noir 2019 at $36. Love it!

So happy to see Hyland Estates in your video! I previously worked with them for years (Hospitality & Cellar) and their wines are a real hidden gem in Oregon. I travel around Europe with them as the wines and their quality are truly worth seeking out! Happy to Hyland making an impression that they deserve!!

Have had some Pinot noir from Oregon, just down the road from us, ok a little further than that but close enough. They tend to get pretty expensive by the time all the government taxes are added on here, but I love that they are a little more concentrated. A very good Pinot noir is hard to beat. I will look for the Pinot noir from Tasmania. Great tasting! Currently enjoying the Diora La Petite Grace Pinot noir Monterey 2020. Very nice Pinot noir at a great price.

I think that these wines are rather difficult to come by in some international markets. You would probably have to go to specialist importers to find these wines, so while I've read about them, I haven't tasted them yet. It is surprising that Oregon PNs are sometimes more full bodied that Santa Barbara or other cooler areas of California. Tasmanian PN is supposed to be great, but it seems that they need to increase planting and also work on their geographical indication before they reach a larger target audience. As at the moment Tasmanian wines in general are very much a niche product, IMHO. Nice video and good insight into two important & emerging PN regions. Cheer!

Thanks Matthew, Great tasting! I agree, cool climate Australia really is making some fantastic pinot noir. I recently tasted Farrside by Farr 2020 from Geelong... pure Pinot Noir character with a real sense of identity, not overtly Burgundian in style but also not needing to be. Excellent.

In order of preference for Pinot Noir all things being equal: 1. Tasmania 2. Sancerre 3. Willamette (dammit ;) ) 4. Burgundy (Bourgogne/Village) 5. Anderson Valley 6. New Zealand 7. Monterey Now, if you're throwing in 1er/Grand Cru Burgundy then it's probably going to be #1

How would you compare it to germanys top Spätburgunder producers? Both wines are about 60 Euros in europe. For 60 bucks you can get a bunch of highend pinots from germany.
@jameswingad3212

I tend to agree with that. Pinots from these regions are very good but I tend to find too that the prices for these wines are too high compared to what you can buy domestically.
