I usually go to german every year (except last year when I went austria) but due to the rona I haven’t been able to go this year. Love german. Fantastic modern country and the people are some of the nicest and down to earth I have ever met. Transport is excellent and the food is way underrated. Great place

It really depends, in the UK not bothering to spend the money on big upgrades has meant that the quality has really fallen behind in many places and that the system is more expensive to run as well. It's all about finding the right balance.

2:50 These 2-car trains are so-called "Taktfüller" (i.e. trains that run on the line during peak hours.) They often cover only a part of the route, unlike their big "brothers" with 4 cars, but run at 10-minute intervals.

@@Trockenshampooleopard This has been the most common simplistic response to this reality. It of course ignores the main fact that the virus lacks any level of lethality to those that are healthy in the main. It also ignores the fact that those small group who are weak and vulnerable to the virus likely suffer other ailments hence there weakened state, and that they’re now struggling to get treatment for those other life threatening conditions thanks to this drop everything mentality surrounding the virus. I’d also argue that attempting to shield vulnerable people from a transmittal virus across many months actually places them in greater risk than having them in a state of total lockdown for a short period whilst the rest of the country goes out and develops a protective immunity. People’s inability to consider a multitude of factors and view COVID with any level of nuance is a far bigger problem than the virus itself. And people like yourself are unfortunately at the heart of why we’re struggling,

13:11 The strange noise you're hearing every twelve sounds like a part of the train's pressure tight system. That bang usually comes when entering a tunnel at high speed and it's likely a valve that shuts to prevent discomfort on the ears, perhaps the system is just glitching or adjusting to pressure changes :)

Those doubledecker IC-trains are originally made for regional traffic, hence the small legroom. And as for Dresden main station one can see that the size and layout of the station reflects the time before WWII when Dresden was more important and busy as it is today (despite being the Capital of Saxony). In Leipzig - a major city near Dresden - the situation is similar. Its main station is even bigger than that of Frankfurt/M. but much less busy.
@outdoorolli5754
@outdoorolli5754 4 жыл бұрын
Dresden and Leipzig Central stayed busy after WWII, because trains were the main means of passenger transport in the GDR until it's fall. Late in the 90s people switched to cars and many moved to the West, so these stations only today seem to be inadequately large. But as public transport is promoted to have a comeback in the next years, one should be glad, that at least some of the central stations seem to have the capacity to do more business - unlike Colone, Hamburg and Hannover for example.

The overhead racks seemed large enough for a small bag, if poised sideways. Where would larger luggage be stored? By the way, I love the cafe style seating. It enables me to write my many post cards from my various journeys, while the train is in motion, thus not wasting a minute. Thank you for the tip about the vending machines only accepting cash. That helps to plan the journey better. I'll need to get edible supplies before leaving the station. I take the same journey in April..Dresden to Berlin Hauptbahnhof.

If your IC2 isn't in service a DB BR101 will run Warnemünde Berlin Elsterwerda Großenhain Berliner Bahnhof Dresden Neustadt Dresden Hbf. The reason why I knew Parts of the route it has to do with Dresden Hbf found on Dovetail Games train simulator world 2 Riesa-Dresden route. To the right of the Intercity ICE Trains freight and Regional tracks are S-Bahn tracks. Bench seating on the ends of the upper floor is unavoidable because the door is right below and its drive needs some space that would prevent putting regular window seats there. These benches aren't reserved, but at times of high demand I'm sure they are used by passengers who haven't booked a seat. They also offer a way for groups to come together. I like the little brochure specifically for that line. But they should modify the snack and drink machines to accept credit cards.

What really strikes me as odd is that German intercity trains always also stop at the weirdest small stations. Surely some stations are explainable, there might be an airport nearby, a big event or a city that just doesn't connect to the line but often this doesn't seem the case. Do local governments lobby to have these intercity connections?

I guess it is because the true fastest trains are the ICE, so these can pick up at some less major (but still moderately significant) stations?

Nowadays (from November 20) instead of Schoenefeld (now named Terminal5 of BER) the train stops and turns at BER Terminal 1&2. It enters the airport tunnel from the west and starts in the same direction again (Reference e.g: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnOUpYeFbdpljac)So most probalby it did it on your trip in October in Schoenefeld. The IC/s should be speedy trains. So my question is, how long did it take to change from the top of the train to the end, to change the direction, so relatively short before the stops downtown in Berlin (SouthCross and Main station...). The impact on the continuation to Rostock(Warnemuende) might be less important... Thanks!

@@SuperalbsTravels Well, in Germany You say „Nur bares ist wahres“ which means „Only cash is the real deal“ I think that summarizes it pretty well. People want to keep track of their purchases, and that is best done if you give away something. You will spend more money if you just have a plastic card that you swipe, or put in a snack machine and pull back out, you just don’t feel like you are loosing, or giving away something. There was a survey that showed 80% of Germans only use credit cards foronline shopping, and barely take them outside, and for the normal Debit cards, they are just used if there isn‘t enough cash in your wallet, or if you want to get cash form the ATM.
