Interestingly electric minis have been around since the sixties, with BMC building some prototypes. Back then they were powered by lead acid batteries, which took up all the space of the rear seats and they were a lot slower than this one today. There are some videos about them on KZbin, one where you can see two of them in action is called "1966: The latest ELECTRIC CARS | BBC News | Retro Transport | BBC Archive" if you are interested in that sort of stuff.

I remember lots of mini's having the wheels sticking out like this it was usually 165 /70/R10 I think. It's funny how a little bit of plastic made it legal. Almost all my friends who upgraded the wheels had them sticking out.

@ because you have taken one of the icons of motoring history. The first transverse engine and gearbox vehicle and destroyed the engineering genius that created it. For the miles that a classic mini does each year and the time it has been around it has more than paid for its carbon footprint and then some. This abomination is now full of lithium batteries and technology which is yet to stand the test of time. I say again it’s ruined. The builders have committed a crime against the motoring heritage of this once great nation
