I'm interested in this major because I love biology and want to solve problems like water pollution and excess waste, but I'm concerned about not being able to find a job that pays decent (at least 60k).

Get into GIS. Its a huge tool for env scientists. Employers will look for this. Many of my professors started their careers with GIS, starting salary usually starts around 40K and grows. Hazardous waste removal, wildlife bio, and env technician jobs are prob the least paid. Env science is a big field look into atmospheric science, hydrology, climatology. Those fields can pay up to around 100k at the senior level

Wow, seriously so inspirational. I'm currently 16 chic still in high school and I really want to go into environmental science and communications in that area. It's always hard finding advice about this kind of thing as my views and interests often differ considerably from my private school peers and teachers who are very much interested in becoming doctors, lawyers and earning a ton of cash. Thanks for your video it's actually been a huge help to me so thanks - if you have any more videos on this kind of thing could you please link them to me? Thanks again

Environmental science is the academic field that takes physical, biological and chemical sciences to study the environment and discover solutions to environmental problems. Sciences used in environmental science include geography, zoology, physics, ecology, oceanology, and geology. Environmental science also branches out into environmental studies and environmental engineering. It provides an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to the study of environmental problems.

This was very helpful and interesting! I'm going into my junior year of high school and so far environmental science seems like a promising field to go into after graduation. I love biology and science as a whole, and Im very interested in helping the environment, so I think this would be a good subject to study. I'm thinking about being an environmental scientist one day, but I'm not sure what other environmental science careers there are?

that last part is very important, about making even the thought of considering environmental science not a liberal topic but a nonpartisan truth-based issue...this is gonna be hard (though that doesn't mean we have to stop trying) because apparently some studies show that the more information you give the less some people believe...also about the part about the Silicon Valley-esque fervor for finding solutions. We all need to know that we need the integrity of the natural world for our wellbeing the same way we need our iPhones!!

I'll soon begin to study my bachelors in environmental science and I've always seen myself becoming a scientist. But living in "poverty" in all those years is such a scary thought, especially when you think about how expensive living in the city I'm living in is.. Ugh how will I manage to survive!

As one discovers a passion (and pursues it aggressively), it is interesting how things come together. You should surely take stock of the practical matters of life, sometimes juggling the practical and the dream, until the dream can become more practical. I wish you the best of luck.

The US must have quite a different system from Europe. Here in the UK, a BSc (undergrad) is always 3 years, an MSc (masters) is usually 1 year and a PhD is usually 3-4 years.

Corporate America had rather build a space ship and go live on Mars than spend money fixing this planet!
@DestinyJacobsMusic
@DestinyJacobsMusic 5 жыл бұрын
Craig Bigelow This is true but let me explain why. It’s because eventually our planet won’t be viable anymore regardless of what we do. Our planet will be swallowed by the sun or enter another ice age and we can’t stop that. What we can do is colonize other planets and ensure our species survives. We have the ability to predict the future and that’s what sets us aside from other animals, that and technology. So of course we want to use those skills to do these things

How can I as a business graduate come close to the world of environmental science?
@mtigon1
@mtigon1 5 жыл бұрын
Berend Casper Good question. Have you considered sustainability? Many MBA programs offer concentrations in sustainability for example (not that you necessarily need to go back to school). The prospect of building cities, businesses, and transportation infrastructure more sustainably are all topics handled by people with business backgrounds. Many businesses have sustainability chiefs. Sustainability is also a branding strategy for many businesses. Also, becoming more involved with data science, or being able to analyze large data sets could also bring you closer to this topic. Just some thoughts...
@berendcasper9233
@berendcasper9233 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for your reply, that is really helpful especially the remark about sustainability as a branding strategy. I am applying and have been applying to organizations that work in sustainability. I hope coninuous self-development while working in sustainability will allow me to work in the industry without a ceiling. If ever necessary going back to university could be an option.

It is much more to it than just that bro. For example, the single most destructive industry on earth's environment is currently animal agriculture by far. Did you even consider it? And inside that there are loads of processes occuring and many ways to make plant agriculture even more and more sustainable etc.... Telling you as i'm am currently at my first year of the degree, the possibilities and knowledge to acquire is extremely diverse and profound. Take care bro!
