While I sort of agree with you, its worth noting that its not as simple as nickel vs stainless. Each alloy has varying strength, PRS has harder nickel alloy frets than some cheap stainless ones. And of course the real price addition to the guitar isn't the component, but the additional labor. A proper strong stainless alloy requires more tool replacements, and more hand finishings, which is the bulk of the cost of a guitar. Thomman at that price point can't be polishing them as much as required, and its probably a lesser alloy. Again, it doesn't necessarily justify $2200, but its not apples to apples as you are suggesting.

Sadly it’s not just ESP. Dean and BC Rich are around the 2k range now too. It’s not actually inflation, in this case, it’s the result of economic distress due to the long shutdown the global market just endured. The biggest culprit (no, not the only one though) is World Music Instrument. For the last 20 years, they’ve rivaled Samick and Cort as one of the largest instrument manufacturing operations, and possibly the only “big” one that still has a plant in Korea and Indonesia, whereas Cort and Samick no longer have a Korean plant. Frankly, WMI has tripled their prices, so now all their clientele (ESP,Dean,BCRich and Schecter being among them) have to spike their prices just to make the same amount as before (typically around 30% markup). At this point I’d advocate for exploring other factories until WMI gets their act together. It’s a challenge because customers assign so much stigma to build locations, be it valid or hype. HMI out of India, or Inyen Vina out of Vietnam for example are two solid quality factories that could do a fine job, and for a fraction of the price, but I don’t think the players would let the operation move, based off of quality perception alone.

Prices are definitely going crazy, for everything unfortunately. I'm lucky I just snapped up a great deal on an Ibanez. A Prestige AZ24047, I had my eye on it for a while but it's more expensive than any guitar I've ever bought before so thought I'd wait until next year then buy it is a treat for finishing the first year of the music degree I'm doing atm. But have been seeing the prices rise more and more, this Prestige was around the £1600 mark a while back but now some retailers have it at £2199! I wasn't even considering buying it atm and was just clearing up some old bookmarks on my PC and one of those was to a retailer stocking this AZ. They had it at £1390, one left in stock. I'm guessing they weren't going to stock this model any more and wanted to get rid of it. I thought, if I don't take that opportunity I'll be disappointed next year when the only options are over £2k. Now I have to get my playing up to a point that makes such a lovely instrument worthwhile... ESP definitely seem to be one of the worst with these price increases. I can see it happening with drum stuff too (my main instrument) but not as bad as seeing some of these E-IIs at around £3000. The AZ I just talked about is made in Japan like the E-IIs and has the same type of premium brand components so crazy that ESP are justifying doubling the price for some fancier finishes. I wonder if the mid-range focussed budget brands will start to get some popularity with the kind of customers that would typically only go for established brands. Like Cort and FGN - which is actually a brand of the factory that makes the Japanese Ibanez models.

Prices are ridiculous on these. ESP is going to have to tone it down a bit. My best advice to anyone drooling for any of these models, wait about a year or two and buy used. You will save SO much money.

Honestly just wish they had more Seymour Duncan models, Duncan’s are my go to pickups and having so few options from one of my favourite guitar companies is so frustrating

Glad they left the price the same on the E-II M-I basically, although I do remember not long ago that model was like $1400 as well. As for the $3600 E-II, I really don't care how well spec'd it is, if I can get a Suhr for the same money, I'm probably going to do that instead. When I was growing up I felt like every band I loved in the melodic death subgenres was playing an ESP or a Caparison after Alexi's Jacksons were stolen, and I'm such a huge fanboy of the brand because of it, and I'm glad to see them venturing outside of satin black monotony year after year, but some of these prices aren't just "the world right now". Japanese production has been having uniquely big issues, to the point that 2022 ESP releases are just showing up at places now, and the Ibanez AZ7 has dealers quoting me 8 months (Tom Anderson can turn around customs faster than that right now). Things might go back to normal price wise if sales slump as MIJ production goes back to normal, but who knows. An LTD >2200 is just absurd to me, I wish nothing but the best for Gary Holt, but the only high priced LTD that makes sense in that lineup is Javier's, because there's simply nothing like it, sort of niche.

I bought my first ESP in 1987 for $500. It was a blue Strat and played like a dream. What I don’t understand is the naming/ branding. If I’m going to pay that much money for a guitar, it better say ESP on it. This LTD and E-II just doesn’t jive with me. Lucky fir me I have an Eclipse standard with the ESP branding. I’m guessing that’s what they’re calling the E-II now? I absolutely love ESP guitars. Schecter seems like the best bang for the buck theses days.

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES! But seriously prices are crazy. Bought an Original Series (Custom Shop) new two years ago. Just sold it used for the same price I bought it for. Even crazier considering the yen has devalued quite significantly against the dollar over the past 2 years.

Im diggin the gold super strat but..........why companies remain putting a volume know so close to the bridge is beyond me. every single guitar I own with a volume near the bridge I removed and rewired for single volume and single tone in the 2nd and 3rd slots....that first is a nightmare

$2500 and the bridge is a Floyd rose 1000 instead of an original. Of all the notes to take from Jackson, that wasn’t the move. The white e-ii m-I is gorgeous, my favorite of the bunch for sure.

I remember back in 2008 or 2010 not sure, i did bought brand new the kirk's ESP guitar for 1400€>from thomman Right now i do have some saving and i wanted to spend around 3000€ for a guitar little did i know I started by searching for Jackson guitars made in usa specifically, prices were stupidly high like i saw a jackson warrior xt at 3500€ Next up i searched for ESP guitars and i did found some INSANE high prices especially on the les paul shapes they were charging 2750€ approximately So i decided to go for a gibson standard les paul 2023 model for 2900€ because lets be honest here Gibson les paul is the only guitar that if you want to resale it again you wont lose much money from it

Gotta agree with the group.. pretty pricey man. I love ESP but come on guys you’re killin us!!

The difference in SS and plain steel frets is negligible. Buying them one set at a time may seem a little pricey, but LTD is MAYBE paying a few dollars for that upgrade. It’s a few bucks for the material, and a few bucks for the added time to sand them since they’re harder. The markups for guitars with this is a trend that’s going to die soon when AS is the standard. There’s no downside to them for the consumer at all. Some goof is gonna come in eventually and say that carbon steel frets have better tone because they’re softer. 😂

E2 prices is insane. Just before covid, with less than $3699, we could get an ESP USA M-II with real flame maple top. Moreover, with $3K+, we can other brand such as EBMM which surely has better material and build quality than E2.

I ordered a 2022 LTD and after waiting for over a year I canceled it. Originally told it would take 6 months. Yesh.

They can ask whatever price they want, but used market will dictate how much dealers will actually sell them new

I know this going to happen. That's why i go for used Japanese guitars lately . I refret them with stainless Steel and still cheaper than those guitars.
