Hey guys I have a question, do any of you feel "unbalanced" when a headphone only has a cable leaving one side? It makes me feel like something is wrong, it doesn't affect the sound (on most headphones at least) but it does bother me for some dumb reason. Looking for my people with stupid brains.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but isn't how wide a headphone sounds or doesn't sound is that to do more with psychoacoustics and tuning, as I've heard some closed back headphones sound very open and wide/expansive and some open headphones sound closed in and in your head.
@chrisk31277 ай бұрын
imo the design is the biggest influence, you could give it a "airy" tuning but it won't feel like an open back, pads and venting could help that feel closer though. I personally have a lot of issues with closed backs/in ears usually but got the the DCA E3 recently and it sounds and feels like an open back I love it.
@robertobuatti72267 ай бұрын
@@chrisk3127 Yes definitely depends on the design of the headphones, Focal's closed back headphones like the Elegia, Celestee, Stellia have some sort of small venting port to let air through which in term gives them a more airy open sound, most budget headphones that I've tried don't have the best acoustics and give you that closed in your head sound, recently I've purchased some mid-tier and higher end closed back headphones which are better designed to sound more like an open back.

It's a 40mm driver, focal never seem to mention the max power of their drivers, I think they'll be too weak / too easy to distort like the weak drivers in beyerdynamic and sennheiser headphones. I've yet to find something as fun as my M50X's despite having well over 10 headphones in my collection including Hifiman Arya. Anyhow great review, thanks.

Audio technica make a lot of headphones with similar sized drivers but carbon coated so they can do more resolution and transients than the m50x. Also they don’t look f ugly like the m50x. How flat is it, when compared to mixing professional headphones? In short, can it be used for mixing purposes?
@lagpeak61657 ай бұрын
For mixing I won't recommend closed back headphones, as they generally have a less natural sound reproduction and less ideal for critical listening (from experience and research), you can look up why open backs or studio monitors are better for this. However if you need the versatility of sound isolation, you may wanna look at the headfi tests they did and look at the frequency response. From glancing, I saw that it kinda follows a harman curve, which is good for some people while others consider it as being not flat. However that topic is kinda a rabbit hole so definitely go read into it! It can be argued the harman curve is the closest to what you'd hear from a studio monitor if I remember correctly but please double check 😁 from the graphs it might be too much bass imo but haven't look at it more in depth. Ofc professional open back mixing headphones and some consumer open backs would be the first choice to mix and master. For monitoring I think these would do fine
