Hey guys I have a question, do any of you feel "unbalanced" when a headphone only has a cable leaving one side? It makes me feel like something is wrong, it doesn't affect the sound (on most headphones at least) but it does bother me for some dumb reason. Looking for my people with stupid brains.
@oso_Peligroso

The closed back Focals never had the bass popping problem, but the Open Backs sure do. All of my OB Focals do it. The question is, do the Hadenys pop?

I'm just thinking out loud here, but isn't how wide a headphone sounds or doesn't sound is that to do more with psychoacoustics and tuning, as I've heard some closed back headphones sound very open and wide/expansive and some open headphones sound closed in and in your head.
@chrisk3127
@chrisk3127 7 ай бұрын
imo the design is the biggest influence, you could give it a "airy" tuning but it won't feel like an open back, pads and venting could help that feel closer though. I personally have a lot of issues with closed backs/in ears usually but got the the DCA E3 recently and it sounds and feels like an open back I love it.
@robertobuatti7226
@robertobuatti7226 7 ай бұрын
@@chrisk3127 Yes definitely depends on the design of the headphones, Focal's closed back headphones like the Elegia, Celestee, Stellia have some sort of small venting port to let air through which in term gives them a more airy open sound, most budget headphones that I've tried don't have the best acoustics and give you that closed in your head sound, recently I've purchased some mid-tier and higher end closed back headphones which are better designed to sound more like an open back.

I have tested both the Azurys and the Bathys. The extra 200 bucks are purely for ANC and bluetooth. The Azurys have much better bass, but otherwise the sound is very much the same. Bathys do have a popping issue when introduced to heavy bass... Personally i ended up betting a pair of Hifiman.

@@vikrambhaskar7976 They are better than the Bathys with a better soundstage, treble and bass. It's a 40mm driver, focal never seem to mention the max power of their drivers, I think they'll be too weak / too easy to distort like the weak drivers in beyerdynamic and sennheiser headphones. I've yet to find something as fun as my M50X's despite having well over 10 headphones in my collection including Hifiman Arya. Anyhow great review, thanks.
@18yearsoldnot

Audio technica make a lot of headphones with similar sized drivers but carbon coated so they can do more resolution and transients than the m50x. Also they don’t look f ugly like the m50x. If you want an upgrade you should get the wp900. I personally have the es10 but they need a good eq to sound fun but once you have the dap for that, they are absolutely amazing

Hey Josh! Thanks for yet another great input, I’m currently still on HD 660s, but I’m looking to upgrade to something more dynamic in the near future, and thinking of going closed back as a daily work horse, would you mind to share your thoughts on will Azjrys be fine for me or should I save up for Hadenys and go open back yet again? I like HD 660s midrange but they are a bit too warm and dark for me, and not very dynamic as well.

I am a fan of classical and also folk/bluegrass music. I notice that the Focal Celestee and Elegia models are somewhat reduced in price. I initially also considered the Bathys model. How flat is it, when compared to mixing professional headphones? In short, can it be used for mixing purposes?
@lagpeak6165
@lagpeak6165 7 ай бұрын
For mixing I won't recommend closed back headphones, as they generally have a less natural sound reproduction and less ideal for critical listening (from experience and research), you can look up why open backs or studio monitors are better for this. However if you need the versatility of sound isolation, you may wanna look at the headfi tests they did and look at the frequency response. From glancing, I saw that it kinda follows a harman curve, which is good for some people while others consider it as being not flat. However that topic is kinda a rabbit hole so definitely go read into it! It can be argued the harman curve is the closest to what you'd hear from a studio monitor if I remember correctly but please double check 😁 from the graphs it might be too much bass imo but haven't look at it more in depth. Ofc professional open back mixing headphones and some consumer open backs would be the first choice to mix and master. For monitoring I think these would do fine
