Wow it took a few tries for me to actually see the plane he hit. It perfectly lined up with the grey highway. I can see why he might have missed that. This is where calling out that you are taking off OR when you are doing a low pass is important, so this incident can be placed relatively on both pilots unless communication was made and one ignored the other.

And don't be an air hog. Just because you fly turbine jets doesn't mean that you own the whole sky. If you're going to fly that way make it clear to other pilots to stay grounded until you land. Whenever I fly my jet I always fly at a steady altitude and pattern when there's one or more aircraft up at a time and always announce your departures and landings.

Bit of a risk flying that with other aircraft flying, that said a foamy has as much right to fly as a big expensive model. Personally I'd wait and politely ask for 15 mins of clear air. Secondly did the foamy guy announce his take off? If he did clearly enough then the Ares pilot is at fault for flying through. If he didn't then the foamy guy is at fault. Communication is everything! Depends on the club really, busier clubs and sites need proper comms at all times.

2NDSIDE. I have been a spotter for jet flyers and 3D flyers. When doing any maneuvers such as a high speed or low speed pass down the runway you notify your spotter so he can clear you for that maneuver. IMHO (Spotters and pilot should be communicating with each other). Probably rambling at this point Sorry.
@emanuelmota7217 Жыл бұрын
So if either of these pilots HAD spotters those spotters were not doing their jobs. And at THIS field? Not a surprise.
@torchr3 жыл бұрын
1: You don't let a foamy take off with a jet in the air. 2: Your caller should call out any other plane in front of the jet, and not allow foamies to take off. 3: You land as soon as possible after a crash - anything can happen after the incident. 4; When you have a failed nose gear and a grass field on the side, land on the grass field. 5: Agree on the flight direction before takeoff, make certain everyone knows if it's clock- or anti clockwise. 6: If you maiden a big jet, ask the others if you can fly alone.
@alexmcmeekin26585 ай бұрын
Not arguing with your basic points but a foamie has every right to fly as much as a big dollar jet. That said the whole scenario wasn't great there, the jet guy took off whilst other much slower models were already flying and he didn't have a caller! Also with other aircraft already flying there was no apparent agreement about circuit direction, it seemed to be a free for all.

The grass is deceivingly thicker than it appears and could rip the gears out and spin the plane. The grassy area was not design to land on, and it was also flooded due to the recent storm. What on earth was a foamy flyer doing taking off with a Jet flying around anyway and clearly could see he was coming by in a pattern? Its always a 50/50 in a midair but on this occation I think the Foamy pilot got what he deserved! Pleased the Jet guy got his model down in one bit, he showed good control and skill to keep his head. Very lucky no significant components of the foam plane entered the intakes. Especially any metal parts or servos could've easily destroyed the turbine and caused a fire. Also lucky that the relative velocity was low and the 'soft' side of the foam aircraft cushioned the brunt of the impact. A head on collision or initial impact with different parts of the prop plane fuselage could've caused the relatively bulky LiPo or brushless DC to shear off the jets wing and/or control surfaces.
@flycatchful3 жыл бұрын
After reading the comments and seeing the video I have come to this conclusion. The pilot of the jet was in command 100% of the time. His flying skill were beyond reproach and his machine was airworthy even after the collision. The pilot of the other aircraft was negligent and totally responsible. Now with that understood the facts matter and most of the posters know nothing about this model airfield. The runway and pit area are on public property and no official club regulates what goes on in the air or on the ground. Bottom line is you fly at your own risk and accept no responsibility brought upon by your actions.
