I didn't realise the by pass went that far north. I just thought it went around Gympie and that was it. now I know why it took so long to build. I haven't been north on the Bruce for over 3 years now so looking forward to seeing it for myself.
@TheWandererAUS3 сағат бұрын
Yeah mate, I was the same initially. Wish I could say the run past Gympie northbound was better... But that's just not the case 😔 The next town north on the bypass list is Tiaro I believe
@robertgarland93423 сағат бұрын
@@TheWandererAUS Yes Tiaro is the next town but really its not worth by-passing as its a good chance to slow down and take a breather from high speed driving. you're in and out of Tiaro in around 3 mins even at 50 Km/h. Now with all the duel highway stretching Sydney to Curra, The coffs Harbour by-pass is the only one left to do now.

Well a lot has changed in the last 30 years. Thanks Rob for showing this we haven't been there yet. 110K/h is a bit too much for caravans I think they should be limited to 90k/h. We would have way less accidents with caravans
@nickislade5533Күн бұрын
Im pretty sure caravans are federally limited 100kph
@TheWandererAUSКүн бұрын
Yeah I'm not totally certain of the caravan speed limit. It could be 100... 90 isn't a bad idea either! You will love the drive now when going through there mate!
@petermiddo20 сағат бұрын
@nickislade5533 no, only in 2 states - WA and NSW - limit caravanners to 100kph. In WA, anyone towing a trailer, no matter how heavy, is limited. NSW have gone in a different direction and said that any vehicle or vehicle combination 4.5ton or more (stamped on compliance plates, not actually measured) are speed limited. I also think this is a joke. The matter isn't speed related, it's driver related. I have been towing caravans and heavy trailers on the road since I was 17, 34 1/2 years. The appalling skill level of drivers is to blame, not the speed they are travelling at. And this has dropped significantly since people took up caravanning during and since ethe pandemic. Not only that, the attitude and arrogance of the caravanning set is frightening and dangerous to all motorists! Mind you, caravanners aren't alone in this poor attitude.

When i was a young bloke holding onto a steering wheel of a an old LTL it would take 12 to 14 hours from calliope xross roads to outskirts of Brisbane Up to two hours from calliope crossroads to the yeppin flood plains and into rockhampton. I am looking forward to driving the Gympie Bypass but dont have plans to do so until July next year, at least the full length. A cheeky boys weekend to Rainbow Beach, or maybe even Kgari, might have to happen before then...... (i am so glad they made the exit for Tin Can Bay/Rainbow Beach) As far as Gympie dying off, studies have proven that, in all but a few instances, towns like Gympie who get bypassed thrive rather than die off, especially if they reinvent themselves or (like Gympie) are a pivotal role in the community they serve.

5000 klms to the rest of the Bruce Highway? Try 1500! It is ABSURD that the rest of the Bruce isn't 4 lanes and flood proofed. In fact, it's criminal. If the road was in either NSW or Victoria, the road would be done that way by now. The next big project to get underway is the Rockhampton Bypass which will have a massive effect on travelling the Bruce.
