The e65 when it initially came out, pre-facelift was an ugly and bloated mess in comparison to the sleek, gorgeous and classy e38. The headlights and kidneys looked droopy, let’s never forget to mention the initial rear lights/tail light positioning on that “bangle butt”. We know BMW where like okay let’s bring the 7 series into the new millennium and tried to reinvent the wheel and fell short but in my opinion I think post-facelift e65s when they refined the front, rear lights and styling was like an ugly duckling becoming a swan. I think those models have aged very well and let the e65 grow on me. That all said e38 > e65 but the f01 to me just feels too institutionalised and is lacking the personality that those predecessors had, too much resemblance with the f10 5 series and just looks like “Oh yeah 2010s BMW nothing special here”. But this new BMW iteration has just lost all that 7 series charm for me and I’ll refer it to as just the i7 which feels more correct.

Which there is proof of because the next gen 5 is already out testing and it has a normal grill and body design, in fact similar to the e60 design. X5 facelift prototype is also normal, new m2 prototypes appear normal.

BMW, I have been a loyal follower since I was a little boy in the 60’s and as an adult I was lucky enough to be able to afford the brand all across the models. I have owned over 25 BMW’s in the past 25 years! My favorite by far and the one who’s gives me the most pleasure to drive have been the 7. I started with several E-38 and bought/owned all the different & series including V-12 models, etc up until my latest 2022 BMW Alpina B7. I am so disappointed at the exterior design that I feel as if you have stabbed me in the heart ❤️!!!

I’ve owned every 7 series since the e38 including f02 750li,750, and b7 and also just bought the m760 7 months ago but bmw come on now, you guys totally messed up the exterior designs this does not even look like a bmw anymore. Jajja in the end it is a matter of taste. But I think they managed to make a nice execution of the current dual headlights fashion, and the thin headlights are well complemented with the thin taillights. The overall shape a little squarish but pleasing to my eyes. Do not like the wheels, they look like the ones on the Santa Fe, but BMW always offers a wide selection of wheels. The grille is big as would be expected, but the upper curvature helps integrate it to the body nicely, not like the horrible giant grille in the Tundra for example, that looks completely out of place, IMHO of course😅. Glad they uses cloth for the interior . At last a luxury vehicle breaks apart from the ever present only leather! Cloth is a lot more pleasing to the touch! A lot more. Kudos for that BMW. I do not know about the very small gear selector knob, we’ll see if it gets praise or hate.

Not a fan of yet another hideous grille...also the new Citroën/Hyundai light design. Front bumper design isn't great either. Rear on previous gen was a masterpiece. This is a step backwards. Even from the new BMW range..generally the rear side is good..but it's really weak here. Interior at the front is a different story. Love the crystal bar and intrgrated touch button aesthetic. Steering wheel missing the 3rd spoke is a bit odd..would have been a lovely aesthetic feature. Centre console could have done with more effort but generally it's ok. Rear side it's a shame there's no trim on the door...that's what you expect in 1 series and maybe 3. But at the benchmark car. Not aesthetically thr best...previous gen wins here too. Rear centre console is a bit simple too...there's no ambient lighting at the back at all. Screen is a nice tough I only like the interior from the front in this car. I hope the next 5 series doesn't look this hideous and more like current gen. Also with interior crystal feature for interior.

@@BMW at first, I was reluctant to go full Electric. Due to climate crises, we must. That Electric motor is Amazing. Zero lag time. Hate Tesla; period. The design grows on you and the infotainment package on the i7 looks Amazing. I have to phase out of gasoline. That takes effort on my part.
