Saw one of these up close about a week ago at an indoor track. The thing you notice right away is how much quicker the bike is off the line. The kid riding it was more of an intermediate level rider, but he was able to get a bike length or two ahead of all of the other 50cc gas bikes in his practice session on each and every start. The other thing that is very noticeable, is that this bike had the same quick acceleration after landing a jump. Now I will say that most of the kids at the track that night were not jumping big, but what I noticed is that upon landing a jump there is a momentary power lag before a gas bike gets its momentum back, whereas this e-bike seemed to take off as soon as the rider landed and got back on the throttle ... and that quickly put more distance between him and the kids on gas bikes. By the end of the 15 minute practice session, the kid on the e-bike had caught up to the back of pack, and then starting passing about the last half of the kids in his riding group (and again, he was not the most talented rider on the track that night). For those that think this bike is too expensive, someone posted a comment that I thought was probably pretty accurate. That is, that because this bike is adjustable, it is likely going to be something your kid can ride for several years (2-3 or more) before they outgrow it. And you don't have to constantly change transmission oil, clean filters, add premix fuel or adjust jetting. So in terms of value, the price really isn't that bad. Now consider that they're adding a special class for this bike this year, and that there may not be that many people racing in that class yet. This might give some kids (for a short period) a chance to qualify for and race at the national championship (lorettas). But to me, the biggest advantage is the lack of engine noise. This bike can be ridden in a back yard and no one would complain (about noise). More seat time makes for better riders at this level. Yes, kids who grow up on these bikes will not learn clutch control, but gassers in this size don't really have manual transmissions either, so it's a bit of a wash in my opinion. If you're thinking about pulling the trigger on a bike like this, I say go for it!

Lets be real here... When your 10/10th's ripping around, racing, I block almost all sound out, the zone for me is just vision/ reaction. I love BMX and after the years I figured mostly it was the freedom and peace and quiet that came with the bike. My point I think getting over the Brappps we all love and concentrating on just riding without sound could make you better. It could make the next batch of kids able to be on a level of realistic and affordable racing and able them to get the deals to further there journey. I hate to say this, electric bikes will be better. This new KTM is better then the gas bike and if its not it will be next year because the rate of battery technology. Sense of speed will always be sense of speed, it doesn't matter what sound is attached or lack of.
