Yes it's kind of amazing that even now you can order one and have it here in a few weeks. Valve was really smart with the Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED by handling the sales themselves and requiring people to have an account in good standing with prior Steam purchases. It helped ward off the bots and scalpers and let the systems end up in hands of actual users.

I actually like the black logo on the special edition case over the orange one, because the biggest benefit of OLED screens is the ability to actually turn each pixel off for true blacks. So it makes sense to me.

I love that they switched to hex screws instead of phillips head screws. I saw lots of posts online complaining about stripping the screws and this was the obvious fix.

In case anyone is wondering, it's obviously orange since that is part of the color scheme for valves logo. Even though it does have more of blood orange hue to it. It's still orange.

Got to open and start setting mine up last night. The buttons and some of the marketing, as well as the dot on the startup for the OLED look more red, but the actual plastic in person absolutely looks orange. The LE OLED is totally worth the extra $30. I am honestly surprised it's still available a week later.

Idk how it looks in person but in the video that OLED display really makes the black bars when gaming in 16:9 blend in with the bezels near perfectly

Anti glare will ruin that effect in harsh lighting, go for the glossy one or put a glossy screen protector on the pled to preserve true black levels. People literally use a blade to take off their anti glare on the g9 pled for the same reason

I think it is International Orange (Areospace), not red for sure. And SE of this unit is just exceptional, there is something in transparent cases for devices.

Only reason I bought a SD OLED was for this sexy ass translucent LE. I've had it for a few days and I still can't get over how good it looks. Also With that cardboard wrapping around the case, you can just slide it off without ripping or cutting it.

It is Orange, Black, and Grey and I guess it’s supposed to evoke the colors of Half-Life’s HEV suit. Just in time for the 25th Anniversary of Half-Life, the game that made Valve and changed gaming forever. Valve celebrated it a week after announcing the Steam Deck OLED.

Crazy the LE is still in stock. It sold out briefly at launch and i thought that was it. Then it came back minutes later with 2-4 week ship time. Now its still available a week later with 1-2 week ship time. Not much limited about it.

That does look better than expected, the orange comes through much better where Valve's photos made it look more red. More tempted to go order it again, since it's still available, but I think I'm wanting the glossy screen and lower price. Would definitely have paid the price bump for the housing if they offered it on the 512GB.

I have both the original steam deck (64gb) and this one, and even the jump to 1tb storage made me so happy. But I LOOOOVE the translucent shell on it. I find myself playing games, and then having to occasionally flipping it around to look at the back very quickly, and then smell the vent of the steam deck LOL. I smell the top of the vent cuz it smells so good.

Valve does have a thing with the color orange, so I'm putting my money in the orange bucket. they released something called The Orange Box, a while back. ever since Half-Life it's kind of been their thing. Half-Life is also 25 years old this month so it wouldn't be surprising if that's what they're going for here

Could you please be able to provide a comparison between the 1TB etched screen (Samsung panel) and the LE etched screen (BOE) panel? I think you are the first reviewer having both, and there are lots of fans wondering how the panels compare. Some also found out that the LE is lighter than the 1TB, can you please confirm? Thanks for the review. Mine is on order! 2023 has been the Year of the Gamer and the Steam Deck OLED Special Edition is a brilliant capstone to a “Red Letter Year”. The color I’m seeing is orange with a reddish tinge -sort of a Halloween candy color of reddish orange. I suppose they’re hearkening back to the colors of Half Life and the Orange Box Collection. Whenever I watch content about OLED tech, I always find it funny how many people are watching on LCD/IPS screens. Most phones made in the past few years use AMOLED (thin OLED) panels so it's almost always worth watching from your phone rather than your PC/TV, unless of course you already use an OLED monitor

This display on a costum made portable pocket PC is fanstastic❗ If this display would be buyable seperetly and fully compadible with Rasberry Pi and similar board computers. Valve also would get a massive boost on costum built gaming handheld users.

Bad mindset! There are 1000’s of older games I’ve been wanting to play that I can easily on the Deck. If I want to play the latest and greatest games, I prefer to at 1440p max settings on my desktop anyway. Who wants to play Alan Wake 2 at 720p 30fps low settings?

​@@studentzero9576first off the SD can't even run AW2. Also low settings on newer AAA games are like mid settings from a few years ago. The graphic fidelity level are now different requiring better hardware. The SD is still good for the next 1-2 years. I don't have one myself and I don't know if I will since I have both the Ally and Go right now. These are 2-3x more powerful than the SD so they're not gonna be great for the next 3-4 years. Also I can't stand playing games in 30fps anymore and I grew up mostly playing it like that. I need 60fps now, preferably 90fps+ or even better 120fps.

Cool special edition if you want something more subdued. Personally, when I go for a special edition, I want it to be more all out and wild, and a black translucent shell just doesn't cut it for me. I got the 512GB model with the intent of making it atomic purple with blue accents. Maybe green.

The case is actually 2 in 1. You can separate the outer part from inside at the velcro strap and have a thinner case.

Your eyes aren't deceiving you. It's very much orange, albeit on the darker/deeper side. My color picker is putting out "Tango", "Flamingo" and "Jaffa", which are all types of orange.
