Many thanks ❤ for the review. I am the solo developer of Highrise City. ☺ A big focus was performance, so that cities of +20 million inhabitants are possible. 😇 My largest city was 27 million inhabitants. However, more RAM is required for such large cities. The game itself has a good fitting soundtrack while you expand your cities as mayor. Why did I develop Highrise City? The latest part of Sim City was released in 2013. This part had disappointed me so much that I decided to develop my own Sim City with complex gameplay, just as I had wanted it for a long time. When Cities Skylines came out it was nice, but didn't offer any complexity (for me). It was more of a sandbox game without deep gameplay mechanics. By the way: There are two additional game modes that significantly increase the complexity of the city-building simulation and are for players who want to be challenged (if that's what you want). To unlock them, you have to build the spaceport with several construction phases and launch a geostationary satellite. One feature activates different groups of workers. Industries then need certain groups of workers. This increases the complexity of large cities. Maybe I can give some people a new feeling for a citybuilder with this game. stay healthy. ☺

I'd love a city builder that doesn't have me suddenly being forced to spend hours rebuilding the transportation network honestly. Meeting resource and industry demands sounds more my thing (which is why I like the Anno series. Roads are just to let you know where to put houses and buildings)

happy you went with a focus on performance. CSls 2 suffered a lot from it and its a big reason i never picked it up. ill for sure be looking into getting high rise city youve made a wonderful looking game

I love how Tom tried to stick to the traffic laws during the first delivery and had a car so rudely spawn right in front of/inside his van! And then basically every other time he just Ghost Cars his way to the finish.

I do like how City Skylines is transportation focused (makes sense based on their roots) and this is more resource focused to the point that all you need is one type of road and cars kinda just pop in and out or phase through each other if really needed. Different strokes for different folks, but I think I'd enjoy this more than Skylines even if it lacks the granular detail Cities has availble.

Just realized city builders always start you off in a wilderness. Would be hilarious if someone made a game where you incorporate a city in an already heavily developed area. Call it housing crisis simulator or something

The old SimCity games had pre-built cities that you could start with too. They might have been called scenarios? I remember one in SimCity 3000 that was modeled after the East/West divide of Berlin. The one half was built up and the other was ramshackle.

The problem I'd find with starting in a prebuilt city is that. You start in a prebuilt city and my mind is like "What do I do? Where do I start? Everything looks developed already! I don't want to tear down these roads!"
@stylesrj
@stylesrj Ай бұрын
What however would be interesting is that you have to unlock water, power and sewage, etc. Before then everything runs on the municipal system and if you want cheaper energy you build a power plant, or cheaper water you build pumps. Because it kind of seems silly to start a city in the middle of nowhere and you gotta place down a big smoke belching coal plant to provide power for those two houses... And if you don't have enough power to meet demands, it should draw from the main grid. Same with water shortages. And maybe there could then be events where those external systems might fail or jack up their prices due to demand...

Soothing sax music & city building being narrated by the dulcet tones of ol' Angory Tom, with a nice _“Bam”_ type sound effect when placing buildings. I am grateful for the High Rise City folks sponsoring such a welcome return to form. My nostalgia & desire for seeing crazy planning choices, mutant sounds, & water edits is immense.

I like the changes this brought. Not always the hugest, but when compared directly to probably the most obvious city builder counterpart, it still stands out while still being "build a normal city". Especially considering how the other comparison title came out, bit of a *paradox* this solo dev title seems so much more attractive.

Not sure if it's a good idea, but the game could take ghosts of your deliveries and use them to plot future traffic. The bad part of this is it would track that liberal use of sidewalks.

I'm looking for an Australian city builder. So where you illegally flatten an endangered habitat, then get a third-party contractor to build roads only to have them wash away in a heavy rainstorm, then have several people start building their dream homes and get to various stages of completion before the build companies go bankrupt and leave unfinished houses everywhere. Too real?

this is exactly what ive been looking for! i hope more indie projects can come in and take more of cities skylines stuff. i've never been the biggest fan of anno, but i have over a thousand hours on cites skylines 1 just on steam, i also owned it on switch way before the steam deck came out. i tried and quickly got very bored and disgruntled with CS2, it just isnt ready yet. this game looks amazing and i love the resource balancing concept to city building and growth. i am going to buy it on steam because thats where the clickable link takes me and i want to help out tom, but since this is also out on GOG i would love if future adverts tom puts out has the choice of multiple platforms if available. great ad video and great marketing to go with tom!

My one nitpick about this game is, you start with wood from harvesting it from wooded areas so you'd half expect your citizens should start building only wooden structures. And yet here they are building structures having Glass, concrete, bricks and steel. So where did they get those other resources? Granted you can build a seaport early on and trade for "tools". So could those tools also include building materials I wonder?
