the reason that shows like King of the Hill and South Park work while these don't is because the creators/writers for those shows are willing to challenge the protagonist's beliefs to see if they hold water instead of just making the entire world one big strawman for the them to knock over

King of the Hill has a similar premise but handles it so much better. It's about a middle aged conservative man in an ever changing society. The difference is that he actually comes to understand, learns to adapt, and sometimes even comes to appreciate these changes. There are sometimes moments of criticism of modern society too, but at least there is actual social commentary, rather than just unfunny edgy jokes.

A show about an older guy who’s right wing and a conservative navigating the “new normal” is literally just king of the hill, and people loved that show. Because Hank was a decent person who had his own opinions and values, but also tolerated and tried to understand things like feminism, race relations, and queerness. That’s the part a lot of “anti-woke” cartoons miss when trying to make a show like KOTH. If Hank were transphobic and always dunked on the libs nobody would have watched it because it would’ve been annoying to sit through. And we see in a sidequest he is directly called a man and Vivian doesn't deny it, even though context is all of them snapping back at the character. Due to these facts, the remake is actually the one censored, and this is just a fact given they remove other stuff like goomba thugs in the sewers flirting.

These cartoons have inspired by own series about a grouchy old man, who's youngest grandchild comes out to him. He, with time, has to realize how to accept his grandchild and the entire community. Alongside his grandkid, who helps educate him on topics he never was able to learn. It happens through multiple episodes. He doesn’t just wake up and accept people. No, he has to learn, and his grandchild is willing to be patient with him, if that means he will accept them.

It's the game itself. And you OBVIOUSLY have not played the game, as you'd know his gender is mentioned five times in the entire game, and none of them were by him, and all of them were other characters and the game menu itself calling him a boy. He has no character arc relating to it. It is not mentioned once in chapter 4. And some character arc where he is directly called a man in a sidequest, long after he leaves Beldam, and Vivian doesn't even deny it or try to correct it, despite each partner having lines telling him off.
