The thing about the “My Leg!” gag is that it had the same sort of breaking point as the Homer bush meme. There’s the joke in the 20th anniversary special where Plankton forces it out of Fred, and he sounds tired of it. It’s got the same energy as the SimpsonsWorld joke where the character itself is sick of the joke, but it rings hollow now that they’ve kept doing it afterward. If the staffs of these shows don’t want to give the impression that The Simpsons and SpongeBob are only still around for nostalgia, then I believe they shouldn’t be this reliant on jokes they already told last century.

I wish references could be more subtle, like if Homer was escaping from some crowd and he just so happened to back into a bush to escape. Reminds me of recent Sonic and how the games went from stories functioning as sequels to one another, to standalone stories that barely acknowledge previous entries, to frequent references to past events.
@hype54562 ай бұрын
That's been something really a problem given the current writing, it's never ever subtle it just pops out of nowhere like a family guy cutaway. A callback done well is Eggman and rouge talking Tails victory over him in station square when he saved it. Or Sonic saying stubbornness is his saving grace while in heroes he says that's also Shadow's
@veggsbacon18912 ай бұрын
I think the frequent references from the past kinda drive me nuts. "You all remember green hill, chemical plant, etc?! Don't yoo just missed the pAsT?!" Yes, I remember, but I don't care anymore. They're not special. MOVE ON! Or you know, REMAKE old games so we don't have to resort to emulation all the time. Sonic Advance trilogy + Battle, Sonic Rush duology, Storybook duology, Sonic the Fighters, oh definitely the 2 Adventure titles, Heroes, Unleashed (give it a "shadow generations" treatment by having Knuckles play another part of the story. Hello?! What's up with the Master Emerald while the world is shattered? New lore? Sure!). THAT'S the nostalgia I'd love to witness.

The Treehouse of Horror sketch was written by Selman (and Showrun by him & Carolyn Omine), and the recent episode that brought it back was an Al Jean Showrun episode. Curiously, I've noticed on Twitter that Al Jean and Matt Selman seem to only promote the episodes that they were the showrunner of.

That's one of reasons why I respect writers of Portal 2, they had a rule specifically stating they can't reference "the cake is a lie" line even though it was one of the biggest memes in gaming industry after first game came out

It's funny that you talk about this joke, this week in France someone was fired because they sent this meme in their work chat

Seeing the montage of classic simpsons jokes that people use each and every day, and being able to know exactly what's being said, is wild.

On this episode of "LSMark mad at people having fun."

It feels like whiplash to verbally hear Mark acknowledge Brian being hidden in his thumbnails. I can't believe we're at this point in the LSMark writing... ...jokes aside, Im honestly impressed at the level of discussion that came from just talking about this meme's useage and how a joke just starts to be noise. Some people get handed a pair of cymbal's and never tire of hearing the sound they make clashing against one another.

Long time lurker, first time commenter. Just wanted to say your voice is very soothing. I could fall asleep listening to your content.

I didn't even know they did it more than that first time. It gives off the same desperate vibe as when SpongeBob pushed the "My leg!" guy super hard.

Fun fact: The hedge scene, alongside Homer chasing Ned’s van are references to Terminator 2. The hedge references the T-1000 phasing through a set of metal bars to hunt the Conners, and the car chase with the golf clubs… yeah, that’s the scene where the protagonists try to escape the T-1000 in a police car.

You leave the rake gag out of this, LuigiSonic Mark! It had a really funny spin in the recent Yellow Lotus episode

So LS Mark stands for "Loves Sonic" Mark, thanks random outro voice

Wasn’t this gag supposed to be a Terminator 2 reference?

I think the best part of the spongebob "my leg" episode is fred, the leg character, saying he injures himself cuz of love. Like my stupid mind thought "okay he's a masochist". Now the joke kinda ran it's course cuz without that sort of reason it feels very one note now, even as someone that enjoys recent spongebob I know this is about the simpsons but I wanted to get that comment on the my leg episode off my chest

Actually the hedge gag is a reference to Camilo Sesto's 1978 álbum "Entre Amigos". Such an obscure thing for the Simpson's writers to reference, but just to show their genius.
