The New Old Age | Aging Matters | NPT Reports

There's never been a better time to grow old. Americans are living longer and healthier lives than did previous generations. But this long life will bring challenges. In Aging Matters: Overview, NPT explores the changing face of aging and what our community faces as the baby boomer generation grows the over 65 population to unprecedented numbers. What does it take to keep loved ones in their homes as long as possible? Do we have the housing and transportation to meet their needs? How will the medical system be tested by the increased longevity and the complex needs of seniors? Who will care for those with physical and cognitive limitations? No matter your age, these issues will have an impact on your life whether in the home, the workplace or the community.

I recently retired and I'm helping to raise my two grandsons with autism who live with me. I can't imagine being lonely or bored. I really believe if an older person is not disabled, and is lonely, they can look around and find ways to give instead of receive. Nobody owes us anything in this world. There is no reason to feel useless or lonely.

@@Chataine91 Awww thank you it is a mindset that I've always had. Now I'm full time caretaker for my exhusband that has dementia because my daughters are too busy with their disabled children to do it. I feel blessed to be the caretaker and healthy enough to do it. My days are busy and full and I love it that way. I hope I can work and help others this way until I suddently drop dead someday.

I'm 37 Years old and just started saving for retirement when I was 29 years of age. Started a bit late, but better than never starting to save. I've been working full-time for the last 11 years straight and planning to continue working until I'm at least 65 years old. Even though I've saved a significant amount of money, I'm still worried that I may lose my job and have trouble finding another. This will eat away at my savings real quick, so I'm very aware of the financial difficulties that may arise at one point in my life. The rate I'm going, as long as there aren't any financial speed bumps that may arise, I will have $200k saved in the next couple of years. Hoping to save close to $1million by the time I'm 65 so I can retire.

The concept of life, is it an unwanted & unexpected accidental (explosional) event without any purpose & direction or is it a purposefull & highly carefully design of superior forces unseen to human eyes, known as God, gods or society of gods, now these two theories decides how you will live your life till the end, if you believe every thing is accidental with no creators & purpose in life, then how you live & whatever happens to you all through your life must be to a certain degree accidental and you just have to live with the consequences of this way of living and accepte it happily & joyfully till the end of your life on this planet, another word accidents such as big bang doesn't create hopes, accidents usually destroy things & hopes, so a hopeless human in life may make many mistakes that may affect his or her life badly & sadly, specially at old age when you are in most need for hopes (hopes for health, longer life, money & comfort) since accidents destroy hopes, if you believed life was the result of big bang, then at old age you will have no hopes to what is beyond old age, old age is a stage and beyond that must be other stages unknown to human intelligence. Now on the other hand if you believe in Gods as creators of whatever that exist, then you have high hopes all through your life even at old age & beyond old age, now living a godly life can affect your life especially at old age. Now Gods have commanded, if you live a good & godly life, the days of your life will increase and you will be safe, healthy & happy all through your life and can even be hopeful for stages after this life which is unknown to human intelligence now, so Gods have even commanded those humans at old stages of life, if they ask they shall receive and can still have hopes for better living conditions at old age, another word, Gods are saying this life experience of humans shouldn't be an unpleasant & dreadful experience, but because some humans make the wrong choices & decisions in life, therefore they face difficulties, sadness & discomfort at some stages in life, only those who believe in Gods have high hopes when facing old age & difficulties at any time in life. Another word, gods have commanded, you make us happy by living a good & godly life, then we make you hopeful & happy in life & beyond this life.
