The NEW Pa State Record Buck Shot In The 60's?

This is the new Pennsylvania state record typical, but it was shot in 1962. The buck was originally killed by Frederick kyriss in Montgomery county, Pennsylvania some time in the early 1960s.
The rack sat in a barn amongst the collection of Mr. kyriss’s other bucks that he had harvested for more than 40 years until his wife had a garage sale after he passed away. From there, the rack along with the entire collection of antlers was bought by an antique store owner. The rack again stayed out of sight of the public, being stored in a back room for the next 20 years.
It wasn’t until 2018 that the rack would see the light of day again. A man who bought the rack for $40 from the antique store went to the PA trappers association rendezvous and didn’t even make it to the door before a vendor bought it off of him for $100 in the parking lot. Once inside, the vendor only owned the rack for a few hours before selling it to a neighboring booth for $200. From there, Jay Fish bought the rack for the new legends collection and eventually sold it to Kieth snider and the North American Monster Whitetail Collection.
From there, the original rack made its way to its final home at the wonders for wildlife museum in the Springfield, Missouri Bass Pro Shops. The rack boasts 3 tines over 13” and is officially listed at 204 6/8” making it #5 overall typical in the world. To put it into perspective, its left antler scoring 102 3/8 is only 1” smaller than the right side of the general.
Be sure to check out the full video in the comments and let us know what you think of this buck!

This is amazing. Considering I grew up in Montgomery County, PA I know the hunting pressure there. I know that there are still some giants that are tucked in private suburban areas. I enjoy listening to these stories where these giant racks are found tucked away in some barn or garage. Seems hunters were more humble or private back those days.

That's awesome.....I'd like to share a short story. 1981 I was squirrell hunting in WV at the age of 13 approximately 2 weeks before rifle season. I heard a grunt that sounded like a pig to me and very loud. It was around 50 yards from me and was trotting towards me and stopped at about 15 yards away a very massive whitetail buck that looked like an elk to me. My jaw dropped and he stood looking at me for approximately 1 minute. I was in awe and I believe with all my heart was bigger than this buck your showing. My best guess is that it was at least a 16 point at approximately 2 feet high and 2.5 ft or more wide. I know it sounds ridiculous but the following season my Father missed it with a arrow while archery hunting and he couldn't believe it either....hard to believe we've never seen any thing close to it since not even at shows. Although this one is comparable it's not . This is a beautiful rack thanks for sharing.

@@willardsherman4499 why shouldn't it be recognized? As far as we know it did come from Pennsylvania. If a deer is killed by a hunter, automobile, old age, predator or recovered from a poacher, it is still the largest example of what that state can produce.

I live 10 minutes from where the buck was supposedly shot. My family has been in the area since the 1950s and i have other buddy's that lived in the area since the 40s. None of them ever even heard of this buck. They were all big hunters and usually when a big buck like this is shot no matter what time in history you hear about it and nobody did. There is only one place in the area where deer get that big and it is on the Gratersford state prison where nobody can hunt and that's right where the guy lived. I have no proof but i think that's where this buck came from. Now maybe he shot it right off the prison grounds who knows. I don't think it should count cause we don't know if it was shot legally or not. It should be in a separate category. Recognize but not counted. Just like the pa archery record. Guy shot it in October and found it in December. Should not count. Now a big buck in our area is 140 to 150s. It is very rare to get anything bigger than that in our area. Can count on one hand in 42 years how many times i have seen a buck bigger than 150s in Montgomery County. But regardless of how it was taken it is truly an amazing deer and one of the all time monsters.
