Welcome back to RBR and the first #Porsche series production model to convert to full EV - The all new #PorscheMacan!
There is a second one coming soon, with the Boxster EV, and this arrives just before the significant update to the Taycan that’s also releasing this year.
Today I’ll be giving you a first look at the first two models, the #Macan Turbo and the Macan 4 entry level car. We’ll check out all the design both outside, and with the stunning new gen interior.
But more importantly, some answers to the important questions: how much of the architecture is shared with taycan, what’s the range like, and how much do these two cars cost?
Having sold almost a million units in its lifetime, Porsche hedging their bets on their top seller doing the same as a BEV car. Pricing, more reasonable than I first expected! Macan 4 stats in the UK at 69k, and the Turbo at 95K. 83k euros or 114 euros.
The car is based on the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with the all new 800-volt architecture, used by Porsche for the first time in the new Macan - and shared with other VAG group companies. Just like the previous Macan then!
Design is striking - It’s longer by 4 inches, slightly wider and around the same height with a Drag coefficient of just .25c. Makes it look wider! Bonnet has a shallow pitch, and heightened shoulders. Really starts to remind you of other super SUVs like the Urus. The huge wheels of 22 inches really help too, with the stance
Front end sees taycan style lights, but there’s a second set under those - think bmw 7 series, or the newer Audi cars. Top lights are your DRLs, and the lights below are your main lamps where matrix lights are an option now too.
Side has a lot of contrast to break up, what is a lot more bulk including the typical Macan side blade - Rear is interesting and better than Taycan I think. Light bar is thick and 3d with the Porsche logo inside. Badges on the turbo are finished in a new colour turbonite grey, as first started by Panamera!
Llike taycan, along with the 540 litres boot we also get a frunk with more storage, with 84 litres, so in total 127 more than the old Macan.
Performance is strong. We have a lithium-ion battery of 100 kWh, of which up to 95 kWh is used. Both cars are Standard all wheel drive, with two PSM electric motors, and the output is:
Macan 4 408PS - 5.1 secs
Range: 613 km/381 miles
Macan Turbo 639PS - 3.3 secs
Range: 591 km/367miles
Impressive vs Taycan, but only a future drive will show how accurate this is!
Charging wise, it can charge up to 270kw, so it can go 10 - 80% in 21 mins. What happens at a 400- volt charging stations? A high-voltage switch in the battery enables bank charging by effectively splitting the 800-volt battery into two batteries, each with a rated voltage of 400 volts - clever!
Steel suspension as standard, and Air suspension as an option - Air comes with PASM with a new two valve damping tech as standard and it can be optioned with the steels. And finally we have rear axle steering of 5 degrees.
So pretty much in line with all recent Porsches, but a good deal more miles than we’ve had in Taycan. The other thing in line with other Porsches is the interior!
The Three screen concept we’ve seeing all new porsches of late. No surprises but a big welcome for Macan customers, and those looking for a higher end experience.
So an attractive addition to the Porsche family, and EV market - comes at an interesting time when interest and values of EVs are plummeting. Looking forward to the drive to see if Porsches new baby has what it takes to reverse the trend!

At that price point (£80k with a few options) you might as well by the brand new cayenne ehybrid which is roughly the same price. The cayenne won’t lose 50% of its value in 2 years either.

@@omnicognatesnr5947 thats been the biggest incentive to get them, you can get a Porsche taycan through salary sacrifice and it will cost you about a grand in tax where as a range rover will set you back 14k in tax, alot of companies are offering them now as salary sacrifice but if your in the private market there is better cars out there for 80k regardless

It is partly the volume but also the sound quality is a bit thin and that is compared to other videos….maybe the microphone is not too well as older RbR videos are much clearer so that eliminates any hearing problems, it must be technical. 🤔

Great review, love the detail that you provide. Lost me as soon as you mentioned the price, especially with Solid State technology not too far away. Can’t see private buyers wanting to risk the depreciation on these. Hope that the range lives up to the promise.

Why is everyone expecting depreciation to be similar to the Tycan? Starting price is lower, it’s a new more advanced platform, has decent performance efficiency, has smart tech, and the Macan is an SUV which has a bigger market. They have listened to market feedback and have clearly nailed attention to detail. Interest rates have had their correction now so you will only get buyers that can afford the rates. If you compare this to Q8, Polestar 3, Eletra, EQS a well specd version of the Macan 4 looks reasonably priced. I can’t see why used pricing fall by much when I look at the facts

I love your videos, but you seriously have got to do something about those audio levels. On mobile (iPhone 15 pro), at max volume I can barely hear you unless it’s quieter than a crypt in my room. Otherwise, phenomenal work as always, my guy!!!

I sure would love a new ICE Macan with this body on top. Isn’t Audi making a new Q5? So weird that Porsche isn’t developing their own version again. All chips on EV is a very bold move.

I am very much hating the trend of a black lip around the wheel arches, it makes it look very Transit Van like. Also it looks very cheap, the old model looked less plastic where as the EV Macan looks like one of those die-cast toy cars put on a plastic base. It's nice to see some physical buttons back in the cabin for the controls we all change way more than anyone thought.

Great looking car, i’m sure it will go as fast as it looks but I’m not sure if going full electric on models is the right way forward personally I think somebody’s fantastic manufacturers like Porsche should go hybrid and not full great video always look forward to next one

Government regulations are pushing manufacturers to go electric. It isn't by choice. Ice cars are getting taxed more and outright bans are coming in many markets. This has been forced upon manufacturers. Blame Greta! Do you think Porsche would rather produce their glorious petrol cars or EVs? They have no choice

Fantastic Car. Will they build a hybrid version if you do not want to go full electric yet. Also maybe make the Nav screen a little bit higher for long drives makes it a little bit easier to watch the screen. Maybe also increase the legroom in the back for long drives.

The definitely screwed up on the price. The base model in Canada is 106k here, and 137k for the Turbo. I was expecting 80k and 100k respectively. A model Y performance is almost half the price of a Macan Turbo here, I know they don't fight in the same league but still....

I agree. Regardless of Tesla comparisons, I would think they’d look at Taycan sales and the direction of the EV market and start off with a more reasonable price tag. I don’t think they are going to sell many at that price.

You know that the new model is „only“ 22% more expensive than the combustion version with 265PS and if you compare it to the S Version which is slightly more performant but closer to the ev Macan than the normal or T version, it’s only a 5% increase. So yeah, it’s expensive, but not shockingly expensive, they could have made a cheaper entry model perhaps.

Thing is, if they offered it as combustion as well it would degrade the EV version quite a lot because of using a shared platform. EV dedicated platform is the way to go and Porsche recognises that, especially with combustion ban approaching they are transitioning their business.

@@ShadowHolder748 well I have to agree on that point. However, other countries doesn’t have the ban and these countries are not EV ready. Lack of infrastructure are the main reasons. Global sales might dipped as the Taycan’s resale value is pretty bad in the asian countries. Just my 2 cents worth.

I got the first-gen combustion Macan turbo which i took delivery of in early 2015. Everything was flawless except one thing…. and it was a fatal flaw as far as I’m concerned - poor lumbar support amplified by a wider back rest than my body frame could handle. The result: i couldn’t drive for four hours straight without experiencing back pains. That absolutely snuffed out any driving pleasure i had from the driving. I kept asking myself why a top-of-the-range Porsche couldn’t offer the option of more snugly sports seats for the front when they would offer paid-for options even for the bolts on the car (ok, hyperbole). I just can’t afford to risk another Macan purchase if i have to sacrifice my back. What a shame

First EV I have went to the configurature at the launch rather than waiting for reviews. I know i cant afford a taycan, whereas I hoped that this would have more as standard as it 2024 but rear wipers, heated steering wheel, memory seats, rear airbags are still things you need to pay for.

Macan EV 4 is the "base" EV Macan model and the Turbo is the top range. There's only 2 variants of it. The 4 and the Turbo.

All luxury EVs depreciate more than luxury conventional. With no regulations on battery efficiency manufacturers are bolting highly inefficient batteries (seeking speed, god knows for what for average driver) with varying degrees of loss over 1-3 years. Wonder why the resale value drops so drastically for EV compared to combustion in the first 1-3 years. 😅

I can’t understand the complains because of the turbo designation. In German turbo is sometimes used as a synonym for fast. More often in older generations tho :D

In some countries like Finland its actually cheaper. 2023 gas macan base costs 103k but macan 4 ev costs 86k

@@fencer1979 Yes its weird for sure. The government is pushing people to buy low co2 emission cars. So a 2024 Macan GTS ice has tax of more than 50k euros. This is the reason why you dont see sports cars on the streets here.

interesting how Porsche is the only manufacturer that is integrating the screens nicely rather than throwing the ipad sticking out of the dash, it's not that hard. BMW & Merc need to learn something here

Not strange at all, all about markets and EV rules. The Macan is their main breadwinner, manufacturers have to sell a % of EVs or else get fined. But it seems like Porsche has used the new Macan to hike prices considerably, 70k for entry level..

Because they know and said that synthetic fuels are not a mainstream solution for new cars. Only for niche segments, racing and existing cars. The investment pales in comparison to the billions that the invest in EV development

They tried to hide the bulk by painting the bottom tray black. Sorry RBR but no amount of lighting trickery can hide that. Get this out in daylight to realize how tall from the bottom of the windows to the bottom of the tray. Seeing pre/production prototypes & now the finished product confirms the visuals. Then they ripped off the C pillar windows flush ala Q8. Nothing wrong with that. The interior is devoid looks like an appliance of personality. Black black & black. Nothing to catch the eye to make it look special. It looks like it has less trunk space than the ICE. Perform a box test to compare. The range is a lie as it is with all EVs, maybe 300 mis/483 kms on a normal sunny day no AC. This looks like it weighs 5000+lbs/2268+kgs. You can’t hide the weight in performance areas like handling or braking. Tire wear? Who exactly would buy this? An urban individual(s) where there is the ability to plug in, most likely this is a second or third vehicle that’s leased. I wouldn’t buy it as by the time the lease is up technology likely will have progressed. So the residuals & resale will suck. People will be beta testers for this. I’m highly skeptical. I’d pick the ICE version over this at this point. We shall see.

The front lip now looks too high! Are Porsche just following the maltrend set by AUDI and BMW? A mistake!! I prefer the old model. The real range is too small for the UK's appalling charger network!

I love how these top brands say car price starts from 95k, I am yet to see a customer who they have allowed to pay that entry price…. Why don’t they just fit the essential extras and call a horse a horse. The world will not be taken over by robots… it’s Marketing jargon that’s ruling already… have to admit that Turbo does look nicer
