The scariest thing about this show is that I was a teen in 1999 meaning I’m old enough to be one of these girls mothers and I’ve never felt my own mortality more keenly than I do right now. 😭

... _WERE_ they *really* all *_that_* actively against it, though?? I mean .. they didn't exactly handle the situation with Tabby's boss as if they were squarely against it. 👀 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ But, also, Ezria was actually the most ironically wholesome couple and a huge fan favorite-right up until the later season retconned a bunch of shite into it that never should have been added just for the drama.

@jaginaiaelectrizs6341
@jaginaiaelectrizs6341 2 жыл бұрын
@Booper Dooper I said _ironically_ wholesome. Her age made it questionable-but their actual relationship with each other was otherwise relatively healthy, if he had been younger OR if she had been a legal adult[ and had not began their relationship /under false pretenses /with a lie]; particularly, compared to many of the other relationships that happened on that tv show. (My words were chosen quite intentionally, although leaving an S off at the end of 'later seasons' was accidental.) The fact that she was above the legal age of consent and was in fact consenting, as well as actively deceived him about her age, might not make a difference to you(and that's fair enough either way)-but it would make a difference legally[ if the case ever were to actually be tried in court], and it makes a difference psychologically or morally-speaking as well. (Statutory Rape is not the same offense as Child Molestation, for a legitimate reason; and a teen might not be an adult yet, but they are also not still a child either. Teens ARE at a completely different stage of overall ability for comprehension and brain/body development than a child is, even though they are not quite on the same level as what a fully-fledged adult is either, and that is relevant and does matter somewhat in general.) It was always complicated and messy and unfortunate, and understandably not for everyone, but it wasn't originally quite so completely and totally creepy. The Ezra/Alison reveal occurred at the beginning of the second half of the 4th season, the reveal that he knew exactly who Aria was even when they first met happened at the very end of the second half of season 4. (The entire tv series was 7 seasons long.) That's a little further than just halfway through the tv series-especially when considering the fact that the PLL tv series always only aired half of a season in one stretch of time, with a minimum of 4 months between when the first half of a season finished airing and when the second half of that season would start. And only the tv show's writers' room knows if the second half of a season was even planned ahead for at the same time as the first half was written or was not even thought up at all until later on; but it is at the very least probably quite unlikely that those twists were already planned way back in the beginning of the tv series, especially since those reveals never even existed at all in the books. If those reveals had never happened in the tv series either, the relationship still would have been questionable and understandably not approved of by everyone, but at least it wouldn't have been completely or totally reprehensible and creepy almost regardless of whether they had even been the same age or not[ like it ended up being after season 4]. (But at least they did actually break up after that[ specifically because of that reason], and did not just immediately get back together again either; because that would have been even worse. But I'm not here arguing over whether they should or shouldn't have continued their relationship after his past involvement with Alison and prior knowledge of Aria's youthful age was revealed at all-I'm just saying, before that information was revealed, their relationship wasn't quite so undebatably despicable[ although individual personal-mileage would of course still vary]. But[, because of that individual personal-mileage], you are absolutely free to disagree.🙂) Ezra gets arrested in book 3, and then released without being convicted of anything, but does lose his job. He moves out of town and is never seen again until Aria contacts him in book 10, but eventually she stops trying to rekindle their relationship together after he has some involvement with some girl other than her. (There were originally only 8 books planned, when the tv series first started-but the popularity of the tv series caused the book series to be extended twice as long than was originally planned.) Which isn't truthfully that much more extreme than what happened in the tv series, at all, really.

I'm glad they didn't have them do it. It's not like A was actually there, actively shocking them or pulling fingernails off their moms or something, if they didn't. Plus, it's nice when characters actually stick to their morals every once in a while-especially after we've already seen them slip and fall before, morally-speaking, and then climb back up again; after a certain point, it just feels undermining to me of any possibility of them actually not just being totally horrible people, despite any claims that they aren't. But it did make it morally incongruous with when they basically intentionally sent A after Chip before, even knowing what had happened to that one jock in the smurf costume. Then again, maybe that's actually what makes it make sense, since they're just constantly in this limbo of being tested to see if they are or aren't "their mothers' daughters" or 'just how far the apples did or didn't really fall from the trees' or whatever the whole entire series. idkk It only seemed pointless to me because it only lasted, like, 5 seconds. And we were rushing to the ending. But the false "falling action"/"resolution" or whatever afterward, before the final 'twist' right before the credits rolled, lasted kind of too long by comparison. I dunno, building things up and then only half-assedly delivering on it or completely deflating it entirely as if it was just red-herring[ but not even done right/well] was kinda this series modus operandi tho, I think. _(Like, there were just a LOTT of things that felt pointless to me , overall. So, by the end, that sort of thing barely even made me blink twice really? 🤷‍♀️ Loll)_

Yeah, the second Amanda said her name, I was like, “say what now? And she teaches the dancers like in Phantom? the original pll is fun because you never see A directly, that way it can be anybody under the hood. that’s why everybody loved the mona reveal. by making A be so physically prominent in shots they lost that mystery element and had to go with the “lost sibling” trope.

I mean.. it's not as if the original didn't also utilize the lost sibling trope, repeatedly.😅😅 ..😶 🤦‍♀️ Lolll (Did everybody love the Mona reveal, though? I can't entirely recall how reception was or not, back when it first happened.) I think the _real_ reason they lost that "mystery" element is because they went slasher/horror genre with it rather than mystery/thriller. Like, it wasn't so much how prominent it was, as I think it was just how they showed us A at all .. basically _before_ they had even been threatened via txt msg at all yet. And the way they showed us what it was all about, _before_ the girls even knew anything, even though it had happened to their mothers and not to them-rather than letting us discover things they did. It kind of answered questions before they were even asked, so-to-speak, which kinda sucked all the suspense out of watching the questions be answered later. But maybe that's just me, quibbling over semantics? idk

The moms truly disturbed me actually, out of all the moms Davie might have changed the most. But Corey was strught up Psyco for what she did to her daughter and they just brushed it off? I mean all of the moms were manipulative and not great parents, Sidney scored some points when she straight up tried to beat Wes up, but none of the moms had redeeming qualities. (For me personally) The mothers were their children's true bullies. I hated Chip from the moment I saw him. Totally knew about the nice guy act when I learned about the SA I thought to myself if they would go there and well they did. And a lot of people don’t get the right paperwork done so this is scarily more common than it should be. I even read about a case where a surrogate mom kept the kid, got taken to court, and ended up winning child support from the biological dad.

I actually surprisingly ended up being entertained by PLL: Original Sin. I honestly liked the new liars characters and their actresses and the concept/storyline of the show. *I will say, I do miss the campiness factor that was more prevalent in the original Pretty Little Liars. (Edit: I have seen a lot of PLL related videos that some people like the campiness factor of the show) *Also, I was glad to see more representation of characters of color and LGBTQ characters compared to the original Pretty Little Liars. *I do agree that the show is trying to redeem different storylines/themes that the original fail to depicted sensitively, so I really appreciate it. *But the ending was a little bit underwhelming for me but overall it was okay. *I do agree there were a couple plot holes/flaws, characters that were underutilized in the story that I wish they could have expanded upon or there were a couple of missed opportunities. And a lot of subplots. It was a entertaining messy tv show. (Also the mom’s sins were brutal.)

The plot became more interesting as it went on and the charachters were quite likeable for the most part. However, i expected it to be more like pll, in a sense where A was actually utilized better. I know its a different show and i try not to compare it to the OG, but i think that there was literally no need for an A in this show. In the OG, A felt more central and very connected, but i wasnt feeling it here at all. The slasher thing was done well though, despite it being a bit cringy. Also the girls being liars were not carried out well imo. The relationships and the A reveal were are also meh. I hope its gets better if it has a second season, it has potential.

I spent half the series trying to figure out where I knew most of these actors from. It always sucks when an actor you love plays a shitty character- Wes is Derek Klena and was in Anastasia on Broadway as Dmitry. The girl who played Karen/Kelly was in Dear Evan Hansen. Mouse’s mom is the voice of Mulan and Jasmine.

Honestly, if they had gone through with the off Karen plot and A was suddenly a good guy accidentally ruining each attempt they would make, it probably would have been a lot more interesting as a play on Pretty Little Liars. Instead we got... whatever this was. As much as I adore Bailee Madison, I can't see her as the charater plot they gave her (her acting was fantastic, it was just the writing.) I mostly remember her from her roles in Snow White (OUAT), the girl version of Max (Wizards of Waverly Place), and Grace (Good Witch) which is my favorite of all of them. This show was.. well a mess.

I read a thriller book when I was a preteen with a similar "sins of the mothers" idea, but the ghost was trying to kill _all_ of the daughters and granddaughters of the girls who bullied her into dying (I think they threw rocks at her while she was escaping up a tree and she fell), so it was like hundreds of women, and she had already killed some of them when the book started and it was done way better. Getting revenge on a kid for their parents' past is a cool thriller concept if the motive actually makes sense and this one...does not

This version of A was kinda weak compared to the previous iteration. Like, he kills people and writes the letter A in capital and in red, which is cool, but where is the element of camp? A in the original was basically a murderous Gossip Girl. She was replacing the girls' cereal with A letters, running them over with cars, and giving them dolls that look like them. Also, I DON'T like that Imogen plans to gives her baby to Predatezra. If they go that route, they BETTER give Ezra the villain arc he deserved to have in season 2.

Sooo… knowing the travesty that was the OG PLL series ending with the random twin reveal, what the absolute HECK were the writers thinking in having the “A” of the first season - the season that sets the shows precedent by the way - be ANOTHER secret twin. One we literally don’t find out about until HALFWAY THROUGH THE LAST EPISODE. No foreshadowing or anything. I refuse to believe the writers actually thought that would be a good idea.

I was actually entertained with the show but I went into it with very very low knowing it was going to be bad and with the cringy dialogue about feminism and other important subject you can tell that the riverdale writer had a hand on it, some of the lines could have come out of Veronica's mouth and I wouldn't be surprised. Also, I don't understand why make a show that criticizes grooming only to give a baby to the biggest groomer in the pll universe, it completely undermines the Tabby/creppy boss storyline.

they needed to just make a new show, because the way they "tied" this show to the original, didn't even fully tie them together. Just have it set somewhere else, and don't have your villain be called 'A', then it's no longer apart of the Pretty Little Liars universe. Honestly the 1 season of 'Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists' is 100 times better than this, because it has the original writers, and some of the old cast just in a new place and story. And out of the 7 seasons of the OG Pretty Little Liars, there was only one time that I correctly guessed the A team members or big A. However with this show, I felt that I immediately knew who the villains were whether it was A, the assaulter, etc.
