Just bought a Co-OP Generation e1.1 from REI around Memorial Day for my spouse. The bike is amazing! She loves it, and it's a really sweet bike for a compact cargo bike. I'm surprised that REI discontinued both Generation models. I wished you would keep them in production since it covers most of our needs for a basic commuter bike and overall a fun ride.

I just test drove this bike at my local REI store. It was a great ride! Brakes were super responsive, suspension made broken sidewalks and uneven dirt roads feel pretty smooth. I did have an issue with ghost pedaling at high speeds: once I hit about 15mph my pedaling didnt really do much. Apparently that is a common issue that was later fixed with more recent 1.1s (upped the front gear from 42 teeth to 52 teeth). I went about 3 miles for my demo ride. All in all I loved the experience.

I've got a Rad City that I bought almost two years ago. I saw one of these in an REI store and I've got to admit it is much more suited to my commute. It's 9 pounds lighter and would take up much less space in my garage. Plus, having physical stores nearby for service is a big plus. I'll look into one of these when it's time to upgrade.

This bike is extremely cool in so many ways, but I test rode it last weekend and the gearing was a deal-breaker for me. The highest gear still isn't high enough to provide any resistance past 15 mph. The bike has a "top speed" of 20 but there's no way you can comfortably maintain 15-20 mph for more than a very short burst, which I think really limits its commuting potential. Everything else about the bike is awesome though...
@jeffmpvd76892 жыл бұрын
Strange, with the seven speeds you would think that would not be a problem.
@amangeorge46632 жыл бұрын
@@jeffmpvd7689 I think it's because 7th gear is a 14T sprocket rather than an 11T or 12T. Maybe something that could be fixed or improved by replacing the cassette aftermarket. Also probably a function of the small wheels. The bike as sold is better suited to climbing a bunch than actually commuting, IMO.
@caseycook80712 жыл бұрын
With a hub motor, it would probably be pretty easy to have a larger front ring installed. Easy fix for the gearing you want!
@SW4Life2022 жыл бұрын
Bingo. I bought mine sight unseen and this is literally my only gripe so far.
@StevenBagley2 жыл бұрын
Looks like it’s just an old school 7speed freewheel. You could replace easily from Amazon for twenty bucks and get whatever gear range you’re after. Different cities need different gearing.

@jeffmpvd76892 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that with small wheels you also get better torque, so better Hill climbing ability. Although this bike only has a 350 watt motor which is on the small side.
@caseycook80712 жыл бұрын
Having small wheels still makes it an overall smaller form factor. Easier to carry up stairs, load in a car, or store in a small apartment and still rides mostly like a normal sized bike. Mini Velos are pretty popular in Japan.

If you don't want to drop a bunch of money on an ebike, try getting the jetson bolt pro. It's the cheapest decent ebike that isn't garbage. You can get it for $300 and there's a ton of support for modifying it because it's easily upgradable. I bought one just to see if I would use it and it's great. It's kind of a gate way ebike because if you like it, eventually you will end up getting something a lot better.

@@KevDoes Kev, most of the comments that I read are full of mad love of your demo review. The target audience appears to be e-bike newbies and most likely have little idea of advanced features. This bike has some great features that would have been nice to call out. -Hydraulic Disc Brakes. Most of the similarly priced competitor bikes has mechanical disk brakes. -Through Axil Hub in the front (I don't know what the rear has). That provides added strength and stability. -Solid Heavy Duty Rear Rack that is part of the frame. That design provides extra frame strength and stability, that an add on rack can't do. This rack is great for hanging panniers AKA saddle bags. BTW that center stand that you did point out, is a super bonus feature when combined with loading that bike when using saddle bags. -Would have been nice to show the handlebar stem articulating for better fit. For your size, I would think adjusting it up higher might be optimal. ...That all being said, you bring great energy that your audience thrives off of.
