Update on Meloni's Fratelli D'Italia with regards to "anti-establishment", "pro-worker" aesthetics: Heavy resistance to demands for a minimum wage. Dismantlement of social safety nets. At local levels, party members are also doing their best to roll-back rights for the lgbtq+ community, but that isn't happening on a national level yet. Climate change denial is surprisingly ramping up this summer. It's almost funny to me, watching a far-right government coming in after decades of neo-liberalism, and finding that everything they planned to do has already been done. It'll probably be the same in France when Macron is done, if the left fails once again. All that's really left for these misanthropes to do, is to ramp up discrimination, because Europe has been handing over the keys to anarcho capitalism for quite some time now.

Just as an example: during all the pandemics the governments supported by Italy's centre-left party said that they would refund national healthcare. But under Draghi's government they clearly said there would be no money for healthcare. Meloni's was the only party not partaking this technocratic orgy. Also, looking at the numbers, this was the political election where less people went to vote: the numbers state clearly that Meloni won because people who previously voted for centre-left parties were too disgusted to go to vote. The horrible electoral law that allowed her to be in the majority was created by the main centre-left party that hoped to push back on the "third party" Movimento 5 Stelle. I despise Meloni, but the centre-left party, PD, brought this disgrace upon itself and all of us.

Extremely scary. However I tend to see this wave of (barely undercover) fascism as weak, lacking the vigor of classical fascism largely because (as the support for Trump in the USA-2016 revealed) relies heavily on the older generation and their distorted nostalgia of "the good old times" (this may be different for southern equivalente phenomena like Bolsonarism, Modi-ism or Islamo-Fascism, sure, I mean in the US Empire, where ageing is a major socio-demographic problem and a main driver of cheap young immigrant exploitation, an issue that the neofascists capitalize on hypocritically). But I may well be wrong after all. What this video suggested to me is that maybe, now like in the 1920s and 30s, fascism may well just be the method by which the Anglosaxon Empire (NATO-plus, now in deep crisis and rather radical reform) chooses to rule Europe or much of it. That is very scary, although I don't think that "forever" is even a word we should use: too pessimistically Orwellian IMO, things do change, especially in times of deep crisis as the ones we're experiencing now. Back to my pre-existing interpretation, IMHO today's "Western" fascism is vigorless and can't really manage Capitalism any better than the authoritarian-liberal version (Ali's "extreme center") that has dominated it in the last several decades. It only exacerbates the social contradictions and can only ultimately produce failed states like Ukraine. They can repress more and more violently and absurdly even (but that's a trend we already see with extreme center governments) but such repression only exacerbates dissafection, it does not solve it in any way. It may briefly rally the "worker aristocracy", while the lack of radicalism and efficiency in the left deactivates the core proletariat (which is generally not attracted to the far right), but, as it can't deliver (no more clolonial plundering, no more eco-devastation are possible), it will soon become weak and produce a collapse of one sort or another, not more stability. The real background problem is not so much that fascism represses socialism/communism (which is of course a big problem) but that revolutionary socialism (or anything of the like) is weak. This is particularly true in the case of Italy, which went from having the strongest communist party of Western Europe to having no left whatsoever. The liberal transformation of the PCI into the PDI (a clone of the US Democratic Party) and the lack of any sort of real resurgence of communism or radical socialism in any way (Rifundazione totally failed and Cinque Stelle is too far towards the "extreme center") is the real problem, much like the betrayals of Syriza in Greece or Podemos in Spain (let alone The Greens in Germany, which is older but still the same) are the real problem. While in Italy the more hardcore socialist movement collapsed long ago, that's less true in core Western Europe however (with contradictions and limitations), particularly in France and Britain. France also has a consolidated neofascist movement, one of the oldests of Europe, but simultaneously has a very strong "far left" (?), from the powerful unions to the Yellow Jackets going through the somewhat interesting rise of La France Insoumisse (arguably another Syriza/Podemos but not in government yet) and some marginated but still influential Trotskyist minor parties. In Britain, the astonishing tide of Corbynism, a current that no doubt Engels would have cheered and participated, was such a real threat to the bourgeois establishment that they had to resort to unleash the Brexit (which is suicidal and only aggravates the crisis of British capitalism) in order to deactivate it by transferring the political debate to a question where Labour, especially Corbynism, had no stand (what directed voters to the bourgeois parties, which generally made a strong issue of the EU question). If you didn't realize (I didn't myself for years), just look at the chronologies of Corbynism and Brexitism: they overlap almost totally. Also worth mentioning are the far left (strongly communist) nascent movements in Spain, most notably the Catalan CUP recently but now rather the Basque Socialist Movement, not anymore tied by mere nationalism (even if still independentist) but focused on building communism across nationalities and thus fueling similar organizations across all Spain and beyond. So there is at least some actual class war (from the prole side), with a very serious potential to destabilize and even run over over the bourgeois regimes, especially in Western Europe. Luckily not all is like Poland or Italy, let alone brain-dead Germany. And I guess that there is some chance that fascism moves west in order to tackle such proletarian rumble by utter violence. There's been already some of that under authoritarian "extreme center" governments but it's unclear how neofascism can "improve" on bourgeois governance, on keeping the "social peace" in the middle of a crisis that has Britons very especially having to choose between "eating or heating", as Waters recently denounced before the UN. In the end Marx and Engels may have been right when they "predicted" that the communist revolutionary outbreak may happen in the key Western European countries such as France or Britain. Soon to tell, sure. Whatever the case, IMO neofascism is rather a shadow of classical fascism and somehow we seem to be quickly running over the early 20th century's cycle in reverse order, i.e. the resurgence of fascism probably anticipates the resurgence of what preceded it: the great revolutionary wave of 1917-21, on whose shoulders we stand one way or another. One thing is very different: today's proletariat is not at all anymore the quasi-peasant one of those days, todays proletariat is a fully formed (educated, connected) class, which (at least in the developed world) has almost totally forgotten its peasant roots and is potentially a true revolutionary subject that can decidedly take over the centers of classical capitalist power if organized (rather collective willpower than mere consciousness is what is needed). I look forward with great hope in spite of all.

Extremely interesting video. It's beyond me that we don't talk about this enough in the media. I also suggest doing a video on the RN (used to be FN) party in France, which was founded post-WW2 by an ex Waffen-SS and a nazi sympathiser, whose daughter leads the party, which was the second most popular party for the french presidential and legislative elections of 2022. Ever since late 2021, she's been sugarcoating and ''De-diabolisating'' the party founded by nazis.

If there’s one thing East Germany/DDR did right, it was the complete denazification of its population. On the contrary, West Germany gave Nazis high ranking positions in corporations, banks, and the government. With the triumph of capitalism in the Cold War, we see nuggets of fascism rising in Germany again.

Excellent videos, even if it frightens me for the future. I'm wondering if you plan on doing something on the French far-right ? As a Frenchman I've seen my country going from "LePen = Far-right fascistic" to "LePen = right" with the intervention of Zemmour (and his polemical views), which permitted the RN (with its false proletarian rethoric) to appear more reasonable.
