I just started my own mobile mechanic business about a month ago, and I can really respect the fact that you know what you know and know what you don't know,, because that is how I am too. It's much more important to know what you're comfortable diving into than to just tell people you can do anything and trying to fake it till you make it because that just doesn't really work in this profession haha. Anyways good luck, it's bold of you to jump into a messed-with 6.0 or a 6.0 at all! With those low miles it'll hopefully be a good runner still but that uneven crank didn;t sound so promising like maybe there's low compression in a cylinder

Sorry for my english. I hope you fix soon I like your job. Grettings from México!!!

I own 2 6.0l and have been through every single short coming personally. First things first on a crank no start is you grab a scan tool and check your ipr and icp pid. You need minimum of 500psi oil pressure in the high pressure oil side before it’ll fire injectors. Usually 6.0’s see between 1-2k psi during cranking. If you don’t have that you have a leak that is typically branch tubes or dummy plugs or the pump is bad. Leaks can also get worse or better as the engine heats up. Next thing, you will have a VERY expensive fix on your hands if fuel pressure is bad. Low fuel pressure will take out injectors. There is a fuel filter on the engine(where you had the leak) and it has a port that you can use to check pressure. The 6.0 wants between 35-75, stock spring in the regulator is usually around 45psi. Your cranking does sound off, like poor compression but it fired on starting fluid so I’d focus oil pressure and fuel. Goodluck!

endoscope = camera on a snake that you can stick in places (like inside a cylinder through a spark/glow plug hole. oscilloscope = a tool for electrical diagnostics for viewing waveforms. If you want to start out cheap, start with a Hantek 6022BL or similar. Youll need a laptop to use it with but you can get going for under 100 bucks. Also, get yourself a Forscan compatible USB OBD2 dongle. They're 20-30 bucks and forscan is free. Forscan is an extremely capable diagnostics tool for fords. Its almost OEM level.

Earnest U really do not need complex tools. Listen for fuel pump running under drivers side. Should run 5-10 seconds to prime (run no crank) if pump is not running check for 12 volts at pump. Also look for broken chafed wiring. If voltage is present U may need new pump. 3 fuel filters are in pump housing housing & engine. Those electric pumps are know to fail & gunk up. You should be able to use a bleed tool to check flow from low pressure pump. U can use laptop & Forscan to read factory codes but may need extended license to do bidirectional control ( like command fuel pump on) Engine must develop good oil pressure before high pressure fuel will come on. U can remove ICP valve & check that screen is not clogged. Remove screen to check if valve is closed or stick open. Take one step at a time, lots of good info out there. Love your attitude & channel...

The 6.0l motor's injectors won't fire until the oil pressure has built up. There is a "push to fit" T fitting under the turbo that connects the oil lines that is prone to separating and making the engine loose oil pressure (ask me how I know). The newer updated T fitting is threaded so it won't come apart like the factory one will. Make sure your engine has oil pressure when cranking to rule out a faulty oil line t fitting.

One thing to look at on scan tool data is the high pressure oil PSI, in order to start the engine you need to build 500psi minimum. The high pressure oil is what actuates the injectors. It's very common for the IPR valve to fail and stick open causing it to not build the high pressure oil.

Bad head gaskets are very common on that 6.0 engine. An easy way to see if the head gaskets are bad is to slowly remove the cap on the antifreeze expansion tank. If the tank is pressurized, the head gaskets are bad. EGR and turbo failures are also common. The parts are wicked expensive.

At my work we had a 2006 F-450 with the same engine. It crapped out at 65,000. It sat for a couple of years and only got started every few weeks just to idle for 5 minutes. I loved driving it because it sounded like a school bus, at 55 miles per hour it felt like 80. It could hold 5000lbs of water and chemical with no problem. It was really hard to find any one to work on it. The few times it went to Firestone it came back either worse or just as bad as it was before. FYI It had a coolant issue that never got fixed or diagnosed correctly. When that thing was running though it was a unstoppabe beast. It not getting driven on a daily basis was kind of the runiation of it. Good luck, hope you find a good diesel mechanic. Maybe set a cut off or limit on how much you want to spend because that thing might start empting your wallet,

If you need some info about how to get this 6.0 started I can help you. 95% of my shops business is 6.0 powerstrokes. From the sound of the video. The engine is cranking pretty slow. Need to have good batteries in it. Needs to see 150+ rpm before it will fire the injectors. Also this injection system is called HEUI injection system. 6.0s need 500psi of High oil pressure to start. If this van has sit awhile. All the oil rails have drained back and will take a little bit to build the 500psi of High oil pressure to start. First thing to do is make sure the batteries have a good charge and is hooked up to a jump box etc. You need to look at a few things with a scan tool. First thing I would do is an injector buzz test. If you don't have a scan tool that will do a buzz test. You can use a cheap elm327 and a app called forscan with an android phone or PC. After you do the buzz test and make sure all injectors buzz. You need to look at a few pids. ICP pressure needs to build up to 500psi for the injectors to fire, FICM voltage needs to be 48 volts and no less then 45 volts, FICM sync needs to show yes while cranking. When you eventually get all of these. The 6.0 will start. If you would like you can send me a message and ill for sure walk you though getting this thing fired up and if you run into any issues after running .

Tips. Check for high pressure oil stats. Should be 700 psi to start of its below 700psi there some orings that wash out pretty low miles for that. If thats good check voltage to your ficm should be at least 48v. Thats where I would start. Ford has updated the stand pipes for the high-pressure oil bet they are a pain to get to in the vans fair warning.

Roadside Rescue: Never hurts to have a few (Harbor Freight) dirt-cheap miniature "wanna be" vice-grips or c-clamps for holding battery cables, etc. in place. A few scraps of thin gauge and thicker gauge wire (with or without alligator clips, paper clips, male/female,butt connectors, etc.) helps getting electrical on the mend for a panacea/get home scenario. Also, don't forget/try to remember the cardinal rule of "KISS" Keep It Simple Stupid.....which applies to automotive diagnosis and most everything else in life. (KISS)Saves lots of (time on your brain) money on tools you'll rarely use....worst case scenario....have to pass that cost onto the customer, and just weigh your service vehicle down in added operating costs over a epic duration.

Roadside Rescue/Ernest: My Pal of many years now has a PWC and Boat-Repair business: He simply won't rent Boats/Water Scooters or do Fiberglass repair without a sizable amount applied to a credit card/full amount in cash in advance. It's the only way you will get paid 100% of the time. Customer signs an agreement form and their Card gets docked immediately; (you run it through 1st or take the cash 1st).... or you simply walk away from a possible headache. Might sound cruel, but their are many people in society that try to avoid paying their bills....yes,this is in regard to an older video you posted about Dead-Beats. Yes,it's true, some "jobs" might be lost by sticking to your guns, but there is comfort knowing you will always be paid.

You need to check the ICP, IPR and FICM while cranking. I would also keep an eye on the STC for when it start leaking as you'll have to remove the HPOP to replace it. Also the 6.0's love to eat head gaskets. The fact that it wont stay running after you get it going with go juice has me leaning more towards the ficm. You can try unplugging the ICP and the PCM will use a default value for that but like I said I don't think that is the issue.

Look up Diesel tech Ron's 6.0 diag. He does a really good job on explaining no start diags for this. If you don't have codes I believe start by unplugging the icp. With it unplugged it will set a preset value for the ecm to base the ipr injection. Look at the pids the ipr percentage should not be at 85% if so that's a sign for a bad icp or hpop leak or bad hpop. If you unplug the icp and still doesn't start you'll have to remove the ipr and get the hose to shoot air into it to see where your leak is. If it doesn't have a leak its a bad hpop. Before thag make sure its getting oil from the low pressure pump. You can verify that by removing your oil filter cap and shutting the drain valve in it and having some one crank it. If it doesn't fill up it means your issue is with the low pressure oil pump. Once again watch diesel tech rons videos and 6.0 doctor for better explanations.

It just displays voltage over time in a graphing format, but at very fast speeds---down into microseconds. I admire your honesty and knowing when you're up against your limits. Time to push it though, and get it done! I have almost zero knowledge of big diesels so I'm not much help. Will be watching these, though! Depending on what your budget is, I like the Snap-on Vantage Pro or Vantage Ultra. They are a two channel scope but they also come with a database of specific component testing methods for lots of vehicles. Complete with harness pinouts, etc. I find the database extremely valuable, especially if you don't have a subscription to Alldata. The down side is they are pricey and can run $1k used on eBay. For just getting into the scope world, the U-Scope is a great starter. It's just single channel and fits in your pocket, but allows you to look at the fast signals.

Starting fluid on a diesel isn’t bad per se, but you should disconnect the glow plug relay first. Glow plugs and starting fluid are a bad combination. Your starting problem could be a number of different things, but i would start with the icp because thats easy. It should be on top of the passenger side valve cover. Unplug it and try starting.

I was grinning when I heard those injector coils buzzing thinking you had a 7.3..... until I saw that 6.0 fuel bowl.
