Just found your channel recently. You are doing such a good job with your mobile mechanic business. That said, your new bus project has me scratching my head. I’m an 73 year old wrench turner and when I was your age I took on a couple of projects I shouldn’t have. After hundreds of dollars and many hours of hard work, I gave up on them. Unreliable, costly to maintain and generally a pain. I admire your enthusiasm, but those old 6.0’s can be a pain in the butt. I cringe to think of you putting your family in that thing and going on a thousand mile trip. Advice not asked for is seldom followed, but that’s my two cents worth. I’ll follow your progress and wish you the best.

@mikescot71874 жыл бұрын
Ernest, you can use an air blower tool with a rubber tip. Instead of removing the ICP sensor. There should be a small round plug you remove with a hex key in the High Pressure Oil Pump Cover(where the IPR Valve screws in to). Remove that plug and blow air. Sounds like its a big leak. So you should not need an expensive scan tool to Close The IPR-completely .-Closes the High Pressure System- exept for the leak. Most likely and Hopefully it's the STC fitting on the pump and you would need an Upgrade Kit From Ford. I would Put Your Original IPR back in by the way, i don't believe it's bad and looks like Original Equipment. I Stongly recomend to Use only Ford parts on these or the International Equivlent. Trust me Dude, i worked at a very busy Ambulance fleet here in NYC, those things were running at Severe Service. Cheap parts fail quickly on these. I dont think the issue is in the high pressure rails, but anything is possible, have seen injectors cause high pressure leaks, could be a faulty rebuilt injector that was previously replaced that blown out Or Branch Tube(I hope Not) at the Worsed case scenario. Also could ne the the high pressure pump, but i doubt it. I haven't seen many new style pumps go bad. **If you can, see in your scan tool's data stream IPR%. If it goes to 75, then large leak is present and the PCM is trying to compensate by ramping up the IPR to seal the system. **Very Important, if you find your self removing the valve covers-the driver side is easy. For the passenger side You Must remove the Driver Side engine mount. Yes the driver side mount, the engine will drop right down enough to clear the body and pass the valve cover up passed the oil rail as well. If not you will bend the valve cover if you Manage to squeeze it out. Good luck.
@mikescot71874 жыл бұрын
Also, not unlikely, you may find loose bolts or loose dummy plug , check valves (from previous repair) if you remove the valve covers, you can still air leak test to pinpoint the issue. And if you find yourself removing the high pressure pump cover(turbo comes out for that). Check those O-rings, the blue and the one undernieth the pump on the engine block. Good luck on your powerstroke journey. PS, just for the heck of it, try to get in there and see if the ICP sensor is fully seated against the rail, it could just be in but not sealing. **Also did you check the oil level?

@@mikescot7187 just curious is blowing smoke through the system instead of air a viable option for a better visual diagnosis? Almost like diagnosing a vacuum leak? I personally have a smoke machine for like a night club setting I use for finding air leaks.

There are quite a few people in the comments pointing out the compression skip sound when you cranked the engine. That is not 100% a compression skip, the 6.0s sound like that when the high pressure oil system isn't primed (and yours isn't). Once you find where you're losing your pressure, that sound might go away. If it doesn't go away after you get it running, then it does have a compression skip and needs major engine work or maybe an entire engine overhaul. If this is the case, and you actually do want to drive that thing all over the country with your family, you are way better off to yank that 6.0 out and put a cummins in it. Kits are available that would make it just about as easy as reinstalling the 6.0 and it would probably cost less than to overhaul the 6.0, leaving you with a much better result as well.

The ICP sensor could be bad, stand pipes or dummy plugs could be leaking, injector oil rail seals could be leaking, you could have a bad FICM even though the injector buzz test sounds okay, the hpop could still fail even for the later 6.0s, also when you were cranking it sounded like a cylinder was low on compression I could be wrong. DieselTechRon has a great video that explains the whole oil rain and pressure system in those 6.0s. He also explains weak points and Diag steps you could take for a no start!! Check him out!

@christopherfarabaugh20344 жыл бұрын
Before you throw one more dollar in parts or more time at this at this I'm suggesting you check you engine oil pressure. Reason being that uneven crank is concerning as these engines can have a cam lifter fail and the roller needles are then sucked up into the low pressure engine oil pump and damaging it. The low pressure system needs to function to fill the reservoir under the oil cooler to supply the high pressure pump. There would have to be a very large leak to build such little pressure on a cold morning when the oil is thick, which I believe is unlikely. The low pressure oil pump is behind the harmonic balancer. There will be a hex plug facing down, remove that which removes the pressure regulator valve and crank it to see if you have oil. Also, your oil pressure gauge should come up after 10-15 seconds of cranking, but it is not a gauge, but only an 8psi switch that moves the gauge to mid range when it closes.
