I liked your comment "read the instructions". I am a member of several drone pages on FB and am just stunned at how many people post bogus info, ask the same stupid questions or just crash because they will not read the instruction manual..... Yes every DJI drone has an instruction manual........ I have been an electro/mechanical tech for over 40 years and over 75% of the issues I have to deal with are folks not reading instructions.. Time to put away my soap box....

Spot on mate. I am an electronics engineer specialising in surgical video. I have endless problems with reps who sell these specialised cameras, because they refuse to read the User Manuals. I have to resort to writing simple step by step guides for these dummies. You would expect surgeons, with their years of studying and supposedly superior intellect to be good with high tech, but unfortunately not. Most all out refuse to read the user manuals, stating that the camera should be smart enough to use without any settings!! Maybe soon with AI, but we're not there yet. Maybe by the time surgical cameras and multicopters have full AI operating systems, then the surgeons will be replaced by intelligent robots..don't laugh its already happening

Great review Steve. I bought a 906 after you reviewed it and then the 906 Pro after you reviewed it. For my money the Pro is fantastic value for money. As an electronics engineer in the medical/surgical visualisation field I am critical of video quality, and even though the Pro has some video instability at times, especially if props are not perfect, running the SD video thru a post recording program such as Shotcut (free) the results are amazing for a budget multicopter.

Great review! Looks like a decent beginner drone. Although I will say I am disappointed with the video outcome of the three-axis gimbal. For a three-axis gimbal, the image stability is only better than none gimbal and there are some obvious jellos. Most of these budget drones are using brushed/coreless motors to drive their gimbal, which won’t be as consistent as the brushless motor powered gimbal. If it is almost identical to the original SG906PRO, then I believe the gimbal movement would also be stepped rather than smooth moving, which can be a problem for video practice. For this instance, I think MJX B20 might be a better option as a beginner aerial video drone. It has the true 4k video, very stable EIS image, and smooth gimbal movement, but unfortunately, it is unfoldable and not portable.

Yes, it will come back if it goes out of range, or low battery, or your controller gets accidentally turned off or dies. Just remember that if you lose connection DO NOT start pressing buttons on your remote because you’ll cancel the return to home.

I have had one for about 2 weeks now and I am getting a lot smoother with mine. Being a military FIXED WING pilot to be honest doesn't help as much as you might think. Perhaps a minor point, but those are not props, they are rotors. Propellers, as the names implies, propel an aircraft. Rotors, on the other hand, control an aircraft.

Yes I agree...the Bugs 20 EIS 4k has more stable video footage which is amazing given it has no gimbal at all, except a tilt function. It's electronic image stabilisation does an excellent job👍

I just received mine. I have to agree about the control sticks. I can't believe the holder isn't threaded so they screw in. I'm also concerned that they might be pretty abrasive on my thumbs. I foresee bandaged thumbs after a day of flying. Other than that, I can't wait to take it out flying tomorrow.

Hi everyone I just got my sg906 max from Melbourne Australia and I love it it does every thing what it says it's been 3 days using it and I got 2 extra batteries been looking at the zino+2 but flying sg906 max it's good enough my mate has dji and he is impressed of the sg906 max looking at the video on the note 4 it looks very pixel but tacking the sd card from the drone and putting it in my Samsung note 10 plus its smooth I give it 👍 😀 happy flying thanks to captain drone 👍

The value is ok I especially for the upgraded video resolution and battery size etc. But I was looking forward to upgrade from the SG906 Pro 2axis (Which is a very nice value drone for 140USD here in Manila). BUT!!!! I didn't see a big difference with the 3 axis gimbal version. My thoughts: If you need a cheap drone that can do most of the things you'd like, buy this one. If you have the previous version with 2 axis, the extra cost to upgrade might not be worth it (depends on pricing in your country) -I'd probably keep my current version and just experiment/mod the hell out of it. Great video as usual! Hope you don't mind if I try and offer some constructive criticism? I'm in search of a decent budget drone and a few things seem to be critical to the video performance: 1. Fisheye. Some of the drones seem to have a lot of fisheye. Lack of this on the SG906 Pro is a big plus for me here. I didn't see anything bad in this video but perhaps a quick fisheye test in the future? 2. Pitch and roll gimbal effectiveness. A quick test involving lateral movement left and right to assess performance of the roll axis. Likewise moving forwards and backwards to assess the pitch axis. 3. Yaw gimbal. This ones a bit of a mystery to me. I'd be initially a bit worried how this would impact panning shots. I would fear a "rubber banding" effect as the gimbal counteracted an intentional yaw movement, followed by a sudden snap to the new center position. However I saw no indication of this in your video, maybe the yaw axis gimbal is disabled with intentional yaw stick inputs? Anyway just my suggestion for some standardized tests for camera stability systems. What do you think? As for the Pro 2, I think it's impressive for the price point. The still images look great. The jello is a bit of a disappointment, have you had any success with post processing to mitigate this? Once again, thank you for your videos.

If you stay in the budget (low cost drone) price range, you'll never be completely happy. The budget drones are for people who want to get into the RC Drone hobby at minimal cost and are willing to accept the lesser performance at the cost savings.

My wife-banker limits my expenses, the price range is fine...No big improvements on this new model, apart new cam, 3 axis gimbal and bigger battery... but more $$ to buy! Is it good to have, versus the 2 axis version? In fact, is it worth the money and perfs?... Last month, I have bought the sg906 pro with 3 x2800mah batteries (that I have modified for quick 3Amps charge). So I wonder if I am missing somethings in buying early, i.e better video, longer flight time, smoother cam height control, etc... This new model pro2 uses also 3400mah batteries but has no better flight time! Surprisingly, it remains close to 16 to 20 minutes! Are they compatible with the sg906 pro? Is the 3axis gimbal better than the 2axis and does that cure the jello? Also what are the sony camera performances? The rest is the same: software functions already in the basic model. As a drone lover, I prefer the manufacturers put much effort in video stabilization to those gimmick, say somehow... 4K cam, 6K cam. As we all know, it is useless for a drone has a 6K cam but can't solve a very basic problem ..poor damping.... It just results in a very clear picture but with jello jello jello and jello video. I am willing to pay a higher cost for their R &D in order to have a "workable camera" instead of a "beautiful spec"..... At least , we can have more choice in the market except just buying dji dji and dji .... I love your review, it is very useful for me to clarify the quality of the drone , thanks so much.

There are several drones that are “xx”, “xx2”, “xxPro”, xxPro-Plus”...you have to assume that the most recent is the best. But in actuality depending on the maker and the drone, you can get incredible quality vs price on earlier models by buying used. Then you can’t overlook the app which sometimes doesn’t change, and the mfr support. I was looking at Yuneec but they get horrible reviews for support, and some drone makers you don’t know if they’ll be in business a year from now. If you can afford it, my one of the top 3 in the $500 range, but if a beginner you can find plenty in the $150 range. My problem is I spend too much time analyzing and then a new drone comes out! :-) I like Mantis Q, Zino, X12, bebop 2. I’m guessing EIS is more important on lower cost than 3 axis gimbals.

I had high hopes for this drone, but frankly I'm a bit disappointed. The picture quality is pretty good, but the video is still a bit shaky. Which means that you'll have to apply image stabilization when editing the footage. With a 3-axis gimbal that should not be necessary. Perhaps the Pro 3 wil feature a more responsive 3-axis gimbal.

Hey Steve O congrats on 150k! You put out good reviews, in a timely manner, quality production and a easy to read love of all things R/C. From what I can tell in one fell swoop this machine has gone from classic fodder to actual decent bang for the buck with the addition of that 3axis gimbal. I heard you mentioning the batteries were different though. So I figured out just that little change means people who bought the first one are kinda pooched. Oh well it’s a pretty good price to begin with but they would have sold a lot more if the batteries crossed over. You could just about buy 3 of these and shoot multiple angles for the price of one mavic mini. But I just don’t know if the footage would be near the same quality.

It keeps getting disconnected from the app in mid flight sometimes, luckily I learned how to connect it back up in the air. I know there is a price difference but if you know you like drones then just get a dji mini 2 or even a mini 1 on sale, there is no comparison between something like that and this thing reviewed here. The dji mini's are fantastic. I have a mini 1 and a mavic air 2 and highly recommend both. Most people who buy a budget drone end up going to a better one anyway.

My SG906Pro has been a lot of fun and it's held up to all my abuse. I've crashed it into the ground from 70ft high, breaking the camera off the gimbal a bit but a little super glue and it's as good as new! Everything still works great and it has a lot of miles on it now. I have 5 batteries so it gets flown a lot. I don't think my neighbors like it that much tho :(

The image quality is fairly garbage, the gimbal kind of sucks, but jesus it's like $150 USD that's insane for what you're getting. Obviously people comparing this drone to something like a DJI aren't making a fair comparison. Personally, I'm happy with my Fimi x8 2020, love these reviews.

Great image review. I was wondering about this Pro 2. There is a good bit of jello and blown-out highlights on you. Good for the price, though. I wonder how the still image quality would be compared to the Mavic Mini. I know the quality is different, but I think the size of the sensor is similar. Which do you think takes better photos? Your editing just gets better and better... very nice cuts and picture-in-picture features and the narration is fun and informative... I don’t even bother looking at other reviewers anymore as I do my drone searches. I currently own just a Tello and have been planning to upgrade, and I think it’s worth it to do the Transport Canada registration to buy drones like this great budget unit. This was flown on a windy day and on a windy day it would do better than the BUGS 20 EIS. The BUGS 20 EIS is designed for days with no wind.

@@gimar6682wj Yes, in the wind a gimbal is always best. But for days with almost no wind, the EIS is very smooth. Also the BUGS and HOLYSTONE HS720E record at a high bit rate and higher FPS for improved video.

Captain drone, which would you say SG906 pro, 3 batt.Or Zino 2, I be very happy with SG906 pro, don't know as I have never flown a Zino 2, so I think best to stick with what u know, I had one of these, £ 30 of a friend, some months ago but left it behind when I left my old flat, maybe I just answered my own question😊Rob ( I never used the app, but will if I get a new one😊)Rob

'Morning Steve I have watched many reviews for Many drones by many reviewers. Of particular interest to me is the SG906 but I am confused by the various models of this craft. I am very new to droning but have flown my Eachine x12 a fair amount and it is still in one piece in spite of the sometimes difficult task of calibrating the compass - especially the vertical (nose up) orientation. The SG906 seems to bear four different models - SG906 Pro, SG906 Pro 2, SG906 Max1 and Max2. When you can spare a few minutes, can you tell me what the differences are and of the four, in your opinion which is the better drone? Image stabilizing? Really like the information, quality and content of your reviews. Keep it up please!

Each version is just newer than the previous and something new has been added to improve the drone, like range, camera gimbal, video resolution, etc.

Nice review as always, i have the beast pro and this seem like a big improvement, camera looks better and flight time should be alot better. Time for my nephew to get a used breast pro😁. I find the beast very fun to fly and a good training drone. I also have a fimi 2020 and a zino2 which i only use in wide open places where i need the range. To just fly around a bit for fun the beast is my go to quad. I always rely on your review for tutorials and tips. Tnx again. Keep flying!

Nice! I bought one a couple of months ago, decent flyer, connected to my sg906pro controller. Gave it to my nephew for his birthday tonget him started on quads. I just found the video a bit shakey due to it not having a 2 axis gimbal and the not sure about the motor longevity because its brushed. But it is a nice flyer.

Thanks for the video Captain D! I bought the 906 Pro as a starter drone after your review of that model. It’s been a great drone for learning the basics of flying. The budget price makes skill development doable without the worry of crashing a $800 or $1500 drone. The video on the 906 Pro II with the 3 axis gimbal still has a lot of shake. Not much of an improvement over the original 906 Pro in my opinion. Looks like the Mavic Air 2 is gonna be my next drone. Have a great day and thanks for all the great content you produce!
