Its great they have done this Phil, and you did a brill job covering it. Cheers Mike. Oh yes them guys running towards you at Birkenhead North, well I know the one on the black coat.

Thanks Mike, glad I went out to see it! Small world, you can't hide anywhere. I was surprised at how many were out to see it and even the local passengers seemed impressed.

Great video and that livery took me back to the days when we had 508s running around my bit of Surrey and south London. Fascinating, too, to see parts of the Merseyrail network - looks in much better shape than the DC London suburban lines.

507001 has always been my favourite train on the entire network, and she really is a beautiful machine even more now. This train absolutely MUST be preserved!! I sincerely hope so! To have provided 46 years of outstanding service, it is an absolute testament to great British built quality and engineering. I honestly cannot see the 777s getting anywhere near 40 years, and I reckon they will be gone within a decade or so. Nothing is built to last now! As other people have said, train journeys now are going to get dull and boring when the last 507 comes off. The 777s have no unique character about them at all, I hate the things to be honest! Whilst I am a Merseyrail trainspotter (only for now) due to me making the most of the 508 and 507s for the time that they have left, this will all definitely end when the last unit is withdrawn! The 777s do nothing for me whatsoever and I am just not remotely bothered about them as an enthusiast! They keep failing as well, and seem pieces of unreliable junk to be honest! I am glad that I drive as I will very soon come mid 2024 , be back to how I was years before and will have no need whatsoever to use the network. Once the character and charm of these iconic units that I have grown up with is lost for the very last ever time, I really don't see the point then in venturing out onto the network.

Yes, let's hope it does get preserved, although not easy with electrics, and where to run them etc. As for the 777s, say no more! I've not met anyone that likes them, or thinks they will last half as long as the 507/8s. Same with most new trains, not made to last,

Wow that livery looks absolutely brilliant, well done Merseyrail. There is a group looking to preserve this unit, I certainly hope they are successful but I do have my doubts due to how unsuccessful EMU preservation has proven to be in the past
@philclarke320311 ай бұрын
Thanks. Yes it looks great. I've heard about the group and hope they succeed, but,as you say not an easy task. It could only be run on the mainline for one thing

Beautiful, although I don't recall the white doors on the originals? (not that it's a big deal or anything)
@philclarke320311 ай бұрын
Definitely. I think it's to do with modern regulations that the doors have to be a different colour, so they are easier recognisable
@jameshardy435411 ай бұрын
If i wernt fore a few differences we could be back in the 80s

The older units (507s/508s) will always stay in my mind as a damned good lot and British made too! Those 777s look the most ugliest units that have ever been put on British metals! A great video, many thanks!
@philclarke320311 ай бұрын
Thanks. Yes, great units, British and made to last! Certainly can't say any of that about the 777s. Progress 🤔🤣🤣

I've had my first ride on the new 777 unit and it was awful. The unit made a horrible beeping sound every time it stopped at a station, and I could have died for lack of oxygen. The air con isn't very good. I was almost gasping for breath because of my heart condition. I was so relieved to ride in a 508 unit on the homeward journey, those older units have windows that open. Somebody must have heard about my complaint, hats off to them for listening, and made sure I had a 508 unit ride for the return journey. Those new 777 units are a death trap, believe me.
@philclarke320311 ай бұрын
I completely agree Kelly! You forgot to mention the uneven floor. Twice I have been on one, and in one part of the train there is a slope on the floor between different levels. Caught me out both times
@jameshardy435411 ай бұрын
Make the most of these units its going to get boring when its just the characterless 777 moder garbage
