Really appreciate the time and thought you put into this video. It’s extremely easy to just compile a short list of your thoughts but you took it to the next level. You can absolutely hear all the NOFX influences in the first half and the Metallica/ Core-esque formulas on the second half. I would’ve loved to hear them cover master of puppets on the hell side personally.

For their last album i think it went out with a bang. I like that it was its own thing rather than a callback to their greatest hits.

In my opinion, i loved the album and also liked your video, new suscriber! P.D: House Of Liars used a Demo from Screaming Bloody Murder on the day 30 from the Studio Update from that álbum

Thanks for subscribing. I don't do a ton of react or reviews really, but I love this band and they've inspired my music which is what this channel mostly focuses on. What was your favorite song from the record? Mine was House of Liars, It's All Me, and Johnny Libertine which, unsurprisingly are the demos from SBM, Chuck, and Underclass Hero respectively haha.

I find it funny how everyone claims that he/she grew up out of those dumb teenage songs and drops million fancy phrases what should be done different cos surely band has to be evolving somehow why?. I heavily disagree with that. There is qiute a few different band options for everyone to choose from. I Love Sum for what they are the music style and energy I dont need every song to have lyrics deeper than mexican soap opera or to be played on 41 different instruments. Heaven side is amazing background flow for everyday work and hell side has some nice pieces too with the exit song being the best. Overall I think it is very solid and enjoyable album.

Totally agree with a lot of your sentiments on this album. Really feels like they had a solid 12/13 track album in line with their last two, but then decided to add a bunch of extras to try and justify it as a "final album". Like, the Hell side was 8 songs, an interlude and a cover, with half the Heaven songs sounding like they should be on the Hell side. Lots of oddities. I mean, Johnny Libertine is literally a scrapped song from 17 years ago on Underclass Hero. Then the other songs are there because I'm just assuming Deryck wanted to get his audition in as the new go-to songwriter for up and coming tiktok punk artists, so he threw those songs in on top of everything else lol It's been interesting to see these "nostalgia" bands make comebacks and how they choose to approach it. Some have adopted the modern MGK style sound, but others are still trying to do something different. Blink made an album that was (in my opinion) a great modernization of their nostalgic sound, and Green Day (for better or worse) are off doing their own thing, essentially divorced from the genre. Now we wait to see who else will come out of the woodwork and make you go, "wait, they're still making music?" Moral is, there are countless new bands around doing interesting evolutions of these old tropey genres, but people would rather click on the names they remember from 25 years ago. I always say it, but I hope people getting back into the genre make their way over to those new bands too. That being said, your songs sound cool, and I'll definitely check them out, and I hope other people who find there way here do as well!
@KennethTakanami2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yeah, I ultimately agree with all your points here too. It's ultimately cool to see this band embark on an exercise as their final ode to pop punk, past and present. It was a great listen and I wasn't trying to shit on them. I love them and I just wanted to give my thoughts coming from a place of honesty. What was your fav song?
@restlessapprentice2 ай бұрын
@@KennethTakanami Oh ya, I've been a fan for a long time (shout out Fat Lip in the OG Guitar Hero), and while I haven't loved any of their albums since SBM, I think this album is fine in total. I'm sure if I give this album a few more spins the songs will grow on me. I am partial to the old school punk Sum stuff, so I enjoyed Johnny Libertine and I Can't Wait, but I do enjoy Waiting On A Twist Of Fate, Future Primitive, Rise Up, House Of Liars, and It's All Me too. The whole album is an interesting blend of all their eras, I just wish it was a little more structured in exploring those ideas.

Look man, I did like the album. These were just my initial thoughts but a lot of it has grown on me and yes, I'm likely more biased towards the heavier music that was always my favorite of their oeuvre. I do appreciate it, that's why I dedicated a 40-minute video to them lol

I'm beginning to imagine that pop punk has a back catalogue of "standards" akin to jazz or blues where people just pluck melodies from.

Those songs you have sounded exactly the same lmao and they sound so generic. Idk why you criticize sum 41😂 this album was all hits, us sum 41 are all here for it. Why should they change, why should they do something different? They could but this album is a call back to all of their album and years. If you wanted something different idk what to tell you🤡
