What I have learned from this new update for tainted apollyon is instead of playing him like a normal Isaac run and just using abyss on trashy items that provide no benefit, you instead are now able to play him like a normal Isaac run and just using abyss on trashy items that provide no benefit. The Apollyons have always felt like the weakest characters to play, even with this neat buff, T. Apollyon still feels... underwhelming, compared to total game changers like many other tainteds. I do like Hutt's suggestion though, instead of having 1 special fly, having all of them get buffed. Sacred Heart abyssing might be pretty good if ALL flies got homing and stuff. If Apollyon's Void is All for One, T. Apollyon's Abyss could be One for All. The gameplan would be really fun if everything you sucked up make your FLIES better than what they would be if you took them

this update doesnt really feel like a buff. if you suck up bad items, like youre supposed to, you get less damage. i guess thats fair, but ed did say that all the item updates were buffs, which this is not.

You could do a pseudo “every item is” where you pick an item with a special locust, replace everything with it, but then just abyss them. That was you get a bunch of the same special fly, so you can better show off what it does.

I'd take a damage dip per locust in exchange for more effects. I like the tier = damage, that's kinda fun, they can keep that. As for Locusts: Minimum: Each item category guarantees a certain locust type (bomb = bomb locust, angel = angel locust etc) Maximum: Transformative items should lead to unique loctusts (brimstone = brim ringed locust, tech 0 chains to nearby fired locusts etc)

Maybe you can do a challenge run with T Apollyon where you start off with the backpack and do like every item is mystery gift. For every item you spawn with mystery gift you have to abyss. That way you kind of work with getting more synergies with the abyss

On the topic of possible ways Apollyon could've worked, hear me out, since he's a damn statue he wouldn't be able to cry, hence he'd need the locusts to attack. So, you gotta balance between getting more locusts or strong items, btw I'd ditch the tier-damage thingy since makes lower quality items less appealing to void, instead be something like tied to Apollyon's damage by a 1.25x or something, to compensate the lack of constant tears ripping through enemies.

I like the item changes in repentance plus, but they’re tiny. The real point of Rep+ was online (which was already possible). You can play with strangers now, but Isaac requires coordination and accountability, which you don’t have online with strangers.

I said it before the update and I'll say it again: Tainted Apollyon should _only_ have flies. No tears. With just the flies alone he's still more powerful than most other characters, and since he still has tears there's never incentive to Abyss anything worth taking. Alternatively, make any tear-related stat ups he gets only give 0.5x their value.

Yeah, I've been kinda disappointed with the new Apollyon. Definitely an improvement and doesn't feel like suffering to sink into anymore but it's still just... Not as much of a character as they should be. The fact that anything but straight health ups have default locusts is a total miss imo.
