I really dislike the look of the old Model Y but the new one looks really good. I'm more interested in range and ride so I went with the Model 3 LRAWD. All wheel drive is very nice in Chicago winters. They duplicated a lot of the Model 3 interior which I love but left the turn signal stock. Hate the turn signal on the wheel. I knowingly sacrificed my bike fitting in the back but I'm still happy with my decision.

When are you gonna trade in that crappie little Porsche for the new Model Y? 😁 .......The new Model 3 beat it's EPA range in Kyle's 70 mph range test by a lot, and with the same battery the old Model 3 had. Everyone was surprised how it's range increased. Why? Well in Kyle's video on the Model Y, he said they've improved not just aerodynamics. but improved gearing from the motors to the drive shaft, with improved lubrication in the gearing too, and improved tires with less rolling resistance, all of which which will improve range enough to beat the EPA rating a lot, like the Model 3 did. Great job Tesla!

Hi Dave, You guys put out some of the best. (If not indeed the best) content on EVs, but..... (You knew there was a "but" comming").... I've seen you and Kyle critisize the charging curve of the Tesla, however let me give you a different perspective. First of all I should say I live in the UK, so distances are much smaller , but I think my points are still valid. I've seen a number of your videos were you "race" EVs over thousands of miles, where range and charging speed are critical to who wins the "race", however, despite the very entertaining and interesting nature of these videos, they are misleading when used to judgr how good EVs are for longer distances. Most people do not "race" their cars over thousands of miles. On the rare occasions they do "road trips" they typically do so with families and absolute time taken to complete the journey is not the main objective. I will speak from my own experience. On a long trip (into mainland europe for example) I want to be able to drive stints of about 3 to 4 hours. In practice, on real roads this means legs of about 200 to 300 miles. Once I can do that, additional range is of very little utility. What matters is the quality (density, reliability, availability) of the charging network. Once I stop to charge, I then typically want to use the toilet, stretch my legs, get a meal, sit down and eat it, then get a coffee to go. This typically takes between 20 and thirty minutes. So, i want my car to be ready for the next leg in about that time. A 10 minute charging session is no good to me. It would mean I would either have to stay with the car while its charging so I can move it when the charging session is over (avoiding idle fees), or interupt my break to move the car after 10 minutes. Even a 3 minute charging session is less convenient, as I'd have to do what I'd do in an ice car, take my break and then refuel as an additional activity. This truth is even more relevant for people traveling with families. Tesla didn't need to make the model Y a better EV - as an EV it meets the vast majority of peoples needs very well. Tesla needed to make the Y a better "premium car" (where it did fall short), and that i believe they've done. I'll be ordering my Model Y refresh (dual motor long range on 19 inch wheels) once the "impatient sucker" version (sorry, I mean launch edition) is replaced by the normal versions. Anyway, that's my thoughts, for what they're worth).

Dave. The people buying Model Y's don't need to meet " sports car specs." I know you know that. Right tool for the right job. Family car, good travel car. I disagree with you and Kyle's "misses" with charging specs. Hello. Best selling car. When traveling, stopping for breaks and charging, finish at the same time for me. It's perfect. By the way, these "misses" you want fixed would add costs to the price. I've also heard your fast charging zeeker battery may not last very long. We'll see. Dave, you'll be getting a Juniper. Macan junk. Junkcan. More squeaks and rattles coming with delayed nacs charging ability. No one would blame you if you got rid of the macan for a Juniper.

Is that refreshed Y really going to be a hit? I think it’s still an open question. The financials are changing because of you know who’s policies, the changes to the car are rather minor (cosmetics, mostly, and a few changes to catch up to competitors like added ventilated seats) and we don’t know how long Tesla will try to milk the ‘LAUNCH’ edition pricing. No wonder the old Y is sticking around. Up here in Canada, I don’t expect to see a refreshed Y at launch anywhere on the streets. $85k + taxes and fees means zero subsidies on the thing, making it compete with luxury EVs and not with the usual suspects it should be up against. 50% over the price of your competitors does that to you. Did I mention that Tesla’s canadian website shows lease pricing for that new Y at over $1500 CDN /mo for 48 months after taxes? Not much confidence in their used values we can guess.
@jtryggvason9 күн бұрын
“You know who” can’t really change Tesla’s financials, just all the other US based companies EV financials (what Elon likely wants). They were on the way to top selling vehicle without tax credits. The price essentially dropped the price of the tax credit the first time it expired. If gas prices are able to magically go down because of an old man yelling at clouds, it’d likely end up being very temporary until most of the US based drilling companies are bankrupt (see 2019 Saudi/Russia oil price war) and then we’re dependent to imported oil.
