I still believe that towing a lighter van that can use a more common in Aus vehicle, that costs half the price of these in up front costs makes more sense to me. But you have been around and you want to tow one of the heaviest vans out there, hope you are very happy and all works well for you.
@suelandolt68406 ай бұрын
Thanks so much, yes absolutely doable with smaller van and less costly set-up. We often chat about the different set ups we have had and loved them all. As long as you are travelling amd out there experiencing this awesome country, then doesn't really matter the set up.
@4x4smile6 ай бұрын
Weight for every van tower is an issue if you go over 20ft and have 3500 limit. Living in a shoe box 19ft van is just such a bad idea when constantly lapping aus. Also having to use scales for every item added to a van gets tired, I am there with a family van. It totally sucks, this way headroom to spare exists. Go over the limit, no insurance and jail if someone dies in an accident. Or buy a US 2500 plus truck and the problem disappears.

Like you to try Billy Goats Bluff track in the Chev like you did with the Cruiser. The Chev will definitely have less 4wd ability. Maybe more sealed roads in the future? That’s ok too.

@@ntknow argh - such a common misconception- these trucks are INSANE off road! Sure you don’t fit down super tight tracks but they do a damn good job of doing what they’re designed to do. We’ve been touring full time for 4 years and spend most of our time off road 🤷🏼♀️

Sensible advice
@AussieDestinationsUnknown6 ай бұрын
Thats not entirely true. We’re building our third Silverado right now. If you take into consideration the weight of what’s going on, it doesn’t matter if you do it before or after. Lift, tyres and suspension is part 1 of the build 👍🏼
@steeevo01366 ай бұрын
@AussieDestinationsUnknown you're both correct. But we all know how plans change, IE : you may decide on a heavier boat and/or motor, and/or fridge(s) etc etc. You can make an initial guess sure, but you risk under gunning it, or overcooking it and suffering an unnecessarily harsher ride. Much better to wait to get a closer fit IMHO. I have a GMC Sierra 2500 HD Denali, same running gear as the Chevies but with the factory offroad suspension pack upgrade, and I don't understand why a vehicle that is designed for heavy hauling way beyond what we are allowed here in the nanny country should even need such expensive suspension upgrades.

Hi Bob and Sue. Congrats on your new machine. A great decision. Martine and I have just upgraded from a 16ft van to a Zone Sojourne and are looking for a suitable 4000kg tow capacity vehicle. My home work on weights is doing my head in. One or the three USA trucks initially appear the way to go with 4500kg tow on the Nb1 car licence rules. But the needle in the haystack is their limited load carry capacity of around 900kg tare weight . But in reality when you add a few of the bare necessities eg bull bar, tow hitch, passengers, full diesel tank, caravan tow ball down load, tools and so on the kgs are gone. Zip left. I don't know how anybody with a canopy or service body gets away with it. I suppose they go down the rabbit hole with an Nb2 rating and all requirements attached. So my thoughts are possibly a lightweight canopy from the NZ manufacturer "ute Master" the Centution and leave loading the ute tray to a minimum. Dust ingress in Ute's is also a big problem. So if I kept loading the ute to a minimum and maxed out the Zones 4000kg ability I could get away with no gvm changes. All suggestions openly taken and again congrats. Cheers Frank.

I was the first in Victoria to get the walkinshaw GCM/GCM upgrade and although it was an utter nightmare getting that done, (pro tip: get your GVM done before installing a long range fuel tank) The ride afterwards is now perfect!!! Far firmer but not rough, I would now describe it as exactly what you would expect in any Australian Ute.
