I just purchased the Volkswagon 2020 Passat after checking out several other sedans. The reasons why I purchased it was the following reasons. I really like the way it looks. The grill, the updated rear, the wonderful comfortable but firm seats that are a good size side to side. The features the car has from Android Play to front end collision. The pickup is good with low end torque that is acceptable for a 4 cylinder car. The steering is not too light or tight. The trunk space and rear seat space is excellent. I like the way the interior looks and the ride is quiet, firm, and just a joy to drive. I have to drive a lot with my job and I know due to the design of the seats, I dont feel fatigued after driving for several hours.

I have one now as a loaner and I agree its a really nice car, especially the roominess and the seats. However I don't agree with the steering, I find it very light and, for lack of a better word, simulated. I don't feel the road at all, which makes it a bit dull to me. Though I suppose most people like it since it is comfortable and effortless.

@@Rabladabad It's definitely more oriented for comfort and long distance. I'll completely agree that the steering has no feel or soul. It's numb. I'm not a fan of the electronic variable assist for the steering. It's grabby at times, especially when I'm making a sharp turn, and at higher speeds it tightens up but not in the way that feels good, more so heavy. The transmission at lower speeds is also a bit jerky, which bugs me a lot. The suspension for me is weird. At times it feels firm, and at other times it's a bit floaty, usually over small humps and dips, and I still feel the pavement of rougher roads. It's certainly softer, but it's a bi-polar soft/firm relationship in my opinion.

@@AMBYT00 I absolutely agree with the transmission, I ended up with a Seat Leon DSG7, I think it's the same gearbox. At low speed the clutch engages and disengages constantly and makes it very jerky when getting out of the garage we're in. Best way to counter it for me is to use manual mode and force it into first gear since otherwise it shifts back and forth between 1st and second I've noticed. It's less jerky that way but still prominent at very low speeds.

Yours probably has the V6 putting out more power and is way more fun to drive. Hands down I would save the several Thousand dollars and purchase the Jetta same engine and 8 speed automatic vs 6 speed automatic. I don't have a clue what Volkswagen was thinking with this car! What's next a 3 Cylinder 75 horsepower 3 speed automatic Atlas?

The ones in Europe I'm not so sure about. The new ones have more features and are nicer than the North American Passats. If you're thinking about the North American version, I'd say yes to an extent. They're much more improved over the B6 Passats in terms of reliability. It also depends on which engine is in it. The 1.8T TSI motor (no longer available in the B8 Passat) is solid. It's usually other stupid things that break or don't work right. The VR6 has its problems, and the 2.5L 5 cylinder is an utter piece of shit. Stay away from that engine. The TDIs are good if you stay on top of them, obviously. The B8 Passat over here in the U.S. has exactly the same underpinnings the same as the B7 (powertain, transmission, suspension, literally the same 9 year old platform) just a new exterior and interior design, and the only engine choice is the 2.0T, which is a bummer, considering the 1.8T worked just fine in the B7 Passat. While similar to the 1.8T in design, I don't trust them only because they're known to have their issues. Yet again, Volkswagen didn't wanna put too much money into the new Passat for America, due to decrease in sales, plus they're more focused on their SUVs and they wanna get into the electric market. Still, I don't get the reason for throwing the 1.8T off the bridge and replacing it with the 2.0T. Granted, more torque, but only 4 more horsepower, and fuel mileage is a few mpg less. If they're gonna put the 2.0T, they should've bumped it up to at least 200hp.

What happened to the Passat is that it lost its balls. The North American B7s are decent. Smooth ride and plenty of space. Even with the 1.8T 4 (Gen 3), it isn't too bad. The 5 cylinder ones are horrible. Total pieces of junk. To me, the VR6 is the engine to have. Power, smoothness and the beautiful sound it makes. Of course, The North American version is for the North American market. But I agree, the Passat isn't what it used to be. When I think of a true Passat, I think of the B5. The fully loaded ones are REALLY nice. Borderline Audi seats in those things and the "wood" trim. I've never driven a B5 but ever since I got my 2015, I've always wanted to, to see how they feel. I agree that a tiny 1.4L engine in a Passat is STUPID. Even though the engine is turbocharged, that still doesn't justify its use in a larger car, especially considering that it's higher stress due to the turbo. The 1.8T 4 is small enough as it is. That's like when Chevrolet puts a 4 cylinder in the Camaro. Big heavy car and they throw a shitty 4 cylinder in it. Makes me wanna vomit.

@@Happy-Me. yeah sure... the automotive manufacturers never thought that some may have the same thinking as you, and that is why they have the biggest share of their income coming from selling parts and not new cars. Read about Volvo who almost went bankrupt because their cars were too reliable, which made their parts distribution to function with a huge loss for many years. The most advantageous right now, considering how these new cars are made is to buy a car with at least 5 years warranty and lease it during the warranty period then sell it. Otherwise, getting a used one will bury you in repair bills if you're not a mechanic or own a car repair business. Used cars. I live in a country where used car imports exceeds by far the sale of new cars and I know very well the risks of buying used vs new. My former car which was used cost me more than a new one.
