Thanks for the closeups on the sprue! This is a nice complement to a couple of boxes of Wargames Atlantic Italians. Lots of loader stuff for the Breda 30, and nice touches like the pinecone gesture, binoculars, and the map-reading arms.

I hope they change the weapons for the Bersaglieri, they were usually armed with the M91 Cavalry Carbine-and dont just reissue this sprue with different heads. The weapons in this kit are ok. The Beretta M38 SMG was virtually non existent in the normal Army units before 1942. It was initially a very limited issue to Police units being deemed unsuitable for regular warfare. I wish there was more ammo boxes for the LMGs. The Number 2 carried the Spare Barrel box and ammocarriers two boxes of ammo on their backs. My main gripe is the two figures with smocks on and they are not camiciotto sahariano which had skirt pockets as well, they look more like the M1940 Anorak/Windcheater which was originally only issued to Bersaglieri and Alpini -although it did see later use by other units. If you want to make a unit in standard uniform these two figures are a bit of a pain. Still Ive 3 boxes on the way Im going to make two historical 1:1 platoons -one Blackshirt in tropical uniform and one Infantry in grigio-verde temperate uniform. This is an olive grey colour definately more green than the blue gray depicted by Warlord on thier figures and this box art. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for sharing the information it was very interesting. I'll probably get a couple more boxes, enough to do an Italian force to go against my Canadians for Sicily. It will feature blackshirts as I'm missing them and coastal defense troops, the grigio-verde sounds a good colour to go for with them.

those four caps are the soft fez hat, the other two are the hard fez hat also Warlord is planning on releasing a second plastic box for Alpini and Bersagileri troops

Cheers :) I think they have done a good job on this box set although people are a bit disappointed that there are no feathered hats.

It certainly seems designed to fit a current gap, but there is another plastic box planned I believe.

It got the Itlian pinecone hand so it's good; althought a bit sad they're lacking feathers- also I think only a single SMG, and 2 LMG per sprue? One pistol as well and the rest are rifles, with one 'carabined' rifle...No support weapon of any kind..perhaps in the next box as you said.

Now you mention it there is no 45mm light mortar on the sprue which is unusual. I think the Solothurn anti tank rifle would have been too big for the sprue and require 2 prone figures. The rest of the weapon load out seems fine for what the sections are allowed to carry in the army rules for both Bolt Action and Chain of Command. In relation to the lack of feathers I guess its one of those "we've only got so much space on the sprue" and this sprue is doing the basic infantry and the black shirts that were missing from the range.

Looking at these i always feel the comparison of the "Hero scale" bodies to the finely molded weapons to be weird. Dont know how it is in real life, never handeled the kit. ^^ But tiny fine weapons and bulky bodies is a weird combination.

I was going to get this plastic set until I realized it didn't come with the Bersaglieri feathers. I was also disappointed with the soft underbelly book as it didn't help the Italian army. Personally I was hoping for new army rules and Bersaglieri rules, as I feel like the Bersaglieri should have additional rules rather than just being veterans. The Bersaglieri were Italys eliet troops and they should get something to represent that rather than just being battle hardened. One of the new USA rules were that troops get an extra inch of movement. I think that would have been a good rule for the Bersaglieri as to represent their famous running march. Oh well maybe the next Italian campaign book coming out next year will help Italy.....

have to go with Wargames Atlantic. enough heads to build the whole box as Bersaglieri, or any other option.

Don’t forget that this is a campaign book and tries to follow the story of the combat and combatants during it. The Italian forces on Sicily and on the mainland were not really interested in fighting on the whole and there were mass surrenders. A lot of Italian was manning road blocks and then surrendering after a short resistance. Major Italian actions were brought to a quick end by Air, Sea and land bombardment. Shortly into the Italian land invasion. Italy changed sides and the defence was left to the Germans. The Bersaglieri were mostly wiped out by the end of the Tunisian campaign and were not a feature of Sicily one, there were still some fighting on the Eastern Front though. In relation to the main Italian army rules they will only change with a new army book, it would nice if the Bersaglieri had the same sort of rule as the Trucott Trot, Although the Trucott trot only applies to one army list in the whole campaign book and not army wide. In the meantime you could use the rules from the Western Desert book if you gaming group agrees.
