ma and my friend talked to Youth of Today after their show in Boston circa 88. Sammy was the same age as us like 14. The had him enrolled in some school for like celebrities and circus people who had to leave for long periods of time. It must have been a lot more exciting than living in the suburbs and getting kicked out skating parking lots. They only played for 20 minutes because they were late but was a really good show.

There's a really sharp and noticeable generational difference-even though it was only a few years-when you watch these NYHC chronicles between your Vinnie Stigmas, John Josephs, Harley Flanagans et. al, and your Cappos, Civs, Porcells etc. Not to take away from what anybody did, their music, art, etc. But it's real noticeable.

You should listen to the latest 'Turned out a Punk' podast where he interiews Walter.. he speaks on that period around 86-87 where the suburban kids like himself and the cappos/civs/porcells etc made their way into the lower east side and were accepted. Before that it was the street kids like Stigma, Harley, Raybeez etc... that was the time of change.

Absolutely spot-on and exactly the conclusion also I came to. It's just like comparing different pairs of boots and actually pointless trying to choose the better one as both have their own flair.

Loving this guy and his bands (especially Youth of Today), but to be honest I think his answers regarding the youth are not well thought. The terms of the game are so different! People playing in a band today have to deal with the massive amount of info and music flowing on the net, getting unnoticed is so easy regardless of how good you are. Hitting the road in a van is much harder. That's because bands try to impress people who pretty much see everything on a screen daily and don't go to shows easily. In contrast of how we used to be "back in the day" : thirsty for everything!
