That frustration, voiced by the young mother with her children on scooters, will continue to build among the local population. The economy is geared towards foreigners, and more specifically, anyone with money. Housing prices are skyrocketing due to the ever increasing number of foreigners buying properties there in the DR. The only place left for Dominicanos to enjoy is the campo. Punta Cana, Samaná, Puerto Plata, Piantini, Naco, and now areas on the Malecón are now well above the reach of most locals. And I am only referring to the "middle-class" Dominicans. This huge disparity will only continue to grow as the country looks towards foreign money and foreigners. What will happen to the local population that has always struggled to keep up. Prices are already too high for me. Glad to see that they are investing in revitalizing areas on the Malecón, but I fear it is too little, too late for most of us.

Great video. Adding a pier with an observation desk or restaurant in El Malecón there would be a nice addition if the sea is shallow enough for 500 or 1000 ft from the coast in that area. A friend commented the same thing last time I was in the D.R. I’m thinking about a pier like in Downtown St Petersburg, Clearwater Beach, and Daytona Beach, Florida.

It appears to be close to the livestock fair, or am I mistaken because I haven't been in the country for about 20 years? However, it does resemble the vicinity of my former neighborhood.

But she is not lieing everything she said is the truth the president is selling alot of areas to foreign investors that bike rental place is not for the dominican people or it would be free but they have to make they investment back its give & take that is business my friend 😊

@PurelyWalking7 ай бұрын
I can understand her point, because the people renting the bikes are a private business, but I agree with you, not everything has to be free. Its a matter of figuring out where the funds of those rental bikes are going
@ssanson7 ай бұрын
@craigkarimalbasri43177 ай бұрын
Do you really want the DR to be the next Puerto Rico??? That seems to be the model they are following. Their lust for dollars is ruining the country for everyone else. You would think that by now, with all that money coming in, they would no longer have apagones...nope.
@neliathen6384 ай бұрын

@@tavroaar8173 it’s very safe here. More safe than my own country. There’s no drugs here or cartel. Years ago it was different but they brought in military personnel and beefed up the police force and now no issues. There’s no bars on any windows here. People leave their motorcycles and scooters outside. No theft whatsoever here. I loved the history of Santo Domingo. Many areas are clean yes but others don’t have anywhere to put their garbage. It would be nice if they had a dumpster on every city block. I will visit again. I love all cultures and people.
