Here In Mexico and enjoying my Mamey Sapote so much! I had several seeds that I grew into trees that were beautiful! I love the glossy leaves and as you pointed out the flowers are stunning! Most of the year I live in a very COLD Oregon... but when I am in Mexico about 4-5 months of the year I totally enjoy this fruit! Thank you for highlighting this amazing fruit!

@@jondoe5536 I just planted my seed in nice potting soil, and in 4 months it was over a foot high... I think it takes 4-5 years to get fruit but I do not know? It was fun growing such a beautiful tree!

After watching this video, I have decided to reserve a Jamaica tree. Might end up replacing my Viejo in the future or see if I can top work one branch and have a cocktail tree. Viejo can make great quality fruit, but it seems that when there is too many, the fruit quality becomes average with hardly any sweetness, then after the initial batch comes off the tree, the quality gradually improves and they become delicious. I am also growing Pantin/Key-West, Pace, Papa, Cepeda Especial, and Vidal Redondo. My Viejo and Key West are large trees, while the rest are very young. Pace being about 6 feet tall (2 years old) and the rest being knee-height 1 gallon trees that I had planted several months ago.

Viejo, isn't even close to this Jamaican variety... I've got a large tree of the Viejo, I'm not going to cut it back to make room for this tree because I have enough room but the good thing about it is the timing of the fruit I think it's the only tree around my last one was off the tree a month or so ago

@@captainramom3367How large is your Viejo, how many good fruits do you get per season and for how many months? I bought one because in Central Florida it gets colder and the Viejo is a bit more cold tolerant plus is a winter fruit
@mayi757
@mayi757 9 ай бұрын
Do you mean the first fruits of the season are less sweet? How many months of good fruits and how many does it give you? I planted one in Central Florida because of its higher cold tolerance and winter fruit. I also have a Green Sapote (but that one has grown very slow)

How's the Viejo compared to Pantin and if you could only plant one which would you choose? (I also have a Pantin in a pot, it grows quick)
@alexirodriguez9121
@alexirodriguez9121 9 ай бұрын
@@mayi757 Yes, the first fruits lacked sweetness. Then they went getting gradually sweeter as the season progressed. My Viejo produced a large crop that ripened from late September till November, then a smaller December to January. There are a few that might ripen in February.

Before telling people to buy such an expensive small plant, I would try to find out if this variety is worth growing. Taste could be great but it could take many years to bear a decent crop or tree gets to decent size but only produces few fruits (like the Oro Negro avocado). People with big properties have the space to experiment but those with smaller urban yards are better off planting proven varieties

yes people always need to be careful with newer varieties that are unknown but this is a tree that's old and Julian and been viewing it for years.

@@FruitfulTrees I understand might be for marketing. Suddenly 'poof' it's ready for sale, but how productive is it? Remember that Butterscotch Sapodilla you made a video about (supposedly the top variety now) and after all the hype, you got a tree but doesn't produce, and it's plenty grown
