Just FYI, horizontal stripes just mean stress in both male and female. Females however show vertical bars which are not present in males. Keep in mind this is for species in the splendens complex. When you go into other complexes, male may have vertical bars too depending on the species.

Hi, Jimmy. I have the smaller 3gallon tank. The pet shop offered to cut a triangle corner off for me using a glass cutter. I didn't think it was a good idea, I just let the electrical line to the internal filter prop up the glass. I have the smallest eheim airpump and dial the power to the lowest setting to power a small sponge filter to augment an internal power filter by Tom's. It's very quiet in my bedroom. I keep cherry shrimps in my tank.

Hoping to get into betta fishkeeping. People always say a 5g is minimum for a beta and bigger than 10g if you want to keep it with other fish. Which is why my jaw dropped watching this video. First of all, the tank and scape looks amazing and very spacious. It seems like there isn't a ton of hiding spots for the fish but everyone's just doing their thing peacefully. how is this even possible? Any tips and tricks for a new keeper who wants to attempt this in a smaller 3 to 5 g tank?

I picked up a bag of that substrate on Chewy. Com while looking for stuff for my dogs. It sounded really good and was very reasonable. It’s been a few months and it’s working very well! i've got an insane colored betta. he's bronzy/gold looking when he's got his side facing you, if it's more head on, he looks more green-blue, and when he's facing more away from you, he looks a lot more rose gold. he is just BEAUTIFUL, he's rooming with 3 green corys. should i try posting a video of him on my channel? never really used it for much of anything than viewing and commenting... XD if enough people ask, i'll do it.

Wow I have the exact same fish in my 20 long. Except for I have a different type of betta. I got the chili restaurants I got the CPDs I got the cherry shrimp got the ammano shrimp. But I also got some endlers and peacock gudgeons.
@annethornton99385 жыл бұрын
You've also got a far better tank size for the number and diversity of fish. 95% of people are going to have trouble keeping anything more than a betta in a tank that small. I'm upgrading all three of our bettas from 2.5 gallon tanks to 2x 5 gallons, and mine is going into a 7.5 gallon. Only then will I have tankmates for them...

It looks to me there is also some Smaragdina in that guy. But here is a question. Many fish are sold as B.Splendens but at what point with all the crossing in other species from the Splendens complex do we actually stop calling it B.Splendens and start calling it something else ?

Wait, so do normal _Betta splendens_ not have scales over their heads? I don't think I've ever noticed that.
@Matthew.E.Kelly.5 жыл бұрын
Only certain breeds get full-mask scaling. As the girl in the video said the alien hybrids are made from cross breeding. The main breeds crossed for the alien hybrids are betta mahachaiensis with betta imbellis (I'm watching at work so I might've missed this detail being shared). For more information on betta hybrids & the rarer wild types, check out Frank's Bettas on Facebook, Instagram, & here on KZbin. Frank Sriboribun posts the most relevant & concise information on betta breeds throughout the east, as well as habitat information & species preservation efforts. He is a conservationist in addition to being a breeder & seller!
