Personally I prefer Spamtons Japanese dialogue because it manages to feel even crazier than in English due to how they play with the different writing systems, and the use of goroawase, and puns. The whole game is localized extremely well

Misspelled words, long unnecessary spacing 2. Use of the english word "death" instead of the copula "です" as a pun, since they're both pronounced the same in Japanese 3. Using numbers to represent syllables, aka goroawase (google for more details) one example being his personal pronoun ﾜﾀ94, pronounced "watakushi", a formal first person pronoun 4. Using the wrong kanji for some words for puns ([W1ld Pr1zes!] is translated to [[業火賞品]] meaning "hellish prizes" which is a pun on 豪華賞品 meaning "extravagent prizes") It also just generally feels more broken / glitchy

I imagine it also has to do with whether the characters have some unique spelling quirks to them. Like how a lot of characters in the Cyber World use some unique internet lingo. I imagine Chapter 4 probably has less weird spelling quirks than Chapter 2-3 might have.

I don't think this is as much a case of Chapter 4 being "simpler" as it is that Chapter 2 was the hardest possible thing to localize, the amount of references and just Spamton in general would make anything feel easier. He’s projecting onto Kris like how a ventriloquist projects his voice to give people the impression that his puppet is talking on its own.

For example, Spamton seems unable to say some things directly, like how hyperlink blocked seems often like a method of censorship sometimes from the 'puppet master' who spamton is 'bound to'. In contrast, Kris can basically say nothing at all from their own will, although sometimes the player will choose for Kris to say things that are actually in their character and sometimes not.

i talked to someone about the spamton jp dialogue a few months back,, i'm definitely not a pro at japanese but these are a few specific things i was able to gather personally - alot of the latin characters are just the english sound of the characters (dieすき for 大好き(daisuki) and alot of the です(desu)'s have the す(su) replaced with just su) - he seems to be switch back and forth between formal and informal speech - theres a lot of intermittent katakana that shouldnt be there (katakana is like... an alternate japanese alphabet used for loan words, onomonopetia, etc.), and some of the katakana is half width, which is more squished, (ｱｲｳｴｵ) and some are full width (アイウエオ), - alotta normal brackets are included in the jp text - theres a lot of space in between letters (even in words). there are also some mispellings in some of the words みな(mi na) instead of みんな(mi n na) and アnた (a n ta) instead of あなた(a na ta) - ワタ９４(wata94) 9 in japanese can be read typically as either kyuu or ku, and 4 is typically read a yon or shi - if you put the ワタ９４together, it can make the sound watakushi. watakushi is just a very formal version of watashi (meaning i/me) - [[BIG SHOT]] is just [[BIG]/[ビッグ] in japanese - this one isn't spamton, though still localization related, in the japanese text queen talks like which is the way you write stuff like notes in html code, just kinda interesting theres probably a WHOLE BUNCH more intracicies to this, but this is just what i've noticed as someone who is Okay at japanese, if anyone has more info or things ive gotten wrong lmk in replies,,

I like the bit about the wait for Chapter 5+ being potentially less than the wait for 3-4. DeltaTraveller has been my favorite out of the fangames, based on sheer scope, and its place in fanon is humorously defined by abducting the characters immediately after Chapter 2, when there's so many mysteries that aren't currently answered by Deltarune proper. But as a fangame with 3 completed "sections". It's fun knowing we're living in a snapshot that will seem arcane when looked back upon. Like our own little "you had to be there".

It means that "El Niña" and "La Niño" would be considered oxymoronic, in a sense. Since it's incorporating two differently gendered words into the same phrase. Conclusion: Elnina and Lanino are trans. If we assume Elnina to be the female one, considering the "nina" part takes up the majority of the name, then perhaps this means she's a trans woman; name starting off with "El" possibly subtly referencing being assigned male at birth (aka "starting of life" basically). & so vice versa with Lanino possibly being a trans man!! I dunno. Its more of a cute little headcanon rather than a full on theory I guess, but hey; alongside multiple non-binary characters (Chara, Frisk, The Dummy from The Ruins, Napstablook, Kris; I'm probably missing at least one NB character honestly lol) But anyway, along with that: Mettaton is already heavily implied to be (at least allegorical to) a trans man, & vice versa for Mad Mew Mew as a trans woman. There's also the lion character from Undertale initially appearing to be male, but then speaking about being inspired by Mettaton to wear a dress; to which this same character then appears as an employee at QC's diner in Deltarune, dressed up as a waitress. Hence, lion lady!! Should be noted that she has mane, which, irl, only male lions have (usually. Lionesses can develop SOME mane due to an overabundance of testosterone, which is more likely if they're intersex - yes that can be a thing for lions - but this is pretty rare anyway), hence implying a DMAB waitress, aka a trans lady waitress!! Sorry for that tangent there, I just love the little details & such about characters in this series. Its so heartwarming to see returning characters from Undertale appear in Hometown together, no matter how small their roles/appearances were in Undertale/are in Deltarune. It's also cool to see how different their Deltarune personalities & such can be from how they appear in Undertale (Aaron being the biggest example of a huge difference probably). Whereas then you have other characters, like Toriel or Asgore, who are basically the same. & then you have Sans, who is exactly the same, lmao. -(Possibly even literally, if that one theory ends up being revealed as canon someday, who knows.)-

I see the JP text using the word "Rainmaker", which is a word that exists in English (which means pretty much the same) but is also tied to one of the biggest figures in Japanese wrestling of the last decade, Kazuchika Okada. And one would say that's very unrelated to the subject matter, until you remember Toby Fox has worked in wrestling and has done a couple works with one Kenny Omega, who has even come out to a Hopes and Dreams/Save The World cover (and also later would come out as Sans, Megalovania and all).

The way they handled Spamton in Japanese is actually really funny. He's written very much like a spam email written by somebody who doesn't know how to speak Japanese very well, sometimes switching between Kanji and Katakana and sometimes just straight up using English characters, particularly to make the sound of the equivelant Japanese character. Instead of です for desu, he'll say でsu. Some of the Japanese text will actually be half width, sometimes he'll switch between formal and informal language as well, and he still does the [[brackets]]. Instead of [[BIG SHOT!]] it's [[BIG]/[ビッグ] (Don't take my word for any of this by the way, it's just what I've heard and it sounds extremely funny, kind of reminds me of Toby's Touhou Project thing)

2:13 Just thought I'd point out that this is basically the first time we've seen "gremlin Kris" (like the goofy side of their personality... you know what I mean) in sprite form. I've seen people try to say that Kris is just an emotionless edgelord because they've grown out of all the silly stuff we are told they used to do, and the silly stuff we do see them do is just because of the player's influence. Toby has finally graced me with something that I can point to and say "No dude, they are just a stupid little goofy guy". 2:52 Also, this one finally 100% confirms that Ralsei can do fire magic just like the Dreemurrs! No, don't even try to tell me that Kris and Susie just lit his fucking hat on fire. Anyway, shippers are now even more terrified as yet another connection is made between the fluffy boy and Kris' brother. Overall this was a really good newsletter, though I think it's hilarious that like 75% of it was just Toby saying to the community "stop going batshit insane and be patient, making games takes time".

You know what other game has an English -> Japanese localization? In Stars and Time. And it had to be pretty good because the character you play makes a lot of puns that would otherwise be lost in translation. There’s even a line where he says “Who are you, if not the funnyjokepun person?” Even the names of enemies are a play on words and pronounciation for different words for “sad.” Such as Dèsespoir is a play on words for despair.

ooh outsourcing QA? makes a lot of sense, it can be challenging to get optimal internal testers and pay them it's easier to make a project and pay for 160h of testing and get all major bugs reported in a way that can be fixed it takes quite a while for a person to go from: oh hey, issue! to oh hey! issue caused by x, at Y, when doing Z, here are logs, videos and after testing a round of feedback from people who's work is playing games i myself have analyzed and broke apart in-game behaviour to pin-point the bug fault
