For the only good Indians, it’s not that there is a twist, what I find is it’s his writing style that is hit or miss. I love it, it has a noticeable dialect to it, but I can understand why it may be hard for others to read.

I'm currently reading Lost Man's Lane! It's set in the author's Indiana hometown (where I've also spent half my life) and is full of 90s nostalgia. For a recommendation, Darcy Coates' From Below. It's unlike her other novels and follows a group diving to a sunken ship to film a documentary, but it also follows a second timeline explaining how the ship sank. Truly the perfect horror for anyone frightened by the depths of the ocean!

Hey Mike. I haven't read that much horror, but I will check and see what a few of those are like. I did want to let you know, that today I started reading while listening to Blackwater, oh my gosh, you were right. It is something. I feel like fantasy just slammed into historical fiction mixed together with the coming of age theme. Also, it's ironic that this story takes place about 2 and a half hours away from Union Town Alabama, where my grandfather and his three brothers are from. Also, it started the Easter before my grandmother was born. I love coming of age stories where science and magic can collide. Thanks for the recommendation.

I listened to Stolen Tongues on audio. The first chapter or prologue (can’t remember which it was) terrified me and I had to listen to it in chunks. The rest wasn’t quite so scary but it was really good! There’s nothing like a horror book on audio, literally someone just telling you a scary story like you’re around a campfire in the woods. The best!

Excellent Selection! I love Michael McDowell and will be reading Blackwater soon. I highly recommend Gone To See The River Man. It has atmosphere in spades and is an amazing story. It is classified as extreme horror, but besides being a disturbing and sometimes uncomfortable read, it is not overly gratuitous when compared with other books from the genre. I have also recently discovered an author by the name of David Sodergren, loved everything I have read by him, especially The Haar and Maggie's Grave. Happy Halloween! 🎃

Also Horrorstore is kinda crazy but good fun from Handrix. From Anya Abhorn I read Seed and it was some good horror similar to head full of ghosts but more sinister and gory and oh the ending! I plan on reading stolen tongues soon so I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it. Great video as always :)

The only good Indians is my favorite book of Jones’. I think you’d like Mongrels though. It’s werewolf coming of age. Fun facts: Jones’ was my dad’s college roommate. I grew up on his stories, just my dad told them and they won’t be written down. He grew up in a town near Midland and went to Texas Tech. His most recent book takes place in a town an hour from Lubbock (Levelland). I haven’t read all his books but he has a tendency to write in small town in west Texas. Give your fellow Texan a chance.

Hey Mike, it's Bran here. Just wanted to recommend you a vampire book series called Department 19 by Will Hill; it's a series I loved as a young teen that made me fall in love with vampires as the vicious and bloodthirsty creatures that they are. Will Hill is a fantastic writer, who establishes cool world building, characters that are worth investing in and the man sure knows how to make you visualise body horror in the most disgusting detail (there's a Van Helsing flashback that is absolutely spine tingling). I hope you enjoy them if you decide to give them a go(same goes for anyone in the comments) Here's the synopsis: Jamie Carpenter's life will never be the same. His father is dead, his mother is missing, and he was just rescued by an enormous man named Frankenstein. Jamie is brought to Department 19, where he is pulled into a secret organization responsible for policing the supernatural, founded more than a century ago by Abraham Van Helsing and the other survivors of Dracula. Aided by Frankenstein's monster, a beautiful vampire girl with her own agenda, and the members of the agency, Jamie must attempt to save his mother from a terrifyingly powerful vampire. Part modern thriller, part classic horror, it's packed with mystery, mayhem, and a level of suspense that makes a Darren Shan novel look like a romantic comedy.

Two notes Mike I’d suggest going to “How to sell a haunted house” by Grady Hendrix over the final girl support group. Mike, I will not stand here anymore and let you s... on Summer of Night. It's a great book and it even has a scary sequel, A Winter Haunting. Where do you think Stranger Things' underground monsters were based on? And also, don't read The Elementals now! It's not the right season! I know it's still around 30ºC in Houston, but the book is set in Alabama, near Gulf Shores, during an unbearable heat wave from which it's impossible for the characters to get any respite.

Currently listening to Stolen Tongues. Haven’t finished yet…so far it’s a decent listen. But man it’s VERY redundant. Prepare for that

If you're looking for female horror authors, you could do worse than look to Scotland's Muriel Gray. The Trickster is excellent and Furnace is a brisk and fun retelling of a classic old story. As for Michael McDowell, don't neglect Cold Moon Over Babylon. Enjoy 😊

5:46 the only thing I’ll saw about the only good Indians is just was meh. I felt like it was overhyped, but who knows. Lol

I read another Ania Ahlborn “The Devil Crept In” That book is MESSED up !!!! Another female horror author I rate is Rachel Harrison, her debut “the Return” still has a scene that lives rent free in my head 4 years after reading it

I love Grady Hendrix except for Final Girls. It was meh to me. His best book though is hands down How To Sell A Haunted House. That is probably going to be my book of the year.

Grady hendrix is great read the whole catalogue and mbfe was definitely the best…. Another newer horror author I like is Paul Tremblay(cabin at the end of the world) and Catriona Ward(last house on needless street)(I think she is British) super great stuff you’ll love but also the best nostalgia book for 80s/90s that isn’t horror but is sci-fi is ready player one

I'm currently reading Ronald Malfi's Small Town Horror. I read Black Mouth, and it felt like another of Stephen King's book, but definitely not like IT . . . in my opinion. And I'm one of the DNF people concerning The Only Good Indians.

I haven’t read a few good Indians but I have read the Indian lake trilogy and I was a teenage slasher. A few good Indians sounds like dream catcher without the $&@! Weasels .
