With her debut album, In Pieces coming out, I felt it was time to address to comparisons between Chloe Bailey and her mentor, Beyonce. Beyonce has mentored Chloe and her sister Halle since 2015 when she signed them to her label, Parkwood Entertainment. When Chloe performed her debut single as a soloist, people started calling her Baby Beyonce, because of their similarities in dance, style, and stage presence. After her debut Motivation, former Fifth Harmony member, Normani was called the next Beyonce also. Normani has also been called the next Janet Jackson and the next Aaliyah. She paid tribute to both artists with her song Wild Side. Though she finds the comparisons, a compliment, she's just eager to show who she is as an artist. Tinashe said the same after being compared to Beyonce. Tinashe has criticized both fans and the industry for putting black female artists in a box- comparing them either to Beyonce or Rihanna. Tinashe said she's also been compared to Jene Aiko, Kehlani, and FKA Twigs. These comparisons are nothing new. Beyonce herself was compared to Tina Turner, Prince, and Janet and Michael Jackson. Even before Tinashe, Chloe, and Normani, Rihanna was said to be the next Beyonce, and the only female entertrainer who could really take her spot. Other current entertainers have been compared to famours predecessors. Miley Cyrus has been called the next Stevie Nicks and Dolly Parton. Harry Styles has been called the next Elton John and the next David Bowie. Nicki Minaj was called the next Lil Kim. Lady Gaga was called the next Madonna.

No one will ever be like Beyoncé, just like no one will ever be like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, MJ, or Madonna. I think this hurts people's careers and there's space for everyone. While I love Rih, putting her in the legends circle and comparing her to Prince is def false. Rih is an icon in her own right, but it takes a level of artistry (impeccable vocal ability, dance, instrumental talents, etc.) to be in that specfic circle and I think Rih understood that. She is a musical icon (comparisons to Madonna/Britney I think is better), but comparing her to Beyoncé now is undermining Bey' talent and impact.

I feel something people always miss about the Beyonce package is her insane vocal capability and upper belting. Most of the girls we been naming over the few years can't even sing above a c5 in full voice. I love them all but Beyonce being able to sing on a world class level and do things like the drunk in love run in Dubai is what adds to her mysticism. People tend to underlook the fact that part of the reason Bey is so world renown is because you can find a Filipino girl, Australian girl, or Brazilian girl who all adore her purely for her vocals and will spend hours belting out the high notes of listen. all the new girls can be there best self but never Beyonce unless they start working on getting their mix voice to a crazy level.

C5 is a very high note like you said it as if that was a low note like B4 when it isn’t… any vocal coach will tell you C5 is a pretty high note. Although no one in the newer generation will ever really top Beyoncé, I believe of all the names you mentioned Chloe really has the star power, budget, and team behind her to become an incredible household name. It's unfortunate that Normani's career has seemingly been slowed down due to her label although I think in some ways she's in it for the long run when it comes to releasing little music at a time. As for Tinashe, she's def not in the mainstream like she used to be, but her albums since 2019 have all been pretty well-received and she has a creative direction that comes unparalleled to anyone else in R&B/Pop at the moment so hopefully she'll rise back to prominence. I wonder why women often get pitted together in music so frequently; it doesn't really seem like men or the industry contribute to it as much anymore or often except for a few instances, but more so fan pages and die-hard fan bases.

There can and hopefully will be another "the great entertainer" in the next generation like Beyonce or mj, but they will not be beyonce because because beyonce isn't like mj. I think this is a thing where artists vs lay people don't understand each other. A gifted mezzo-soprano classically trained with an insane melisma and a head voice able to pierce even some sopranos and able to go as low as men combined with insane energy while dancing as well as a "star aura" that is unique to their stage persona is not coming. Some of you see beyonce or mj or prince and see "dances and sings really good" but the reality is there is so much unique to these individual performers that even if someone MORE talented comes along after all the stars align they will never get a chance to artistically grow and get better if we beat them down with the pressure of being beyonce or mj like we do chloe or normani. Beyonce didn't even start getting these mj comparisons until later in her career. These new artists are getting it on their first solo videos

The music industry is full of celebrities, not many superstars. Beyonce is a superstar. Superstars have three common attributes: Greatness drives them, as well as their refusal to quit, and they won't let anyone or anything stand in their way to accomplish their desired goal. Superstars aren’t afraid to evolve and grow. Many artists today aren’t growing artistically. Beyonce’s talent, showmanship and singing abilities is similar to an athlete who perfected his/her craft. Although Beyonce is still very young, she’s been perfecting her craft since she was a child. Beyonce perfected her craft through artist development. Who is the next Beyonce? No one. There is enough space and room for other artist to achieve greatness.

2:58 Jay-Z and LA Reid were actually putting more money into Teairra Mari at that time. Thinking she was the next big act. Rihanna was the underdog that they didn’t give much attention to. LA Reid was quoted saying: “At the label, we thought Teairra Mari would be the big star,” Reid recounted. “We spent more time on her, did more work on her, paid more attention to her. Rihanna already had a hit with ‘Pon De Replay,’ but we still thought it was the other girl.” But Reid’s attitude shifted quickly thanks to-yes- Beyoncé. “Beyoncé came up to me,” Reid wrote. “‘That Rihanna girl,’ she said, ‘she’s a beast.’” There is no way Beyoncé, at that time in 2005, would’ve known that her comment would make LA Reid completely change trajectory and put more focus on RiRi. Beyoncé was just a fan of what RiRi was bringing to the stage and she gave her honest opinion. Turns out Beyoncé has a good eye for talent…because the rest was histoRIH. 😂

Comparisons aren’t really fair. It subconsciously diminishes a person’s potential even before they truly begin. Most newer artists study the archetypes before them because of admiration and ambition. There is no next Beyoncé because her performing skills and vocal talent are one of a kind. However, an artist that (in my opinion) doesn’t get the respect she deserves is Tinashe. This lady writes all of her songs, knows how to hop from genre to genre amazingly well AND can hold a note live. She may not be the best vocalist out there but her versatility is truly one of a kind. @@angechrisman1694 I love Rihanna, but lets be honest, her first couple of albums were trash and flopped. Everyone was making fun of her vocals, and said she couldn't sing, but that she sounded like a goat. It was Good Girl Gone Bad that caught our attention, and how she switched up her style. Rihanna was compared to Beyonce when she came out because they were trying to model Rihanna's style after Beyonce's. If Tierra had the same support and money from Jay-Z backing her up, she would have been a major success. We have to be honest with ourselves, stars are created and ''they'' tell you who to love. It is not really about talent, as much as it is about image and popularity. It is not like how it use to be where there were many great singers out at once, it wasn't a competition about who is or was the best, everyone got shine and was amazing. It is not like that anymore. The next Beyoncé thing is such a double edged sword argument that nobody wins. On one hand, you’re setting up whoever for failure when they don’t live up to the hype you think they should. On the other, you’re lowkey insinuating that Beyoncé’s time is up and it’s time for a replacement. Chloe’s music isn’t my cup of tea because I feel like she’s punching way down and I know someone, somewhere is sabotaging Normani, but once they both get it together, they’re going to be superstars in their own rights. Then Tinashe is Tinashe. People who don’t pay attention to her are always trying to compare her to someone when she’s actually the blueprint so many girls are not so secretly following. While surprise is a decent record, Beyoncé pretty much unintentionally sabotaged Chloe’s song rollout. Chloe gave her fans the option of choosing her next single release and it was between 3 songs, “surprise, for the night and cheat back”. Chloe did a poll and “for the night” won and it would have been a perfect mid tempo song for the summer. But for whatever reason Chloe revealed that Beyoncé told her to release sunrise instead (a slow R&B record for the summer 😑) which was a horrible decision. And then Beyoncé had the audacity to announce her release for break my soul which completely overshadowed Chloe’s release causing her to flop. There was no promo, radio play or anything during Chloe’s first tracking week of her song release and personality I blame Beyoncé for that.

I see girls who can sing, dance, rap and perform today but for some reason it's still lacking. Beyonce even way back early 2000 always had that different IT level. She is both loveable and hate-able if you're insecure. When she sings, it's very very technically detailed and pitch **always** perfect. When she dances, it's not overdone but not underdone either. She does it just as much as her dancers. In addition, her energy is a perfect blend of feminine and masculine, she stands there and you'd look at her. A class act in person and a beast on stage. Like a switch and it's consistent with no bad records like drug scandal, smoking, or physical fighting. Most importantly, she is known for topping her previous records not in awards or charts, but in artistic sense. You collect all the girls and put them in one stage with Beyonce, she stands out just how she carry herself alone. It wasn't just Matthew's product of pushing her, but it's also her innate desire (since age 7) that catapulted her to where she is today. There is no next Beyonce, but I hope these girls today will create a name of their own brand.

But think about the black “it girls” we’ve had in the past. Aretha, Tina Turner, Donna Summer, Whitney, Janet, Brandy, Aaliyah, Beyoncé, Rihanna, etc. They all were an evolution of each other in some way. Who in this generation is the new “it girl?” It’s Doja Cat. Everything she puts out blows up, no matter the genre. The “it girl” transcends genres. And I love Chloe, Normani, and Tinashe, but neither of them is the new “it girl.” Chloe needs Halle because her music doesn’t hit without Halle. Normani needs a new team, new music, etc. Tinashe’s music isn’t mainstream enough and general listeners won’t gravitate to her because she’s more of a mood. Just my opinion though.

For example, I love nicki Minaj, but as long as she feels like she needs to fight off other rap girlies, she will never truly reach her highest potential, because too much of her time is being spent in beefs and disses instead of the meaningful and relatable rhymes she is more than capable of. I love all three of these women. The only reason they compare or say such about being the new beyonce is because it's more of a star quality, it factor, stage presence thing. It's not a bad thing. Just because beyonce Is the highest standard of a superstar, but there are others who might not be as a big but still influential like when it comes to tinashe or normani. They have hella talent that's why they get compared to beyonce just because of the star quality. But for them two it's more like new and improved mya and ciara.

The beauty of Beyoncé is that she cannot be topped never mind matched. Like so many other legends: Michael, Janet, Mariah, whitney (may she rip).

Beyoncé was once the next Aaliyah so 🤷 I think Normani had the talent & starpower but for whatever reason her career has been halted 😢

I am just ready to see black women in the rock/country scene. It's the same ol boring R&B/pop and we need diversity.

I feel the fastest way to curb talent and kill new legacy is to attribute someone’s craft as a continuation or a borrow off of someone else’s. It’s highly disrespectful because they now are forced into a cube to 1) embody 2) aspire towards someone they are not. The masses seeking the next Beyoncé is counterintuitive to creating room for more and/or other excellent talent to shine through. The limiting belief that nobody can be as, if not more, monumental than Beyoncé is precisely what prevents the possibility of that occurring. Because why not? Why discourage it? It is great credit to be a benchmark, shoutout to Yoncé, I do believe there are great performers we have yet to see, and I’d like a public imaginary that permits for that possibility. It is the destiny of the next generation to surpass the previous and I would love for the spirit of encouragement to thrive for up and coming artists.

Beyoncé is Beyoncé and Rihanna is Rihanna, end of story! I wish people stop pinning women against each other, especially black women!

Anybody in any field of entertainment gets compared, that’s how you differentiate artist. Award shows make them compete. So what’s the difference? Bey think she’s better than all these chicks. If she didn’t she wouldn’t constantly try to be the more superior artist. You think she’d be comfortable seeing another chick as big as her? No way. Rihanna is associate with her, so that alone still is bragging rights for Bey. Anybody else is a threat.

Thanks for another video 🥳. And I just wish people would stop the unwarranted comparisons. Let them stay in their own lane and be their own artist 🤷🏽‍♀️.

I feel like all of today's female pop/r&b artists are newer versions of either Beyonce, Ciara & Rihanna.. for instance Chloe & Halle have that Beyonce energy and vocal style, Normani, Tinashe.. more like Ciara.. and we have a few foreign stars coming up such as Tyla.. I honestly love it.
