I know you already know that, but sometimes worth repeating it lol. Nice to see the tank going in, won't be long before its up and running.

As for your volume wash pipe I think your 2nd idea of running it up the length of the roof and having access to wash down yard with hose or more importantly machinery such as mowers as I find it’s much better to use low pressure and volume to wash equipment throughout the season and then a good jet wash beforer housing. Also connecting your current washing hoses into the new tank/pump system is a great idea

Hasn’t plastic fittings made farm plumbing so easy, I was in charge of all water on a 640,000 acre cattle station in outback Australia, no rivers or standing water on the property, everything was pumped from bores, some as deep as 600 feet, but I loved the poly pipe and joiners, so simple to use

Adrian ive a ibc tank in my attic over the dairy, its half filled from the well and the rest from the plate cooler, it supplies the wash down pump for washing out the parlour and is also very useful for filling the tractor sprayer, it can pump 100 litres a minute roughly, ive also the water from the tank for the first rinsing of the milking machine as the water does be warm after going through the plate cooler.

One word of advice, don’t bother with the different drop points, just plum it up to a lever valve at the back of the parlour and get a length of yellow hose long enough to get you to where you want to go, been there done that and had loads of drops inside and outside of the parlour, lots of maintenance on it and the pipe was never where you needed it so after a while i got a longer hose now the drops are obsolete and still need to be maintained or removed when they fail.

@jcr_jcr Expeirence likewise there are many people not living in Dublin, who would be filled with dread driving through Dublin City Centre, but those who do it on a daily basis do so without thinking about it. I have said many times the driving test should be a multi part test, a section of motorway requiring a slip road to enter and exit, a part driving in the dark where dipped lights, and where main beam are required, andva section of rural back roads, I think it would improve safety.

I would never have thought one needs a water tank in Ireland. I am familiar with the green Jojo tanks used by most home owners in South Africa to deal with water shortages - either caused by poor weather, or poor (government influenced) water management (no electric power for pump stations!) Your new tank is a beauty!
@bryanstanley27355 ай бұрын
A similar set up to you here Adrian, ten units, I have a quick attach at the head or the pit with hose attached then I a quick attach on the wall between the dairy and parlour with a hose hung on an old wheel rim and then a third quick attach at the very end of the parlour for when the need arises to wash further down the yard... Works well for me... Keep up the great work, always enjoy your videos.. ,👍

Wishing your father well. Definitely pressure those existing drop hoses. And I like your thinking of two quick connects in the parlour. Keep them low down so that when it comes time for draining on a freezing night, the lines empty completely. I'd even put a tap on the pipe as it comes out the pump for that purpose.

I'd advise putting in a float switch in the big tank to shut off the pump if the water tank runs low so it doesn't run dry and damage the pump. Some day in summer the well will trip and there will be no water going into the tank. Definitely run the hose to the back anyway so you can go out to the yard. Make the hoses a little longer than you need so when the bust in the future and you have to cut them they won't be too short.

Great video and great to see an Irish Company producing such a good product. No doubt ramp or Irish equivalent would like to sponsor a hoozeetc video Volume washers are great, very common on dairy farms in the UK. Regardless of what you do, you can always change it as none of the items are set under concrete. Some ideas. Have two wash hooze in the parlour, one at the top. Put one on one side of the pit and the other on the other side of the pit, so that they are not in the way of your feet when milking. Your pit is very narrow, with lots of gubbins hanging in the middle so easy for the hooze to get in the way and become very annoying. Instal hooks at the halfway point of the hooze as you will have to double up the hooze so that the hooze end is beside the hooze tap. You need to have the hooze noodle in your hand when yiu turn off the tap or else the hooze will fly around like a lunatic. Instal two hoozes in your dairy, so you can reach all areas in the dairy without having to drag a long hooze. Create a wash down area in the yard for washing your cattle trailer etc. after use with a volume hoose . Attack your system to your plate cooler. Our cows lov slightly warmer water from the plate cooler. You might not be allowed feed harvested water to your cows. That said you could instal a purification system with a chlorine applicator.
@IFarmWeFarm5 ай бұрын
Would definitely like to hook a plate cooler return to it in the future and a treatment facility to be able to use it as drinking water for the cattle. We can’t use chlorine here as most of our milk goes to a baby power factory which would be very strict on that. Even our main public water schemes chlorine PPB ( PARTS PER BILLION ) count is to high which mean we have to dump the first bucket of milk at each milking as the water residue in the pipes causes issues. I like your ideas 💡 Thanks for taking the time to share 👍

You might have it done already but I would connect the small hoses to the wash down pump and I would add 3 large wash down points inside the parlour the top and outside the back and have them on a reel so it is neat and tidy
@darrenjackson64085 ай бұрын
Great Video Adrian as usual. It could be beneficial when you are doing the piping to put in a supply pipe that you can connect to the power hose for when that needs. It would also allow for an alternative pump if the main pump failed or if the power went out

I put in 10000 litre water tank few years ago to feed drinkers in the shed and higher pressure wash down line through the shed. All off one pump with quick release connections and 2 hoses. Very handy for trailer wash down and rinsing the shed as cattle leave pens in spring. Not dairy farming.

Hope your dad makes a speedy recovery. Nice, neat job on the plumbing around the water tank and the rain gutters. It looked like you were using some dish detergent lube on the pipes. That would lead me to thing they were not glued together. I guess they are much different that the PVC plumbing that I'm used to in the States. Not really qualified to give advice on the pump or water in the milking parlor but fixing that low pressure issue would seem to be a priority.

Adrian, I’d think a volume wash direct from the new tank would be the answer. Put a tap on each end of the parlour with a hose long enough to reach from one tap down the length. Then you’d have a hose to wash the yard with by hooking to the far end tap. If you wanted pressure you could install a small tank and pump to tie in with your existing hoses. That’s how I’m envisioning our new parlour.

Put a tee into the current line in the parlour, with two valves on each in comer before the tee, so you can shut off mains and run tank water and then vice versa using the current hose setup. Then Add a dropper at the far end with a connection for another hose. Keep that at the big bore to give volume wash for the yard and washing down either side
