A lot of the problem with mobile game stories can be sum up to these 2 points: 1. The basic premise is always extremely safe and samey. 2. The story is written in such a way so that it will never have an ending. I've played over a dozen of mobile games, and their story always follow those 2 rules. ALWAYS

I admittedly have no real insight into the business side of anime or how the industry functions nowadays, but it seems insane. I just kinda wish they could move in a "less is more" direction, like quality over quantity. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of great anime being made every season, but there's just SO MUCH anime being cranked out. It's like the entire industry is just scrambling to throw anything and everything at the wall and hoping something will stick. So many great shows that don't catch on immediately are cast aside after 12 episodes when they could grow a fan base more gradually over several seasons. Buuuut... I'm not the one paying the bills (although I do try to financially support the industry as much as possible) so I can't complain... (I'm also nowhere near the target demographic of most anime and I admittedly like "boring" shows, so there's that...)

I can see where you’re coming from. Right now anime studios are so desperate they’re just taking a fistful of darts and throwing them all at the board at once, and a majority of them fall off the board, only a couple stick, and the closest they got to the bullseye was 3 or 4 rings away.

Miki's Stopwatch It depends on what it is you're looking for. It's not a great show by any means if you're looking for constant action, or super complicated storylines. The show's strength lies in two things: The way the characters interact and play off each other. The aesthetic. My biggest issue with this show is that it did not get enough time to deliver a satisfying storyline with the world it created. In other words, this is a show that NEEDS a second season to be truly compelling.

Anime has gotten very lifeless lately. I started playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on the Switch and I was astounded on how the adventure and characters reminded me of the days of great animes. How the hell did this game bring back what I missed so much of? I want likable characters that I want to help and find happiness, not lifeless husk that only exist to fill in a void that can never be filled. I don't want an all girl cast that tries to push in secret yuri subtext or STRAIGHT up Yuri in my face. I don't want stories that constantly rehash the same idea without trying anything new to put a spin on it. I don't want so many shows of the same god damn nature plaguing the industry in bulk every god damn season! TAKE MORE RISKS AND PUT LIFE IN YOUR WORK!

I think the situation you've laid out has the potential to help the industry on the whole, or at least to give studios more leverage. There is only so much developed talent that can be put to use in animation studios. Another source of people wanting anime adaptations made increases the demand for this limited pool of talent. These people can only make so much anime, though, which will lead to an increased price to hire people capable of making these adaptations. I use price abstractly here. It could mean a few things depending on how studios play their hand. Maybe they just get paid more. maybe they bargain for more creative input. maybe they have no idea how to negotiate, and nothing changes, but at the least, there's some potential here for good things, and few new problems. TL;DR: I'm pretty sure that more demand for the workers in animations studios can only be good for the studios.

I can't really see this as sustainable, mobile games are by and large re-skined copies of each other, which will only become more apparent if the trend picks up, which won't give consumers an incentive to actually go and download the games funding the Anime.

I like when anime have deep base content. Light novels can fit a lot of text and details but I feel like games are much better at containing lore as a scribble of text on a passing level can contain a ton of lore, but mobile games are usually less rich in lore and harder to sort through when an update is able to completely remove characters.

hmmmm. well.. i really don't trust this at all. I'm in the female audience anyways and cute girls have never been a thing to draw me to a series on their own thus I might be biased on this but... using mobile games as source for anime sounds like a terrible idea that'll probably end up producing an even bigger plethora of useless trash than the light novel trend :/ style and soulless moe without plot can never get very far really...
@silvermangawolfygirl7 жыл бұрын
ThePedanticRomantic (oh wow thanks for the reply man! :D ) Well I don't doubt that. Fanservice for dudes is still more difficult to not come across even in more mainstream titles, but the problem with this type of pandering, even if you do switch the demographic for it, is still the same. You might get some awesome stories but I am very certain it'll be very few and this source material will provide an even bigger excuse to have less effort put into the anime projects. After all, mobile games biggest appeal is being a polished time waster for relaxation, which brings it to the opposite spectrum of compelling and interesting stories. My fear is the possibility of this leading to the anime industry deteriorating in quality even faster and further :/ IDK I hope I'm wrong
@Unf0rget7 жыл бұрын
Id recommend giving the rage of bahamut anime a spin. Cygame's granblue fantasy is also a pretty enjoyable and generous gacha game if that's your thing. Tons of limited time cross over events with other anime. They did card captor sakura back in october. Attack on titan next week. The stories arent amazing but its acceptably fun and has a strong art style which is how I found it. Very colorful and nice. A really extensive sound track for a phone game too, every major boss has their own theme and there are dozens of them. Loads of free stuff, most of the game cant be circumvented with cash etc. Im really plugging it hard but as a stingy grind gamer Ive found it pretty amazing compared to other gacha games like FE heroes. They're my personal pick for most likely to do more worthwhile anime with all of their gacha money.

Cygames is the creator of the one gacha game I enjoy. Which is granblue. Been playing it for half a year. Its got gacha, a whole lot of it, and the potential to spend money is huge. Found it through the rage of bahamut anime and its kinda nice to see a game thats gacha but so surprisingly generous. They still make fat stacks off of that gacha but also have a whole game to play where the gacha isnt really a big deal. The amount of free stuff and draws you get is pretty solid and they have so many events and cross overs its kind of surprising. AoT cross over next week. Top it off with them spending that cash making awesome anime and Im pretty impressed. Beats the heck out of any other gacha Ive tried, like FE heroes. So props to cygames for doing something productive with all of that gambling money.

I can see a lot of potential for "adapting" mobile games. Because a lot of such games have so little plot to begin with, it's essentially a revival of original works. The constraints on a mobile game adaptation could be as loose as the "elevator speech" laying out an original concept. "Here are your main characters. This one's got blue hair, this one's got red, this one uses a sword. They fight demons 'n' shit. Make an anime around that."

The fact that there are very few anime studios that actually have complete creative control of their products is revelatory to me... But then is it that different in the US? I suppose the difference is that funding usually comes from one source, usually a TV network, rather than lots of little sources who all want their own say.
@xoqvuz6 жыл бұрын
Princess Principal is a bit different, it's an original anime with a game as a side project. Every original anime has another medium tied to it, which may be released up to shortly before to increase marketing. Usually the side medium is manga (like with DarliFra), but PriPri had a game. & every anime is guaranteed an OST as a side medium. Then there are mixed media projects like Endride, basically multimedia tie-ins from an original story. Original anime & mixed media projects tend to have more flexible stories, since the stories are original, unlike these mobile game adaptations where the studios pander to fans with the characters. Obsessively trying to pander to fans is the problem.

Touken Ranbu suffers from the same problem as a lot of Ufotable stuff; style before substance. That being said, it scratched my itch for gorgeous rain, water, smoke, fire and lighting effects last season. Some of the battle scenes were nicely animated, and as always their effects work was very strong. If all a person wants at that moment is a pretty-looking show to ooh and aah at, and also yell "just bang already" at the 'characters' (I hesitate to use that word for these bland dullards) it can be worth checking out. Story and characters get a 3/10 at most, effects animation is a straight 10/10.

Funnily enough, I am unfamiliar with Touken Ranbu, but enjoyed Hanamaru a lot and got what Touken Ranbu is all about without research. I think Hanamaru did a decent job in establishing and fleshing out this *massive* cast as well as they could. The ufotable one was not engaging enough to keep me going, and the action direction was awful, so I passed. Also Hanamaru was suessful enough to get a second season, which I look forward to. Good video. I did realize there was an odd huge amount of mobile adaptations (and fetish porn/short but whatevz) but now i can also see the reason why that is the case.
