The issue with the "next BTS" for me is that it's simultaneously so deluded and so ungrateful. Like BTS is 10 years into their career and has been on Billboard charts since 2015. They've been a mainstay in the American industry since 2017. No one else has even met the achievements of 2017 BTS. And they have no interest in actually trying to be organic artists. They just want to show up, do a dance, and get a Grammy nomination. Like BTS worked for years and years at honing they're craft, taking steps little-by-little, growing their fandom and learning how to stay true to their art while also navigating greater fame. And for all of these other groups (and their companies and fans) to think they can take shortcuts with media play and streaming farms and bought appearances/trophies and earn the title of "the next BTS" is so incredibly offensive and obnoxious. Especially given the lack of gratitude from fans, companies, Korea, and yes, the groups themselves, for BTS even creating the opportunities for kpop acts to have those bigger stages and audiences. Like if one group tweeted "Congrats on the Grammy nomination!" that would go such a long way. Just simple acknowledgement of what they've done for the industry. But everyone wants to belittle what they've done by either going "look--we've done it too!" (despite the alleged achievements being obtained through questionable methods or not actually being similar to BTS' at all) or by going "[x-group] paved their OWN way" as if BTS isn't the ONLY REASON the western industry is giving those groups any opportunities at all. Ugh. It's just all so gross to me. Like groups like BTS don't come around all the time. There is no 4th Gen version. There is no western version. It's like not every pop singer is going to be Beyonce. So instead of trying to constantly compare yourself to Beyonce or trying to replace her or trying to get your name mentioned in the same sentence as hers, maybe be okay with being a Camilla Cabello or Meghan Trainor or Cardi B. They're all doing just fine.

I agree with the ungratefulness. Instead of sitting back & relaxing, enjoying what BTS has been accomplishing, other people are wondering who might next be able to reach those similar achievements. There is one big reason for this & that is MONEY. This "finding the next" is really all about money. The bottomline IS the bottomline. They envy how much money (& the huge amount of fans & awards, of course) that BTS is garnering & accumulating. "Hey, we should form the next big thing so that we can also hopefully rake in that same huge amount of dough." I don't know if I could say that "greed" of money is part of that factor, but I'm sure it's a factor. Everyone does it, it's just business. If one car manufacturer makes an SUV & it gets lots of sales & popularity, other brands will start making SUV's. The proof is in the pudding, as there are now millions of different brand/model SUV's on streets & highways. The problem with BTS is that, as alluded to in the documentary, their level of achievements is harder to match than another car manufacturer able to design their own SUV. I am sure that when the Beatles came to rise in the mid 1960's, there were probably people wondering who the next Beatles might be. People compared the Rolling Stones to them, who came just a little after the Beatles rise. But I think the Stones achievements were not as huge as the Beatles. I am sure the Beatles, when they were still formed, had more fans & also more album sales. The difference though is that the Stones physically survived the Beatles & is why the Stones were still around as a group in their 70's (age), when the Beatles disbanded by the early 1970's & half the members died since. Also, there was nothing wrong when people compared BTS to the Beatles, after BTS became hugely popular. It's logical, common sense. I too made that comparison because I am a Beatles fan since as a little kid. As was said in the reaction above, people compared them because there was no one else to compare them to because of the same tangential rise of the Beatles. Uncontrollable nervous screaming, fainting, crying, whimpering wide-eyed girls. As an outsider to BTS at the start, I saw that in both fandoms. Also, the global popularity, the album sales, the awards, etc. Even the hair cuts. What the mop-top was to the Beatles is the Asian bowl cut to BTS. They are practically the same hair cut. Look at old photos of the Beatles haircuts when they were still sporting suits & ties. And some of the older generation did not like the Beatles too, calling them beatniks & that rock music was raucous, just as it was being called during Elvis Presley's time before that. Anyway, I'm starting to ramble, hehe. I enjoy the Beatles & I enjoy BTS, I'm not out there as a music fan wondering who might be the next whatever with the same level of popularity. Well, I do sometimes think that, & I think the next whatever artist is going to happen, but it will come as a surprise, as it always will. The span of 55-60 years happened between Beatles & BTS. Something big should happen again either in the same amount of time, or less, or more, we don't know. I think BTS was destined too & they were destined to be compared to the Beatles, because as I said, it was common sense. No other bands have achieved that little detail of "3 number 1 albums in under a year" as happened to both of them. No other bands within that 6-decade stretch had that same record. So, they were destined to be compared. To prove that, I made the following wordplay a few years ago & you will see how eerie it looks... Beatles + BTS = B e a T l e S (see how all the letters match, as well as the symmetry). We all hope BTS will return from service, all intact. And if they do, they might be the first & only music band that is both fictionally & non-fictionally military. And they will now be part of 2 armies. And handle real army bombs, guns & bulletproof vests. One of them might even practice as a real scout (recon). You never know.

I respect your opinion and I agree that BTS cannot be copied, but I have to disagree some of your other points, sorry. There are many extremely talented and unique Kpop groups out there with very diverse music and different genres, meaningful and relatable lyrics and a great stage presence and live performances as well and each of them trained very hard for many years to get where they are now and that have definitely paved their own way, but I won't deny that BTS are great artists at all. For meaningfull lyrics and beautiful story lines for example there's TXT (Tomorrow x Together). They have not only really talented members and diverse music, but also meaningful lyrics and beautiful story lines in my opinion such as with songs like 0x1=Lovsesong, Loser = Lover, Run Away, Frost, Can't You See Me?, Opening Sequence, Farewell Neverland, Puma, We Lost the Summer, Nap of a Star, Our Summer, Eternally, and many more. There's also Ateez, Oneus, Seventeen, Stray Kids, WayV (Chinese subunit of NCT) and the B-Sides for Monsta X, NCT 127, NCT Dream, EXO and Got7 to name a few. In terms of vocalists there's EXO, Shinee, BTOB, Seventeen, NCT, Ateez and Oneus and for rap Monsta X, Stray Kids, Big Bang, Ateez and NCT. As for groups and idols that write and produce their own music, there's Stray Kids for example who is entirely self produced in terms of music, lyrics and concepts as well as having chosen the members, name and logo with the songs being written by their 3Racha subunit that consists of Bangchan, Changbin and Han. Monsta X has Jooheon, I.M and Hyungwon write lyrics and produce songs and choosing concepts and themes. Soyeon from (G)I-DLE also writes and produces their music and chooses their concepts as well. The same goes for Seventeen where Woozi, S.Coups, Hoshi, Vernon, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Bumzu and several others write and produce their music. Then there's several other Kpop artists that write their own lines and solo music and concepts as well, such as EXO. TXT also has very meaningful lyrics and stories that a lot of people can relate and connect to, including the members and they too write lyrics and verses and are involved in the production. I wouldn't say that Kpop is only an industry and not about the music or artistry at all. Every single artist and group worked extremely hard for years to get where they are now and did it on their own. I'm not going to force you to listen to other groups, but please don't treat Kpop as a genre like it is something to look down on and like it doesn't have talented, diverse and unique artists, because it does and many of them got where they are now because of years of hard work and dedication.

40:36 you have a good point if a company has the resources to support their groups they should, but there is a point where one can go overboard. What’s the point of using all those resources only for the group to fail bc at the end of the day, you didn’t manage to create any real lasting interest in the group. One example of good promotion is new jeans I think. They are definitely promoted well, but they are managing to succeed by providing something new and unique to what everyone else is releasing in kpop. They are standing out in a very good way. And the members have also revealed their own involvement in their music and some even already have credits. Letting an artist grow by not only promoting them well and giving them resources but by also encouraging their creativity and active involvement in their music is a lot better then investing in inauthentic music that the members themselves don’t even connect with. The audience can always tell an artist who is truly connected to their music from someone who is not and I think that’s what makes new jeans different to a lot of groups

The problem that I see with the SuperM and Simon Cowell's attempt to make the "next BTS" is that they want to take the shortcut to the top. These companies want to create a group and then catapult them to the top of charts and win awards in a very short period of time. BTS spent years perfecting their craft and building a loyal international fanbase. I see TXT, StrayKids, etc. going through a similar path of building and connecting with their audiences over the years. I have no doubt that they will reach more achievements than they already have now. Will they ever take BTS's place in history? Most likely not, but they can be celebrated with their own success.

Maybe explain first what the connotation is when one says ‘the next bts’. When BTS was becoming popular in the West they were callled ‘the next Beatles’ but BTS would answer back and say they would rather be thought of as ‘the next BTS’. In other words, they respect that the Beatles are their own group with their own amazing achievements, and BTS just wants to be BTS, not to be the Beatles. In the same way now with other groups trying to grow, it is disrespectful to those groups to be expected to be BTS when they are not; those groups are their own unique artists who will bring in unique achievements that only they can bring. Likewise, it is disrespectful to BTS to be thought of as replaceable or that their achievements, which extend beyond music, can supposedly be replicated by using mediaplay and by throwing money at it so these companies can claim the same fame for their artists. That’s why the term ‘the next [insert any great artist name]’ is such a bad move.
@marycatherine5424 Жыл бұрын
And also, the whole ‘the next bts’ tagline would be fine IF it was solely about creating a very successful group. But I’m telling you everytime the title is used it’s used to directly put that group against bts, often in those articles you may even see them try to put down bts and make it seem like they are now irrelevant. They always use this tagline with the intent to ‘defeat’ bts and that’s the problem here. The focus is no longer on making something unique it’s now about ‘replicating’ bts almost exactly
@eatjinnie47 Жыл бұрын
I think the next bts concept is both disrespectful to bts and the new grps like why would u want the new grps to be the nxt bts , they r their own grp and why would u want another bts bcoz their music has nothing to do with bts, they r working hard on it themselves and bts is once in a lifetime musical grp why would u ever want a nxt bts, u can never have that. Idol group mixes a lot of elements which is what makes them unique . If they only gonna dance while keeping their mics off 90% of the times ,that’s bullshit . Because as a music fan ,I wanna hear their voices more , if I wanna hear backtrack ,I can literally watch their music videos again . I know most lean toward certain skill ,but they are also asigned as a rapper/singer as well .I guess this is y they don’t grow musically except few (cuz I heard groups like txt,straykids,seventeen,gidle does control their artistic aspect) because their fans might wanna see them as only entertainers.
@NotSoDailyOfficial Жыл бұрын
I think the point we tried to make was completely overlooked. Most idols can sing and the songs that are produced are proof of that. Some sing better than others and some can sing live and some can’t. The validity of an idol isn’t solely dependent on wether they can do it live. Some struggle with dancing and singing so they avoid dancing while singing. Or some can’t sing the best live so they’d avoid with lip sync. There’s nothing wrong with it. Musicians can be idols but not every idol has to be a musician, or an artist. The ability to make your own music although really impressive also isn’t a requirement to being an idol. Being an idol covers a large scope of skills. Because you enjoy the music aspect more doesn’t mean the performing and dancing or variety/entertainment aspect is any less valuable.

You know that "Nxt BTS" or even that "Paved The Way" narrative will never really work on others except the said grp alone, because other artists especially SKZ from what I know is building their own strong and a long term unique identity to themselves as Artists, hence why others feeling disrespected for calling their faves as such is justified, because its a complete disrespect and ignorance to that grps artistical image if they're going to be only known for as the "Nxt BTS" plus it builds an inevitable expectation that the grp in question will be exactly like them in which of course that wouldn't be the case, hence why some of us Stays to Stray Kids renounce that kind of thing, I mean it is still an honor and if some looks it in a positive light then go for it, but from what we've seen so far, it is mostly used as a derogatory term to both grps in question, so yeah nope, we will build our own success and image is all...

Lol....BTS' different versions are different languages, not just different pictures. The point is to be individual, be your own artist, authentic, and organic. Don't spend your time and money trying to "beat" BTS, which a lot of companies get caught up doing and not letting their artists grow to be creatively themselves. When competing....that's when tunnel vision sets in, focusing on beating someone's accomplishments, no focus on the music, lyrics and presentation, this is the point of this, annoying, yes, when you try to copy. The other thing stated in this, these groups associate themselves with BTS to increase visibility, why not do it on their own? I think it's funny how you guys work to explain away things....loving yourself is universal, of course, the concept doesn't belong to BTS, but they are pointing out that K Pop, the industry is following the trend....again, if listening to the whole thing and then respond, might be better. I don't think Stray kids, BP and others are not good, but why do they have to keep associating themselves with BTS, why do their companies have to throw so much money for articles to be written about them being the next BTS? Seriously? Should do some reading, Dynamite, this was written in English, RM and BTS talked about this, didn't think the translation to Korean would be as good, so they left it in English, not try to get a Grammy. If they were really all about getting a Grammy, they could and would make an album in English. The thing about back track, BTS was always being accused of lip syncing, but somehow nobody else is being accused, it's okay? This is only what is/has been visible to the western area, they are known in Korea, they make sure they're known (producers). Comparison to the Beatles, is actually very relevant, they are the only group after the Beatle to have three number one albums in less than one year, it's not a comparison in the terms of them being the next Beatles! BTS did not just reach U.S. or western popularity, they reached domination. BTS got to where they're at on their own, nobody paying their way, nobody to write "fake" articles to puff up their popularity. They came to the west because the K Pop industry made it nearly impossible for them to make it there (the big three) with their money and control of the industry which includes radio and TV exposure. BTS had to make their own way, coming to the west, using social media to get their music and videos to fans. Now K Pop more than ever uses all the social medias, after seeing the fan base of BTS consuming this method. BTS is the only BTS, period!!!

Putting aside my biased heart and see things much more objectively.. many groups (not all) are treated / debuted merely as a "product" / "idol" not as an artists.. So its already lack of x factor. Though I'm not an army I could see BTS are genuine, and Bighit was in the right part when planning and making decisions along it. Plenty of other idols before and after BTS are also genuinely talented and truly "artists" but sometimes the company did not Use it and marketed it "well". More and more lipsync.. More unreal concepts.. Members who get Tiny parts of singing/screen time... Lack of engagaments in terms of musical performances and stage presence... And many more

for BP . the past, investors and corporations viewed girl groups as ornaments in kpop because they thought they couldn't become famous and make money. Boy groups were better off because 80% of the kpop fan base is female. Therefore, the company pays more attention to boy groups. But then one day, 4 girls BP prove and fight that girl group can be the main income of the company. They made people all over the world accept. The existence of a girl group Many companies and investors saw that girl groups could make a lot of money .Nowadays, if you look at the new generation of girl groups. More companies are willing to invest and promote a lot like luxury brands. BTS and BP grow with the internet Many people know BP before BTS and many people know BTS before BP. Just because BTS is more successful doesn't mean BP isn't popular. Picking up BP that separates male and female due to basic kpop fandom is stupid. when asked about kpop Two names will stand out: BP and BTS. I laughed when I saw the VDO. Many world records belong to these two groups, but the VDO makers do not accept the truth and only praise their favorite bands. i followed kpop for 15 years bigbang u.s.a tour bts still standing on the edge of the stage

@@Jess-tn1in Yet SM is the most notorious company to try and break it in the west(LSM literally paid money to have a street named after him, in L.A. if I am not wrong 😭). SuperM and their huge amount of bundles(before the bundles were banned) are the prime example of that. They even got called out by Billboard along with other artists for using those tactics. JYP uses ads in their MVs and YG invests a lot in playlisting and spotify deals( BP is again the prime example of that). Fun fact: In BP's spotify profile, there used to be a mention of BTS. An artist's profile is usually handled by the artists or their associates so... And by public? Do you mean kpop stans? Or GP around the world? Cuz I agree about the former but no, Big 3 doesn't have influence enough to get attention from the GP. There are of course a few groups who got known enough in some parts of Asia but all over the globe? Nah. Edit: So I did some research and viola! Guess what? SM uses ads too :) For example Aespa "Savage":- Views without ads - 90.63 million Views with ads - 146.0 million Aespa "Next Level" :- Views without ads - 139.3 million Views with ads - 191. 3 million For NCT 127's "2 Baddies" 85% of the views were ad views. You can search up the articles where even k-netizens were surprised at the absurd amount of ad views. They had only 8million real views in the first week, so 60+ million views were all thanx to ads. Pls do your own research too cuz these companies are really not as naive as y'all make them out to be.

They make some valid points, but I disagree with some. There are many extremely talented and unique Kpop groups out there with very diverse music and different genres, meaningful and relatable lyrics and a great stage presence and live performances as well and each of them trained very hard for many years to get where they are now, but I won't deny that BTS are great artists at all. Monsta X has Jooheon, I.M and Hyungwon write lyrics and produce songs and choosing concepts and themes, Soyeon from (G)I-DLE also writes and produces their music and chooses their concepts as well, the same goes for Seventeen where Woozi, S.Coups, Hoshi, Vernon, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Bumzu and several others write and produce their music. Then there's several other Kpop artists that write their own lines and solo music and concepts as well.

You miss the whole context, the point is kpop is now replicate the thing like good message, lyrics and all those stuff bcz BTS did great but the problem is what if they have their something own artistic identity which is not done before for example erykah Badu created Baduizm which is her trademarks but she could have been successful as another genre artist that she has learn but she didn't waste her energy and talent in something already have been done and now we are introduced to new genre, this whole k-pop think is waste of time and talent for the sake of some achievement that cost someone artistic identity,bad bunny did not do something better than someone, he did his own thing and become the bad bunny, each k-pop groups are now turning into BTS with more furnishings or atleast the base of the whole thing is same when they can be them maybe solo or group or can coexist together, Can you compare Coldplay/BTS/imagine dragons? No bcz these things are different and choose to be different and music world will accept something polished version of kpop group but will they be as eventful or impressive as Beatles who changed the game of pop music forever? No.taylor Swift break Beatles record but if you ask who is more eventful it's always gonna be Beatles, Michael Jackson who set the bar even if it's broken they become themselves and are legend .all this killing long-term gain of artistry in order to have a few records which BTS never wanted, it's just happened they keep on saying this for years, Making someone fit in something is crime, those companies are trying to do that only, what if those guys just like music as hobby and could have been a great actor, there are many kpop artist who later admitted of not knowing their own passion bcz of this horrible rat race in kpop . Harry styles was great in 1 direction and biggest boyband at that time but as a solo he becomes extra ordinary and surpass his own group in every record, that the whole point of this video ,?let them be Harry styles or Camila Cabello not Harry of 1d or Camila of fifth harmony or let them be group like Queen or Coldplay Or imagine dragons or BTS who have given something new and fresh when they could have been followed trends and achieve the same record they have achieved. Drake break a lot of records but people still consider 2 pac as most influential rapper bcz he changed the game of rap forever with thought provoking lyrics. Now kpop group conversation are focus was mostly on performance from beginning but BTS give more priority to lyrics so every group are told to focus on that rather than the performance thing which was fresh thing but Eminem had talk shit and still called legendary?why? Bcz he did it in his own rapping style which was fresh. What happening in kpop is trying to better what already have been done and becoming Drake when you can be 2 pac .

@@blossom6693 Again, I disagree. There's plenty of groups that have their own sound that doesn't sound like the "typical" Kpop group. You can't compare 3rd gen groups like Monsta X or NCT with groups like BTOB or Seventeen for example nor can you compare 4th gen groups like Stray Kids or Ateez to TXT or Astro, the same goes for girl groups like Dreamcatcher, (G)I-DLE or Everglow in comparison to groups like NewJeans, Le Sserafim or IVE. And again there's plenty that do write their own lyrics and focus on the meaning of their songs as well, not just the performances, which is my exact point. People need to stop generalising an entire genre of music and acting like they're all the same and interchangeable when that is not true at all.
