I'm a lifelong Bama fan and I love seeing Tennessee get back to being a championship contender. Traditional rivalries against top tier teams is what makes college football so exciting. I'm looking forward to watching Tennessee next year and I'll probably be rooting for them in every game but Alabama.

@@justinalley3399 Last year imo he was the second best RB on the team because of his running ability after the catch. Clearly better than Wright and Small in that regard. But not to play him in the UF game was a disaster. Why? Cause he wasn't an upper classman? lol Notice how fast they put him out there after the UF game. Unforgivable. It was the worst coached game of the season for the TN staff. We panicked, went vertical, which worked, than forget we could run the ball down their throats and coached the game as if UF's run D was Bama's or A&M's. Puzzling. We never did that again and Sampson was leading the SEC in rushing TD's at the time with six. Than oh we had to do the three-headed monster at RB which did work but didn't help Sampson get better at blocking, not when you cut his playing down in half.
@gwhite71366 ай бұрын
@@justinalley3399 Wright and Small didn't have Sampson's catching ability nor run after the catch. They were short yardage work horses and it worked. This season, Seldon has to be that lead work horse running back like Wright was, as well as Keith and or Bishop, and leave Sampson in there as that two spot RB/receiver. I'd like to see Peyton Lewis in there as he would be the fastest back on the team. I expect with NIco's ability, fewer defenses are going to stack the box with NIco's improved throwing ability vs Joe Milton's.

This. Nico is Heupel's first real QB recruit. And too many people don't realize Heupel's offense is a running offense. Sampson is the one moving under all the hype, and is going to end up being a massive star. As big as all the hype is for Nico, he is just an *addition* to what will be the Sampson-powered offense.

If anybody wants to know the big story to bet on in this coming season that nobody is talking about before the season, Dylan Sampson is it. I knew he was going to be that player 2 years ago as a freshman. He just showed everything needed. And Heupel's offense is a running offense. People don't know what they're about to be hit with this season and Tennessee's offense. It's going to be led by Sampson's running. Nico being Heupel's first true HS QB recruit for Tennessee (and being the #1 QB) is an *addition* to the Dylan Sampson offense. Nico isn't even going to be the primary feature. And too many people out there don't know that. But they will...

NIco's throwing ability should make defenses play off a little more than with Joe last year. This should help Sampson in blocking. Should. Seldon will still be the work horse like Wright was unless someone else emerges before Seldon gets back for that role and they have to be a blocker, I don't' know how Keith or Bishop are at blocking but I'd get Peyton Lewis involved if he has that ability as a 5 star Freshman RB.
@gwhite71366 ай бұрын
The TN staff committed some major sins vs UF last year in that game. Imagine not playing Dylan Sampson cause he was a Freshman? But along with many other young players who ended up starting later in the season, this was a head scratcher and TN lost the UF game, even with a better roster vs UF top to bottom. At one time last season before Wright was fully back, Dylan Sampson led the SEC in rushing TD's at the time with six What he did better than Wright and Small was what he did with the ball after the catch. He was more nimble than either right or Small but had a better ability for running the ball after the catch. Small and Wright also didn't have his catching ability. Even though the depth chart said, Wright, Small than Sampson, from an offensive production and ability, most fans saw it as Wright, Sampson and Small. This season, it's probably going to be Cam Seldon (whenever he gets back) Dylan Sampson, Khalifa Keith, Desean Bishop and 5 star Freshman Peyton Lewis.
@etw4life9706 ай бұрын
Sampson wasn't a freshman last year, it was his second year. He played some in '22. He didn't play much against UF cause Heupal didn't trust his pass blocking, and with Cooper Mays out, there was a ton of pressure up the middle getting to Milton.
@gwhite71366 ай бұрын
@@etw4life970 He mise well have been a Freshman, his, "fist" spring practice was in 23. This makes it even worse when you didn't play him vs UF in his Sophomore year? Sampson did have some issues blocking but clearly his production outweighed that. Still does. That game was nothing like what Heupel has coached since. The prior games of not going vertical with Joe Milton, only furhter unprepared the offense for an SEC opener. That same QB had Bama 20-7 at Bama at the half later in the season. A first for any Saban Bama coached team at home. If they don't go vertical with the Tempo Spread, the Tempo Spread won't work well. But sink or swim it has to be vertical.

VOL from birth here..Dylan is electric with the ball in his hands. He is a threat to score every time he touches the ball...BUT...if that dude does not learn how to block better he is going to get the Franchise broke in half...the staff will not be able to keep him on the field in passing situations, which obviously really throws a wrench in the offense because defenses will know what is coming. He has been absolutely horrid at pass blocking...he got Joe blasted on multiple occasions last year. Wright vastly improved year over year at pass-pro so I have confidence that Dylan will also....he has to perform big time this year if we are going to restore the offense to anywhere close to the 22 teams level.
