You can make an argument for Tudor as a Bond watch - seeing that the overall quality of a modern Tudor is probably roughly equivalent to where Rolex was in the late 50s or early 60s when Sean Connery was first sporting a Submariner. But I’d quite like to see them giving him something a little more numerically exclusive like a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. (For commercial reasons it’d never happen, I suppose.)

@qwertpoiuy4303 жыл бұрын
@@hutton40599 if you compare the Rolex to any of the ETA movements, then the Rolex movement will win absolutely every time. However I do think the new Tudor in-house mt5612 movement does match pretty nicely with the Rolex 3135 movement (1988-2015). While the Tudor movement does have a longer power reserve of 70h compared to the 48h of the Rolex (the newer 3235 movement also does 70h) the Rolex is a lot more decorated and much nicer looking with the Tudor being more barebones. Case wise, around the turn of the century Rolex stepped up the quality of cases and bracelets a lot, starting to use solid end links and stuff, and the cerachrom (ceramic) bezel is top notch. I do believe that a current Tudor is obviously superior to an 80s Rolex and even some 90s ones, but the y2k Rolex was closer to the modern Rolex than the Tudor is.

This idea that Bond should be more of a “blue collar common man” is a terrible one. Audiences want to see larger than life, aspirational heroes. But if MGM goes down this road, go all the way with it. To hell with the beautiful women, beautiful locales, beautiful outfits, and beautiful Aston Martins. Make Bond look like my high school history teacher (getting rescued by his mid 40s, overweight, high school history-teacher-looking wife), wear an entry level G-Shock (because practical), dress himself in a full wardrobe from the Gap, and chase the villain (Henry Winkler would be a great choice) in a beige Peugeot 308 to the local strip mall parking lot. Maybe top it off with Bond hammering a “Hate has no home here” sign into the front door of the villain’s lair before rolling the credits. It all sounds “very James Bond” to me.

I would like to see a brand with some British connections, as Rolex and Omega have. Tudor would be a good choice as they are more tool oriented a less exclusive than Rolex. Jaeger is a little too dressy even though the Compressor Navy Seal edition is a beautiful piece and would be great for Commander Bond. As for his style, they need to keep some British iconic pieces like they have done in the past. Barbour, Belstaff…. I like the suggestion of VC Private White. It really depends if they give him a more tactical casual look of keep his sophisticated look. I would like Bond to keep on being a “window” for British iconic brands (past and present).

Excellent discussion. In my ideal world the producers go back and do as faithful as possible adaptations of Fleming novels. Being a civil servant, Bond is a modest individual who enjoys quality things in life because any day could be his last. But I do like a more modest approach discussed here rather than the Omega oversaturation. That said, a Hamilton Khaki Field would indeed work for an everyday watch. JLC Reverso for his formal watch is a nice touch. I love the look of the Seiko Prospex SNE569 as a dive watch. If you go one brand only take the SNE569 as his tool watch and a Grand Seiko as his personal "do it all watch". As for wardrobe less is more. He is a military man and like Fleming outlined in the books, he has a uniform even in his everyday wear. He buys the best he can afford and wears it until it's time to replace it. His tailor is Turnbull & Asser, casual wear from Sunspel, shoes from Crockett & Jones. I think a less is more approach would be a great way to reintroduce a new Bond while being faithful to the origins.

For me it is only Tudor, for the Marine Nationale connection, the quality, heritage and tool watch credentials. A black bay 58 hearkens back to the Connery big crowns of old. For pre-existing brands, a reissue of the 1016 style explorer or seamaster 300 issued to the British special forces would be a no brainer... Totally agree with the Private White VC comment, although unless I'm very much mistaken I think I spotted the character of Tanner sporting one in No time to die. It is indeed a cracking film and we'll worth a trip to the cinema.

I think you nailed it with JLC! I don't know that JLC would want to go that commercial but it makes the most sense for Bond. Hamilton and Marathon make nice watches and are good brands but in a tailored suit and driving an Aston Martin it just doesn't fit. Something like the JLC Master Compressor Deep Sea chrono that was released around 2012 would be a perfect Bond watch and when he has to put on a Tux he could wear almost any variation from among their dressier watches.

Good morning TGV, Great video and a great conversation about the upcoming Bond watch. It's really hard to make a prediction. I think it witd depend a lot on which actor will play the next Bond. Omega has been a great fit for Brosnan and Craig. Should the next Bond also go in that direction, Hamilton would of course also be conceivable, also from the point of view that Omega and Hamilton belong to the Swatch Group. And Hamilton is currently expanding strongly into the gaming genre with their involvement in Farcry6. Isn't that crazy? On the other hand, Tudor would also be a good choice. Tudor and the connection to Rolex can make sense for Bond. Besides, Tudor has enough alternatives from diving watches, chronos to dressy watches. And Tudor relies very heavily on brand ambassadors in marketing. But I could also easily imagine Breilting welcoming the next Bond to the Cinema Squad. Many greetings!

Back on September 30th., my cousin and I went to the cinema to FINALLY watch No Time To Die in IMAX format - This is a tradition that we have been doing ever since Skyfall . Just to keep it short, it was totally WORTH THE WAIT and it's one of the greatest films ever made, in my opinion! Looking forward to add the film to my Bond collection when it's getting released on UHD Blu-Ray! Greetings from Denmark! - Jesper

I absolutely agree, that SHOULD have been the Bond watch. Those inward tapering indices, the thinner case that's rugged or dressy, the less obtrusive HEV, the sword hands, it's close to a perfect watch.

Moore did have a Seiko golden tuna in for your eyes only. I remember because I rewatched it and spotted it and it made me buy the very affordable Seiko Solar Golden Tuna immediately afterwards.

I don’t always agree with you but damnit if you don’t have the sickest intros of all time. Well done my friend!

I like the Marathon idea and it could be worked in to span both worlds, Everyman and Haute: First Bond has to beat someone to death using just the Marathon watch, a single devastating blow and then -- CUT SCENE -- there he is in a tuxedo, sipping champagne and talking about the deceased: "What a shame he had to go so young. What did he die from?" "Marathon, I've heard. Died during training for his first full-distance attempt." "Oh, what a pity. One should never try to ramp up too quickly."

The JLC Polaris Automatic (no date) would be a great choice. Smart and functional. Internal rotating bezel and extra crown could supply great point for gadgets. Henry Cavill wore this watch on red carpet for Mission Impossible .I actually think he'd be a great bond. He dresses very well, has physicality and that upper class private school background. He may need to size down a bit, more to his Immortals frame than current shape. But he'd nail it.

Man, it was so funny to read ericmittens Hugo's 007 movies listed. Just Brilliant! I think Hugo is so BIG right now in the show business they'll probably have to change the narrative so Hugo is served by the Queen LOL Amazing video. I won't do any speculation on watches or clothes now, maybe later. Amazing video, man, What a pleasure!

I’d say Tudor, they focus on style, more affordable for the every day consumer, has the history connection with Rolex and style fits all bond scenario

I think the next Bond would do well with a vintage Submariner or a new version of it from Rolex. I've always thought the Seiko SKX007 screamed Bond but it's just too accessible to be worn by the character. The Omega Seamaster 300m worn by Bond in Goldeneye is the best looking watch of all time in my opinion. It is a look that is beyond iconic at this point and goes with Bond like peanut butter and jelly. What isn't great about it is how they have exploited the brand placement in the past. With Brosnan, the movies never had a scene where they're like "Hey! He's wearing an Omega!" like Casino Royale. In fact I had no idea what the watch was when I first saw Goldeneye and scrambled to figure it out (before internet era). The watch should be a tool for Bond as it was in that film, without the cringe product placement. We all know it's an Omega. At this point, change would be welcome.

Honestly the jlc super compressor came to mind first, but it might not work for every secret agent setting. So I'm going to have to agree with bond being at least a two watch man. Perhaps the marathon gsar for tactical missions and a dress watch for formal events

The shouts for Bremont make total sense. Marathon though TGV, no chance. Tag could very much work, their marketing department also has enough staff to handle it already 🙂

A British watch: Zero West or Speake-Marin. Though JLC did do a co-brand with Aston Martin & created a watch that also housed the door lock remote. Pretty sweet ;)
