Really the ones I think need a rework are Germany for extra alt history, Japan because it's just all so linear and hard locked and the Commonwealth nations as they are quite outdated at this point and don't interact much with each other for a group so closely aligned at the time.

It is a very versatile nation and a focus would make it very fun to play

If you've followed the announcements from Paradox about HOI4 for a long time, then you'd know they've already strongly hinted Scandinavia is coming up. When talking about their future DLC plans, they mentioned having more releases like Battle for the Bosporus which are regional focus tree packs without major mechanic changes- and they specifically mentioned "Scandinavia" alongside it. It's the obvious choice, anyways. I'd put a little bit of money on this being the next DLC they announce, whenever they get around to announcing it.

There are two ways to see every nation getting a focus tree: Every starting nation, reasonable Every nation, including releasables and focus tree exclusive nations, extremely ambitious but really cool (also would need more tags for stuff like Vojvodina, Dalmatia, etc.)

Brazil could have a focus tree similar to that of Switzerland, since historically, the Getulio Vargas government used its support to enter the war on both sides, until the Germans got tired and started attacking the Brazilian coast and its merchant ships with their submarines. this made brazil agree to build american air bases to protect the maritime route that came through south africa. moreover, it was through this power game that brazil received investments to build its steel industry and supply the allies. Not to mention that the Brazilian expeditionary force actively acted in Italy and had great victories such as Monte Cassino.

I honestly feel like you're underrating the Southeast Asian nations quite a bit. The history of Indonesia especially in WW2 was super interesting. The Philippines was also an active battleground where quite a bit happened. And ofc as you said Siam were major players Idk much about Malaya in WW2 but they have Singapore which is something lol

I believe that the next big DLC will be either Scandinavia or Japan. Japan desperately needs a rework. It is by far the worst tree now that Italy has been changed, which is a shame because Japan has huge potential. You Can even throw in a naval rework/upgrade and focus for southeast Asian and the pacific as a whole. Call It something like Tora Tora Tora

13:04 these countries are quite interesting since Iran was invaded by the allies (During WW2) and also Iraq was invaded for being a literal Axis country (During WW2 Aswell), and Afghanistan is also really cool too! the potential in these Nations are pretty good. Though the next DLC Will probably be the northern Europe Nations.

I've been saying since NSB came out and people were pissed that Finland didn't get a tree that I'm ok with it because I think it'll come in a DLC with those other three. It just makes too much sense not to do and I honestly feel that Paradox could actually do a decent job since they are based in Sweden and so would have a better understanding of it and the region. I don't think they would make the trees generically similar to each other, maybe they have a similar branch or something like the Nordic Union branch for Scandinavia in KR but that's about it. I'm hopeful and excited that they do Scandinavia

If talking about new focus trees, I would like to get Finland's one. They play an important role in WW2. As for reworks, I would like to get a Romania a rework. I kinda like a current one but an inability to core anything makes it so hard to become a major power on it. And I like to deal with Carol II. Somehow he makes me laugh every time the event with his stupid shit pops off, but would like if there was a balance of power system and the ability of kicking him out has his absolute power being questioned and authority reduced

Rt56 is fun but there is something that doesn’t feel vanilla about it. I think they can make cool features in a way that’s better integrated into the base game that feels less disconnected and abstract. That being said I do like me some RT56, I just always prefer the vanilla tree options over the RT56 ones if a nation has both.

I really do see a possibility that we have a aussa situation for some countries where they have very small focus trees that would be a better alternative to generic focus trees mostly for Caribbean and central american countries. I also see the possibility for colonial puppets to get released such as french Indochina, Belgian Congo and Egypt which could lead to very interesting situations.

These are the nations that NEED focus trees/reworks IMO: S: Nordic countries, [ Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg ] A: Southeast Asia, [ Japan, Mongolia, Tanna Tuva, Mengkukuo ] B: Middle East, Albania C: [ Together for victory re-work, Ireland ] D: South America, Central America, Caribbean, Africa There are so many nations that were directly involved in the war that just haven't been added that NEED to be added. *Finland*, Denmark, Norway, *Iran*, *Iraq*, Albania, *Siam* & the Southeast Asian colonies, and Brazil. There are many other nations that helped with man or material or "declared war" for either side, but didn't directly send their military forces to battle. But with Brazil being the only South American nation to send their own military forces it's unlikely for any South American focus tree pack, and also unnecessary until PDX have added more important nations like FINLAND!!!

I think at this point the next largest update (apart from Scandinavia focus) will be about Japan and Asia in general. Possible Japanese rework/expansion, a more realistic Pacific War with new and improved content for Thailand, Malaya, Australia, and India (HoI4 doesn't even have Azad Hind! Missed opportunity there). Maybe we'd even get something mechanic-wise with Japan creating "vassals" that are nominally "freed nations" in it's sphere; the current vassal system is pretty old and it can get tedious with simply leasing convoys to annex/liberate.

If we ever did get south america dlc (which i personally disagree with, as they are by and far the most disconnected continent from ww2) i think it’d be best to give them all a regional focus tree, like china. Maybe brazil gets a different one for being not spanish and instead Portuguese, but for the most part they should have semi large, but semi unimpactful shared focus trees.

I personally want a focus tree for Austria with the ability to reject the Anschluss peacefully and to form Austria-Hungary similar to the Hungarians (optimally with less randomness). And I would like an expansion for the German tree with having an Operation Valkyrie after attacking the Soviet union which kills HitIer, ends the war against the Allies (especially the US) with some kind of compromise and makes you non-aligned.

Like a political campaign "no war between German nations" or some kind of "befriending the Allies" to get guarantees early on or inciting a civil war in Germany to keep the country occupied with itself or some kind of defense agreement with Czechoslovakia that can deter the Germans and foreshadows the later Austria-Hungary approach. In any case, much of this would make much more sense than Germany simply leaving Austria to the Hungarians, as is currently the case if the player is reviving Austria-Hungary as Hungary.

Unless its a Battle of the Bosphorus situation, remember that a new mechanic or rework of a mechanic is included related to the nations getting focuses. I think a Scandanavia focus would make most sense to have a rework of naval/land interaction and special forces. Things like naval forts being able to damage ships (because of the sinking of the Blücher) and redoing how naval invasions work, perhaps with the ability to pick up/supply units for who don't have a port, which would allow for commando raids. Finland could get some focuses or mechanics to allow for people like Simo Hayha to be in the game without having to be in military high command

Trickiest thing with reworking/balancing the USA focus tree is that a hefty chunk of it is tied to the world tension system, and the more whacky and crazy focus trees that get added for other nations means a lot more chances for world tension to spike early which in turn gives USA a free "Giant Wakes". So if you don't want an OP USA in your game, you're essentially forced to play the long game. A potential remedy for this could be to simply add more prerequisites for "Giant Wakes".

Finland needs an escalation mechanic like Ethiopia has, it suits them better anyway. The allies had plans to attack the Soviet oil fields and sending volunteers etc, so the longer your hold on, the same happens as with Ethiopia imo. Would fit perfectly.

I think it would be cool if the Slovakian puppet state Germany sets up after the fate of Czechoslovakia focus had a focus tree similar to Vichy France. Where you work towards reunifying with the Bohemian lands controlled by Germany. This could be done by assisting with the war effort and by providing services to the Germans possibly in a balance of power style system. Where guns and manpower could be exchanged for points that can be utilised to gain industrial support from the Germans (construction of factories). Increase the nations autonomy or as mentioned before, reclaim the lost Bohemian lands. After which it could gain access to a new altered Czech focus tree.

0:52 Actually, without the Norwegian Merchant marine Britain would have been forced to the negotiation table before the US could have even joined. Norwegian transport ships transported about half of the fuel and food going to Britain during the early war. Our ships also plaid a major role in supplying the USSR with the trucks they needed to supply their front line units. Our air force also played a role during the battle of Britain. Our navy also contributed quite a bit. In general the exile navies and air forces of various occupied nations where often more prone towards taking risks in order to defeat the Germans. Our destroyers for instance going on downright suicidal torpedo runs etc, and we wheren't alone in that. We also played a important role in the sinking of several German naval assets.

Swedish focus tree would be cool when you think about all the shenanigans they did during the war; selling materials to the axis, selling information to the allies, sending volunteers and materials to Finland... And of course for non-historical things you would have them joining Finland in the winter war, reuniting with Norway and Denmark, reclaiming Finland and going to war with Russia and Germany for the loss territories from the 30 year war.

I think that next in line they’re either going to do a nordics focus dlc as during the NSB dev diaries where someone asked about Finland I think they said something along the lines of “ we think it would be better to do Finland at the same time as all of their Nordic brothers at the same time” and I also think the other major likely update is a middle Europe revamp with focus’ for Belgium Luxembourg Austria and a German revamp (and maybe Ireland or Albania being added to finish off the rest of europe???) or I think the third most likely would be a south east Asia update for Siam, the Philippines, indonesia and Malaysia as it could add a bit off variation and interest to that area especially when fighting Japan and I think that adding those countries focus trees would work great with a Japanese revamp

Finland probably would have been in No step back but it is difficult to make a focus tree for Finland. It has to be balanced enough that it doesn't make Finland too op against USSR, but good enough to be fun and possible to play.

Hitler's original plan, because it's all he thought he could get, was a semi-autonomous Austria, so that's actually completely historical. Would be epic, Austria had a lot going on at the time, many routes it could take for a tree.

I think a lot of interesting stuff could happen in a south america dlc. Venezuela continued trading with italy and germany a few years into the war and the allies were generally afraid they would join on the axis side. The venezuela gameplay could be all about managing allied, neutral and axis control of the venezuelan oil trade and then intervening if you fall too much to either side. Brazil had a sizable German population and imported a shitload of German goods. They did eventually send the Brazilian expeditionary force to the Mediterranean theater. But an earlier entry on either side could come from early investment into the Brazilian economy either from Germany of the USA. Colombia was heavily influenced by the US, but was also home to a lot of German immigrants and Bolivia was incredibly unstable in the 30s, 40s and 50s, with outside support a faction could gain complete control. I could totally see a DLC focusing on Venezuela and Brazil with Colombia and Bolivia getting minor trees.

It's a shame that Czechoslovakia remains as the only untouched, non-updated focus tree out of the DLC. There is a massive potential for solving the Sudeten crisis as well as dealing with the "minorities" inside of the country, such as Germans, Hungarians, and to a certain degree even Slovaks (not sure whether there were separatist movements there if we ignore Tiso's Slovakia). Having the balance of power between centralization and autonomy for regions within would be an amazing addition, because it would imo make a huge sense. Other than Czechoslovakia, I'd really like to see Austria-Hungary become a tag-switch into a unique focus tree specialized on reintegration of the empire once formed, enriched by more diplomatic options and industrial focuses centered not only on Hungary. Internal factions such as having a democratic, fascist and communist paths once the empire is formed would add so much flavor in terms of that reformationist federalist spirit, for example.

Hell, there would actually be a nice and easy to get achievement for Sweden. Turn absolute monarchy and conquer Brno. The achievement name would be "No more noon at 11". In the city of Brno, noon mas is rung at 11 am, because during siege of the city back in a day by Sweeds, Sweedish general made a statement, that if the city doesn't fall by noon prayer, he'd lift the siege. Somoene managed to get this information to a priest in the city, the priest rung the bells for noon mass an hour early and the general, true to his word, lifted the siege and moved on.

Dave you might want to read up or watch an history video about the Aztecs - they were very much in Mexico, and most indigenous peoples were their enemies. Cortez invading was basically an opportunity for them all to fight the Aztecs. The Aztecs had been capturing other people for human sacrifice to keep the sun god able to escape the serpent that chased it through the sky. Their core territory had no overlap with an Central American nations except Mexico.

Jo bylo by fajn kdyby něco takového přidali. Přece jen Československo i s dlc má spoustu problému jako manpower omezený čas na přípravu, nízkou stabilitu, málo a neužiteční adviserů atd. Při tom je tolik věci co by se dali zpracovat nějaké eventy o českých legiích, které by přinesli bonusy, Problémy se sudetskými Němci, Stavba opevnění jako řada eventu které budou vyžadovat consumer goods, ale za to postaví pevnosti a daji bonus na stavbu dalších ne jako nudné focusy bez charakteru, který děla každý kvůli manpoweru. Přidat možnost získání core na staré české území horního Slezska. Udělání nějakého insane focus tree pro Husity něco jako Itálie za papeže. Jak říkáš Velká Morava možná Sámova říše nebo české Rakousko uhersko nebo dokonce možnost obnovit Svatou říši římskou. I je spousta českých jmen které by se tam mohli uplatnit jako Baťa pro větší efektivitu výroby, Radola Gajda jako vůdce fašistické české strany která byla proti Němcům a on sám byl veteránem Českých legií… Bohužel je nás málo a Čechů co aktivně hraje hoi a zajímá se o něm ještě míň takže si nemyslím že se někdy dočkáme. Byl by fajn i Focus tree pro Slovensko s tím že by spolupracovali s třetí říši a mohli třeba vyřídit problém s Maďary atd.

It would be quite fun for the Irish Alt history focused. There is a lot of potential. Stuff to do with the IRA, to purge the nation of British influence, stuff to do with joining the axis/allies, revenge for the famine, possible civil wars and conflicts, Reclaiming Celtic lands (not just Scotland wales and Brittany but also possibly former Celtic tribal lands from Galicia to Romania (which would be fun to fight the reformed Roman Empire)) as and Northern Ireland. Maybe being able to start up uprisings and establish Irish puppet regimes in nations with massive amounts of Irish immigrants ands stuff (like causing chaos in the US and Canada), + just causing ultimate chaos in the world.

Something a lot of people aren’t aware of is that Iraq briefly joined the Axis during WWII. I say briefly because the moment they joined the British attacked and utterly destroyed them, but still there’s a lot of alt history possibilities there.

Hey Dave I love the video btw! I had an interesting thought about America and how op it is. I think a good thing for American would to implement a system where you are completely broke “ high consumer goods” until Japan declares war. In the time form the start of the game to Japan declares war could be a heavy system of really supporting the war effort in Europe and ruining blockades against Japan and have a vary big diplomatic system. I know you can aid Britain with a few click and weapons and war support but to expand on this and get some civilian factories army and air and navy xp for making equipment aircraft and ships for them and really slowly pulling your self out of the depression I think would be a good start. I love america it was the First Nation I played and I continue to play i have over 3,000 hours and I’d say 70% of those hours are from america. Just to get a “harder time” with america I have to tick up the AI by 3-4 clicks to give me a challenge same with Germany. I would love to see a video just dedicated to america and how paradox can really rework America Germany Japan and even china and Manchuca. Sorry for the really long comment hope you see this !

Can understand of Ecuador & Peru get specific Focus trees due to The Ecuadorian-Peruvian War of 1941. Brazil were courted by both The Axis & Allies throughout WWII especially after the British Naval Blockade disrupted trade between Brazil & Germany who at the time South America had over 1.5 Million Ethnic Germans, They eventually joined The Allies in 1942. Can see a United West Indies Federation kind of scenario when it comes to The Caribbean. Could definitely see Iraq having a focus tree due to The Anglo-Iraqi War of 1941 & is actually within the UK Focus tree.

Balance of Power I feel is an amazing mechanic to play around with, and a lot of nations could really benefit from it in future DLC, whether it be new or reworked nations. However, if we are talking just strictly focuses, I would like to see Japan and Germany get reworked, Japan more than Germany. For new nations, as much as I would love to see Siam, DEI, Phillipines and Malaya get a focus tree, I find it far more likely that we will see Belgium get one (hopefully with Luxembourg!).

If they're ever doing a South American dlc, they're gonna do Brazil and Argentina on the same package, there's literally no reason to split the two most interesting countries in the region Argentina probably would want to reform the old "Rio de la Plata" map from when they used to be a colony annexing Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia, they also could demand the Falklands and do the war with the UK earlier than they historically did Brazil on the other hand doesn't really have any historical borders to expand into, but they could use their position as the strongest South American Nation to make a treaty with the US and demand decolonization to the UK, Netherlands and France, of course Brazil also has the cool option to suggest Rejoining with Portugal Another interesting country to put in the pack could be Peru, who could just like Argentina claim their historical colonial borders and have a war with Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela

The next Focus Tree should ideally be Co-Belligerents Siam & Finland. Also some focus trees for MP nations. Siam had a border conflict with Vichy Frances Indochina which could be apart of a balance of power mechanic. Siam resisted joining Japan or the Allies (Again could be part of a BoP) and a could be incorporated into the Japan BoP event if reworked. Finland. Simple.... Winter War, Continuation War. Lapland War. They played their part in WW2. Again a BoP can be used. Balance between Axis and Comintern. Brazil, Norway and also need focus trees. Would give us 2 axis and 2 Allies focus trees for use in Single Player and Multiplayer. Brazil offer options for gameplay in South America and Atlantic. Norway with trying to hold out and stop the Axis gaining access to vital materials (Steel and Heavy Water) These 4 nations played a bigger part in WW2 than most other nations that dont have a focus tree. Could also add Philippines during a Japan BoP rework.

I enjoy playing Argentina all the time. I see it change historical all the time. My goal is to take as much of South America before the US is willing to get involved. I just hope they keep it all balanced. I feel like as they update focus trees and add new mechanics it hurts the countries that do not get any benefit from the new mechanic.

About austria, there is also a possibility of a sort of Southern German Confederation. Bavaria in particular have always been closer to the austrians than the Germans in culture and language, and as austria you could go for inciting rebellions in bavaria and form a southern german confederation and then go for a war with germany.

What’s interesting for Austria is that if you form Austro-hungry. You could form with Germany to create greater Germany. There was a plan in the 1800’s to do this. So you’d get a super German with both their cores and industry.

That's what I was thinking when it comes to Austria, basically you get annexed OR you become super-integrated puppet but you can still influence German politics. Maybe making Adolf honor his Austrian blood by renaming the country (Germanic Reich/Germano-Austrian Reich) and then going for a slow takeover by staffing Wehrmacht/advisors with Austrians, finalizing with an assassination of Hitler for a total takeover (all while Germany is at war, and this can be a starting point for a diplomatic game of siding with Allies or Comintern to fight the other side).

I would love a new fo us tree that is similar to Polands or Frances monarchy path. Aka choosing between different monarchs. I don't really know which country would fit it though. Germany perhaps? Might be able to stretch it to the Scandinavian countries?
