He's really, really good - no doubt. But I AM a bit salty that he overtook Sid and Ovi's post-season goal records in salary cap era. Same point I've made to others with Bouch overtaking Coffey's record, and Connor nearing Gretz and Lemieux ==> Oilers stats are really inflated. They're no doubt an offensive prowess, but these names (except McD) are nowhere near the caliber of talent and skill as that which they're surpassing. It's a new high-scoring era in the NHL. Thanks to Dallas for stretch passing on the oil. They learned how to defend it and then started using it on Florida. Great defense against a heavy forecheck. Then if Florida uses it usual bullying tactics. The Oil PP will destroy any team. Plus everyone dismisses our 3rd and 4th line as no depth. Those are the guys on the PK for Edmonton and one could argue they won the series against Dallas and Vancouver. They don’t get enough credit. It’s always McDavid and Drai but for good reason.

I wondered when they challenged that goal if deflating the Panthers wasn't the strategy. Don't challenge, and it's 2-1. Lose the challenge, and it's 2-1 and you go on the penalty kill that's been 99% against the Panthers, and has more short handed goals than they do power play goals. Win the challenge, and you suck the entire life out of the team. From a strategic point, the reward of challenging was astronomically higher than the risk...It was a brilliant calculated move to go for it.
@allanshpeley42845 ай бұрын
This is exactly what I've been saying. It was undoubtedly the best strategic move taking everything into account. Florida's coach said he never would have challenged it. Sure, but he also doesn't have Edmonton's PK.

The best analysis I've seen so far is Mark Messier and PK Subban yesterday discussing Game 6 and Florida's problems. Both agree Oilers now have the momentum to go all the way, and it's mental breakdowns that is costing Panthers heavily. It's really hard to tell watching live because the Cats are just letting up such bad turnovers and odd-man rushes. Props to the guy who tweeted it. I agree with most in saying that it'll be REALLY hard for the Oilers to screw this up, unLESS the Cats resume their minimal-mistake and disciplined style of play from Games 1-3 due to now actually having something at stake. But if that's not a factor, they're absolutely cooked. Almost feel bad for them, but they did it to themselves for a significant portion of it. Thank you hockey gods for this insane playoff year and possibly one of the most insane story in sports! This is one of the few times where your title won't be an overstatement lol

What happened is that Oilers figured out Bob and his team. They were not scoring but keeping up with them in games 1 and 3. Oilers figured out that you need to shoot up on Bob. No low pucks.
@jsquared10135 ай бұрын
It's not just where to shoot on Bob, it's their team structure and patterns of play. Limiting the Florida forecheck and offense is arguably more critical than getting their shots elevated.

Even with how good the entire team has been obviously since mcdavid didn’t even record a point in game 6, but if I was the panthers there’s no player that would terrify me more to face in this situation bc if he decides he’s not losing he’s shown that can smoke any team on his own. The Oilers were knocked out by the eventual Cup Champs the last 2 playoffs and people still think they have no business playing in game 7. The goal was offside and the NHL got it right that's all fans around the league have ever asked for.
@MikeHarvey-ol7xr5 ай бұрын
Exactly. I was pleasantly surprised they got the call correct. I despise the "conclusive to overturn" stance for protecting ref egos. The standard should be; if you just saw the play for the first time, what is the correct call.
@mb71965 ай бұрын
Not logical. This team is not those teams. This team should be judged on what it did this year. And this year they were sloppy and inconsistent. They have every business being in the game 7 because they've earned it, but it doesn't change the fact that they continuously played with fire and put themselves into situations they could have lost. Their structure and discipline has been suspect all year long. They've simply managed to overcome it. Both things can be true. It's impressive for sure, but the sentiment of people who think "they have no business", while not correct, is based in reality.

Great analysis, but I would add that the script began to get flipped in the third period of game 3. That’s when the Oilers began finding ways to score on Bobrovsky, but arguably Skinner and defence didn’t give his team the chance to win. Then this momentum carried over to the blowout in game 4. And also, games 4-7 throughout the playoffs: Skinner is 10-0. Besides these points, the Oilers largely dominated Games 1 & 3 and have actually only had one bad game which was game 2. Great analysis. One of the better channels talking about this series in my books.👍

Glad to see the analysis behind what I had surmised with intuition. The Xs & Os showed how Edmonton's youth was capitalized on the Panther's open looks gave. The joy of the young team contributing to the offensive power, while giving Connor the night off inspired the joy needed to sustain them as they charge back into the series. Cap off the boyhood love of the game with a Cup in Canada. Go Oilers.

I asked for 7 games, but really didn't expect it to happen this way LOL. Let's be real, who's surprised that Oilers are about to win it? They've done the two Cup-guaranteeing moves a team can do: fire your coach and hire a new one mid-season, and have a major failure that they've overcome as a team.

I'm a Wings fan and have done my fair share of crapping on this guy, but I think Kenny Holland deserves some credit for taking the Oilers from perpetually disappointing to being one win away from the Cup. For example.. The whole year he got shit for bringing in Brown. Then you see the Oilers PK in the playoffs, and it makes Holland look like a genius.

He can only stand on his head for so long as an older goalie and his team is doing next to nothing to back him up, it's pathetic. He deserves better. They better put Stolarz in the net for the beginning of 7, but at this point it almost doesn't matter. Congrats, Oilers.
