UPDATE: The Nickelodeon movie might have been found. A film called “Butcher’s Hook” was discovered and the OP is 90% sure that’s the correct film, he just needs confirmation that it aired on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network www.reddit.com/r/tipofmytongue/comments/hcdnr4/tomt_the_nickelodeon_movie_that_used_real_bones/? Don't watch the "Everything Coming Up Spring" video too much or else KZbin will sneak it into your music mixes. I was listening to a Beatles mix on KZbin and then that shit started playing lmao

"The Butcher" short sounded incredibly familiar to me when it was described, I swear I saw something like that as a kid. I have seen other people in the comments post about how it has supposedly been found and is called "the butcher's hook" but if that is The video the OP meant than it is not the one I remember seeing. The one I remember was a monochrome stop motion cartoon involving a disembodied hand with a meat cleaver chopping up puppet skeletons ( I doubt they were real bones), in a black void, the puppets then fight against the hand.

@@aneth69 Advertising doesn't let you have loopholes like "well they can look at the website", otherwise medical ads on TV wouldn't have walls of warning text on screen while the narrator rapidly says stuff like "do not use if you are pregnant or may become pregnant or have pets or X or Y or Z". None of that was in this advertisement, it's absolutely a lawsuit risk because if someone uses the product because they saw this ad, and then suffer a side effect they were not properly warned of, they can absolutely sue because it's on the people advertising medical products to disclose 100% of the known risks and problems.

I live on the east coast and watched The-N a lot during that time period which is a sister channel to Nickelodeon that aired a lot of Canadian transports namely Degrassi. I have definitely seen this short and remember multiple shorts airing between commercials of the shows. However I don't remember there being anything said about the bones being human or even real and am not sure how the original searcher would even know that.

Ella Flowers with help from her daughters. The episodes were produced from 1996 to 2004 and were worked on constantly. Ella Flowers did all of the known voice work for the show.

"The Butcher" sounds a lot like something tha would've been done by Władysław Starewicz, a pioneer in stop motion who would often use dead animal bits in his production like insects or bird bones. He began his carrer while cinema was a newborn art, so a lot of his films were shot in black and white and had no dialogue. He has a quite the extensive filmography but died in the sixties, so if "The Butcher" is a more recent production, it would mean that the film was probably made by someone influenced by Starewicz work and not the man himself.

@Brianna Troché I can only find one clip of the show on KZbin. Most google searches bring up the Fox show “Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction” from several years later. The Nick show is hosted by a guy named Jay Potter and aired on Nickelodeon some time between 92-94 I think. The KZbin clip I found was an episode where he covered the story of the elephant man and a few other true strange stories. I’m positive they eventually changed the show format to something more similar to the future Beyond Belief fox show where they’d make up creepy stories as well and reveal which stories were true at the end of the episode. The segment I’m specifically thinking of was a story they made up that when you go to sleep at night strange hybrid animals and cryptozoology type creatures roamed around outside. They revealed at the end it was made up but it still terrified me for years.

That "morning show" is 100% fake. The images on the screen are 3D, but the resolution is intentionally made awful to try to mask that and make it seem like a hand-made animation. 3D effects would have been impossible for a local show back then, let alone bigger channels. Only a few 3d shows existed, and they were all on major networks. I was extremely hard and expensive to get your hands on computers that could make 3D images unless you worked for a company that had them, so it wasn't something that someone would have freelanced at the time. You can also see pixelated areas surrounding the characters showing some editing/manipulation. Smooth animation would have also been impossible on something made cheaply for a local station, too. I think the creator is trying to make the animation look cheap, but when you're making things by hand, cheap animation is signified by fewer frames, not poor drawing skills. Fewer frames make animation look choppier, but save on the time and effort it would take to an animation that looks smooth like the ones in the videos. It means that the animation had to have been done digitally.

HOWEVER, given the fact this was originally posted in 2007 i can't imagine why someone would bother to make and post it without it being an ARG. and if it was an ARG- how come no one has heard about it, or played? typically the creator will make some fake accounts somewhere to boost the signal like "hey i found this weird thing on the web!" which doesn't seem to have happened.

I don't know if you're going to see this, and I apologize if this is scattered, I'm coming down from a migraine right now lol. This is gonna be long I'm sorry in advance. But anyway, I have a lost video that I've been trying to find for years. When I was in 4th grade (probably around 05? 06 maybe?) my music teacher wanted us to be cultured and decided to do that she was going to show us a Russian play/musical called "Petrushka." Now, there are a few videos of people performing this ballet, because if I remember correctly, it's sort of like a fable or something. What we saw, however, was a sort of movie adaption of a puppeteered version of Petrushka. Some backstory, from what I can remember about the ballet: Petrushka is about a puppet named Petrushka. He's lonely I think? And he falls in love with the statue of a ballet dancer in a music box. He tries to pursue her, but she's in love with another puppet. Spoiler alert, he tries to battle the other puppet and ends up getting his throat slit in the process. The version we saw was all marionette-style puppeteering, I think. I remember a lot of stop-motion style things too, the fact that there was a fountain with the weird jelly-looking goo coming from it. Maybe it was stop motion? And at the end, when Petrushka gets his throat slit, he falls to the ground for a second. The camera stays there, just above his body, and then he gets back up. His throat is gushing pink-goo blood and his eyes, I think they were green, were completely black. The once-melancholic puppet looks angry. His face was all twisted up in a way he'd never been shown before. Maybe it's just the fact that I was like 8 or 9 when I saw it, but it was absolutely horrifying as a child. The image of his bloody, eyeless corpse staring directly at the camera will forever be burned into my memory. I probably would've assumed it was a fever dream if it wasn't for the fact that my friend of like 15 years was in the class with me and also vividly remembers it (and is also unable to find that specific film). All I remember about the specifics was that it was probably some kind of film/dvd adaption. I think we were watching it on youtube, and it was in several parts. If anyone knows where I can find this clip, I'd love to take another stroll through trauma lane lmao

Ya know these videos got me thinking... I remember a movie that I saw in the earlyish 2000's (about 2009) and this movie was about space and I tried for years to search for it but I could never find it. It was where this kid gets sent to space from his bedroom and he meets the planets. I remember there were songs. Also, Mercury and Venus both thought they were the first planet. I remember Mercury's song by heart despite me seeing this years ago. It went: "I am one! Number 1! The first planet from the sun. I am grinning, cause I'm winning, near the sun I'm always spinning! Mercury! That is me! First in line I'll always be. I am first place, not the worst place, number oneeee!" I think it was on DVD because I watched it on repeat and the planets had human faces. Does anyone remember this?

idk if this helps, but the "Everythings coming up spring" Sounds like a Mr. Rick Sowash. He's a native ohioan author, storyteller, Composar, Artist, art historian, and teacher. (i had him for my storytelling class a few years ago) i could see if i could contact him about this and ask him if he knows anything about it or if it was him who was singing and playing the piano in the video.

Oh wow, the "Pink Morning Cartoon". When I first joined the Lost Media Discord, that was one of the obscure medias I was invited to search around with a user named Alex, who bought up about the cartoon in the Discord. We were both interested and we started to find a lead, until we (assuming because it has been three months since the last update) eventually gave up. And yes, I was 16x611#9776, the one other Discord user. (6:52) I honestly forgot it existed until you bought it up, and I wanna say thanks for bringing the media to light. We are currently in a dead end, and we are delighted for anyone else to help out. Besides, I was pretty much a beginner there, because I want to get the satisfaction of finding at least a source of lost/obscure media and knowing the context and background about it. But with a lack of sources I can think of to backtrack other things, it's quite hard for me.

If anyone lives in Columbus OH, maybe they can check a library for a newspaper database? IIRC it used to be normal for newspapers to have a small section for the TV guide.

Thank you all for the recommendation. But the only problem is that I am in the United Kingdom, so it will be quite difficult. Though, I'll tell Alex about the consideration to check local sources. Thank you all once again. I'll try and find accessible OH sources for me to search for the case.

6:18 fun fact! Agamemnon Counterpart is also from a bit before creepypastas, 2001. It’s part of an entry to Destination Imagination, a problem solving competition for kids. I think I found the description for the challenge it was for a while back and it was something about making a piece of media from another time period and building a machine from that time period to play the media. There was probably a sketch that would have gone with the video and possibly a technical challenge too. Given that elementary schoolers are the largest demographic for DI, I’d imagine that the spookiness of it was unintentional and it’s funny to see people interpreting it as like a cursed cult video

It amazes me just how much media falls into obscurity and is lost forever, even with people searching we only ever know about the ones that someone, somewhere remembers. There must be ridiculous amounts of content out there with no hope of recovery because no one remembers it existing.

17:42 My country also had very short live action "films" written and starring local children which played between the Nickelodeon cartoons. The accents and school uniforms made it clear they were made locally which even as a kid I found very strange, since my country does not have that much locally made children's programming, so to see it on an American channel like Nickelodeon, something you needed satellite TV to even access, always confused me at the time. Interesting to see Nickelodeon did this in South America as well. Although our shorts never features real bones lol. They were usually typical stories made by 8 year olds like an annoying kid brother stealing gum from his sister and the like. Because of how little my country cares about archiving, I'm going to guess none of those local short films survive in any capacity, since I think almost everything ever made here can be classified as "lost" lol.
