@@lyallg7925 Rock 'n' roll is just Black gospel music with secular lyrics. Always was, is and will be. And the REAL king of rock 'n' roll was Chuck Berry.

Great ? You must be joking, or blind. He was drugged to the eyeballs. Apparently he was dragged out of bed to do this interview. Elvis and Priscilla were known never to leave the bedroom for days or weeks. Their meals were left outside the room.

They don't get paid. One thing that assured was Elvis would not play the Grand Ole Opry same thing with the White House concert. Colonel Parker was interested until they explained they couldn't pay and he hung the phone up

The Opry disrespected the hell out of a guy named Elvis Presley. It was his Mobile to Jimmy Buffett. He had a right to maneuver that way. He was way bigger, To HELL WITH THEM. The Opry owned that pathetic vision. Own it!

@@bowiehamilton9888 I love the Opry but you don't get paid to play there if you remember. You are required to play there so many times to keep your membership up. Dumbest thing in the world for entertainers to do but everybody wants to say they played the Opry. I'm a small-time entertainer and have been for 50 years. I got the same from the Opera stage when the old one was still there. How? I took a free tours and when I hit center stage I sang a song and everybody applauded yay I did it LOL

Good to know these things. Up to now, all I knew about that night, I got from the mini series "Elvis, the early years" where they show Elvis at the Opry, wearing a red suit with red shirt and tie and he bombed out with the audience. They only showed scattered applause. Elvis runs out real upset and drops the red suit in the garbage at a gas station . Guess they just made it up, although I thought the red suit was really cool !

Bill Monroe here, is unusually (for him) open-minded about something new. He must have actually really liked Elvis’ version because when Bill played it from that point on, he kicked it off the slower, original way in 3/4 time, then would break into Elvis’ up-tempo 4/4 version.

Indeed, and more than most people think, Elvis was brought in to sing on Scotty's Album with Sun Records. Scotty Auditioned him with Bill Black at Bill's House. I am not sure how long that Scotty's Album lasted but he does not seem to care or even mention it as part of the History of the Phenomena. Great Guitar Player as well.
