If you notice, Arya gave Sansa the dagger as a reminder that it drove their family apart (littlefinger planted it to turn the starks against the lannisters). It was a symbolic moment that showed Arya knew littlefinger was the cause of their "fighting."
@roseofthegarden_6 жыл бұрын
Arya gave Sansa the dagger to subtly tell her that she's not a threat to Sansa. Arya was playing the game of faces with Sansa in this scene, because she wanted to gauge if Sansa was trustworthy or not. She'd read that letter earlier and she saw Sansa "not stick up for Jon" in her eyes, so she became suspicious of her. This was all real. But somewhere in this, she realizes Sansa is not actually a threat, so she gives her the dagger. Perhaps when she figured out Sansa isn't a threat, she also realized that Littlefinger was up to something, but she wouldn't know what because she doesn't know him. Then Sansa has the conversation with Littlefinger and when he implies that Arya wants to be Lady of Winterfell, Sansa doesn't believe it. She knows Arya never wanted that kind of life, so she goes to Bran to find out what is up. That's when the two sisters get on the same page; Littlefinger is the one behind their fighting. But Sansa actually knows what he wants because she knows him.

In the book Sansa not only wrote the letter to her family but Ned Stark had planned and hired the next ship to leave Kingslanding and stop at dragonstone to tell Stanis the truth that he is the legit aire to the throne. And commanded his daughters to pack up and they are not to leave their rooms until its time to leave, and not to breath a word of his plans to anyone. Sansa threw a fit and did not want to leave and felt it was not fair and did not want to leave her perfect life that would make her a queen and leave her love Jeoffery. So secretly she snuck out and went to the queen and told her all of her fathers plans. All of which gave the queen time to plan and seize Ned. What is great about the books is that the chapters were written from multiple characters point-of-view so you know what they are thinking. The early Sansa point-of-view chapters have Sansa wishing she had a different sister, one like Marcella, who like nice things (basically girly things) and she would ask her mother if she was sure that Arya was not bastard like her half brother Jon. Sansa hated Jon Snow and Arya when they were growing up. They were the only 2 kids that looked like Stark's. Catilyn might have influenced her hatred for Jon Snow. Jon Snow and Arya were treated like Black Sheep's by Catilyn. Catilyn is portrayed differently in the show. In the books she is the product of an arranged married to Neds older brother the wild wolf Brandon Stark who was tall strong good looking and outgoing. So after the Mad King killed him, Catilyn father insisted that Ned must fulfill the marriage contract if he wanted Riverrun and the houses pledged to Riverrun support in he war against the mad king. Catilyn admitted she was mildly disappointed with Ned, she was thinking that he would look and act like his brother Brandon. She found him shorter, more serious with a sullen face, and when he brought her to the North she felt like her life had lost color, she admits that it grew on her but you have to believe she filled Sansa with southern stories with grand tournaments & feasts. And Sansa looked like a Tully. So it is not far fetched that Sansa and Arya would have conflict.

A lot of the time, people forget that the characters in a tv show are not going to think like the viewers because we see things from the outside. It would not surprise me that in this entire stressful situation, it never occurred to them that he would turn the dragon as they are dealing with a lot of other crazy shit right now. It's the same way people said Jon was an idiot for what happened at the botb. Was it the smartest move? No, but would you just sit there and watch a psycho shoot arrows at your little brother or would you help him. And when he was killed, would you be thinking rationally? Probably not. A lot of criticisms (and before someone starts whining, I'm not dismissing all criticism) are because we don't think of things from the pov of the characters actually living the situations.

@2koldwilson6 жыл бұрын
All of these "issues" you complained about show you as being somewhat ignorant. The Arya vs Sansa was due to Little Finger attempting to turn Sansa against Arya, which is an important for the season finale. The Hound would definitely throw rocks like that in that situation before anyone else, guaranteed. Hendry was running the entire time to the wall, hence the reason he collapsed once he saw he was right outside. The near death experiences happen all the time in every season, it's for dramatic effect while also showing the severity of the situation. Which goes a long way when someone as good as Tormund goes down in a group full of top tier fighters against their foe. Not to mention, Benjen has been tracking and keeping up with the White Walkers plans and whereabouts, which is why and how he got to Jon in time. He was more than likely close by and waited for his opportunity to help if/when needed. Use your head my guy, I promise you won't get headaches after a while of using it 🤗👌

Turning the dragon on “the main one” wouldn’t have made a difference. Yes the fire can kill the Whyts (the undead zombie masses that make up the bulk of the army of the dead) however on 3 occasions the show has quite clearly shown that the actual White Walkers are unaffected by fire. They walked through fire at Bran’s cave, there is a walker who moves through fire in the burning building at Hardhome and then you see in this episode the Night King walks straight through fire unfazed. In fact the fire seems to stiffle as he goes through it. Remember guys the White Walkers are only the sentient frosty leader guys. They were all turned essentially as living beings. All the zombie guys that were attacking our heroes are NOT White Walkers. Just Whyts. They were all raised from the dead. The guy they’ve captured is a Whyt not a White Walker.

It's really sad that no one understands the importance of the northern independence. It's not Jon's "pride" at stake here, it's a long story of a population and a family that has lost sooo much for southern rulers. Mance was right in his choice: "they follow me because they believed in me, because they respected me, the moment I kneel for a southern king that's all gone." They are the FREE people, indeed! Of course, the first dragon to go down is Viserion, the one named for her asshole brother. I think the scene where Littlefinger teaches Sansa how he plays "a little game", you can see that _she's_ playing _him_ at this point (and I recall Sophie Turner confirmed something to this effect in an interview, too). He tries to lead her to believe that Arya wants to be Lady of Winterfell, which Sansa has known since childhood is NOT what Arya ever wanted. She still solicits his advice at times, because while untrustworthy overall, she can still learn from him (and glean more about _his_ motives)... but Sansa has already made it clear to her siblings that Littlefinger is not to be trusted, and she hasn't just forgotten that sentiment. She strings him along, making him think she's not wise to his game, to his trying to pit the Starks against each other, knowing that _she_ can get away with it because _she_ is his weakness. He has a blind spot, where she is concerned. He doesn't see honour as very useful, he values power and too often assumes others want it, too, so he doesn't realize that the sense of honour which was a weakness in King's Landing for Ned (who too often expected other people to be as honourable as him), which got him killed, is also what makes Ned's kids to stick together, _especially_ on their own turf. Honour works amongst the honourable, which the Starks all are... and no matter how many years they were separated, they still ultimately trust each other. The tension in them learning who each of their siblings has become is real; a satchel full of people's faces to wear as masks is certainly creepy as fuck... but these are tiffs between siblings, not tantamount to betraying one another for the sake of power. It's also possible that both sisters were doing a bit of theatre where Littlefinger could see it play out, so he'd think he was causing a real rift, although likely each choosing to put on some theatre without planning _together_ on that, if true. Ultimately, Arya showed Sansa she was not a threat to her when she let Sansa know that she could cut her face off with that dagger and wear it, if she wanted... but instead of doing so, she flipped that dagger around and handed it to Sansa handle-first.

Sansa also totally knows that the lords in the north aren't going to turn on her over a scroll she wrote under duress as a 13 year old child who was being held captive by the Lannisters and was trying desperately to save her father's life, despite what she says out loud to suggest she is fearful of them finding out about it. Robb clocked it right away as Cersei's words, just in Sansa's handwriting, when he received it, and surely the northern lords would see it in the same light. Smart Sansa led Littlefinger to believe she fears others knowing about that scroll.
@bcpr98126 жыл бұрын
This is the lame-ass text of the scroll, btw: "Robb, I write to you with a heavy heart. Our good king Robert is dead, killed from wounds he took in a boar hunt. Father has been charged with treason. He conspired with Robert’s brothers against my beloved Joffrey and tried to steal his throne. The Lannisters are treating me very well and provide me with every comfort. I beg you: come to King’s Landing, swear fealty to King Joffrey and prevent any strife between the great houses of Lannister and Stark." It's really not _that_ big of a deal... unless you're Littlefinger and you don't know the Starks as well as you think..

The thing I find strange is he approached this like he knew exactly what to do and also passed up the chance to take all 3 dragons or even Drogon who was grounded alot closer to him with all his enemies about to leave on him. I know if they all died that's pretty much the show being over here but I feel like with good writers there could have been a logical reason behind the night king basically letting them go and only taking one dragon. No one said the Ned was the sharpest tool in the shed, but Ned had made his plan for the girls and himself to leave after he argued with King Robert over hiring someone to kill Daenerys Targaryen which he resigned as Kings Hand and right before he was injured against Jamie Lannister and his men. Sansa had told the queen before Ned confronted her with her secret. When Sansa told her of her fathers plans to leave, at that point Cersei was happy to see the Starks leave, until Dumb ass Ned confronted her after Robert left to go hunting. MonarchVincent The reason why that scene was so important tho was because of the fact that the conversation she had with Littlefinger earlier was understanding motives. She listened to Littlefinger and fell for the bait he planted which was to doubt Arya. He played on her emotions and tried have Sansa think that Arya wanted to be “lady of Winterfell” which is why Sansa was going through her things in the first place. But the moment Arya gave her the dagger it dawned on her that Littlefinger was wrong. If Arya truely wanted to be “Lady of Winterfell” she could have. She had every right to be upset with Sansa and if she wanted to kill her and become Sansa and take her place she could have. Arya could have added her into her collection and no one would know because she could wear Sansa’s face but she didn’t. Because that’s not her. She never wanted to be that and Sansa understood that now.
@roseofthegarden_6 жыл бұрын
+Melanie Miller Except the scene where Littlefinger implies Arya wants to be Lady of Winterfell happens in the *next* episode. Sansa at this point was digging through Arya's things purely to find the letter and to keep Arya from possibly blackmailing her. Sansa never fell for the bait. Sansa has made it clear several times that only a fool would trust Littlefinger. She knows him and his motives, and Arya doesn't. Sansa was confused about how Arya got the letter and why she was acting the way she was toward her. And when Arya threatened to tell people about that letter, Sansa was fearful and tried to get it back. On the other end, Arya was suspicious of Sansa given their past and given the letter and how she felt she handled those who spoke about Jon, so she threatened her with the letter. Later, Arya played the game of faces with Sansa in her room. Somewhere in that conversation, she realized she was mistaken about Sansa and gave her the dagger, thus subtlety telling her she trusts her now. She probably realized Littlefinger was up to something after that scene because Sansa clearly wasn't involved with the letter being sent to Winterfell. Sansa then speaks to Littlefinger in the next episode, he tries to plant the idea that Arya wants to be lady of winterfell, and Sansa doesn't buy it because she knows her sister never wanted to be a lady. So she goes to Bran to figure out what is up with Arya's attitude toward her, because Arya wanting to be lady of winterfell, doesn't add up to Sansa as a possible motivation of Arya's. Thus Bran tells her Littlefinger planted the letter. Then Sansa realizes Littlefinger was trying to turn them against each other, and she knows why because she knows what Littlefinger wants, something Arya doesn't know.
@MelaneMiller6 жыл бұрын
Garden Rose You’re right about the full conversation being in the next episode and I should probably put “spoiler” at the top lol. However, through my opinion he tries to plant the seed with the conversation in this episode. In the next episode I feel as though it was more of him thinking he has a “check mate “ and Sansa finally realizing Littlefinger’s intentions. His “little game” gave her confirmation on what she knew Arya was and always what Littlefinger wanted. The reason why I say she fell for it was the fact that she sent Brienne of Tarth away after Littlefinger mentioned she serves “both ladies of Winterfell “. I don’t think she really believed Arya would keep her letter there so I’m not convinced that’s what she was looking for but I do believe she was trying to get a better understanding of who her sister really was now. And I understand that Sansa knows Littlefinger more than anyone at this point but her having doubts doesn’t equate to trusting him. The simple fact that she didn’t go to him to solve the doubts she had about her sister and tried to figure it out herself is kind of self explanatory to the fact that she didn’t trust him. Either way Sansa and Arya both understood after that conversation that they were completely different but still family.
@roseofthegarden_6 жыл бұрын
@@MelaneMiller For me, I thought it was clear why Sansa sent Brienne away. Just as you said, Sansa knows that Brienne is honor bound to serve both Stark sisters. She is sworn to *protect* them. Littlefinger reminds us of that, and that if one of the sisters was planning to hurt the other, she'd have to intercede. Now keep in mind that at this point, Sansa is the one concerned about *Arya* being the aggressor. Littlefinger was suggesting that Brienne would defend *Sansa* if need be. Now recall what Sansa once told Brienne when she bent the knee after saving her from Ramsay: "I pledge to ask no service of you *that may bring you dishonor. I swear it by the old gods and the new."* Forcing Brienne into a situation where she has to break her oath in protecting the sisters, by making her kill one of them, is bringing dishonor onto Brienne. Sansa sent her away to keep her out of that situation. She was protecting Brienne's honor. I think many forgot that oath Sansa made to Brienne and so they thought Sansa was being shady, when really she was keeping her pledge to Brienne. But as I stated above, Sansa knows Littlefinger. She knows him and Arya does not. She is the one who was immediately suspicious of why Littlefinger gave Bran the dagger. She is the one who blatantly stated she didn't trust Littlefinger, that only a fool would. The thing is, Arya is the one who had the crucial information that Sansa needed. Sansa asked her where she got the letter. Had Arya said I saw Littlefinger pick it up for you, this whole thing would have been finished before it started. But Arya didn't trust Sansa, she was suspicious of her, therefore she withheld the information. Later, Arya realized her suspicions of Sansa were wrong, that's why she gave her the knife. Arya probably realized then that Littlefinger was up to something, since her conclusion about Sansa was wrong, though she doesn't know what exactly. Later, Sansa played a game with Littlefinger to figure out Arya's intentions (because again, Arya is the one acting confusing to Sansa), and her conclusion doesn't add up. Arya never wanted to be Lady of Winterfell. So she goes to Bran for clarification, probably even asks him where Arya got the letter since it was that letter that really set Arya off. Bran probably then told her she got it from Littlefinger's room, and Sansa's missing information was suddenly completed.
@MelaneMiller6 жыл бұрын
I highly doubt that people forgot B's oath and Sansa's reply lol. Her character's whole mission has been to protect BOTH Stark girls since their mother died. But to think that Sansa sent her away because she could be used to hurt Arya isn't logical. B wouldn't kill Arya, period. Lol I feel like the moment Sansa asked her to do anything to harm Arya she would have just killed Littlefinger knowing he was behind it somehow. And unfortunately I don't think either of them were being the aggressor. If anything Littlefinger was the aggressor. He was trying to push agenda the whole time. ***It could be taken that B would defend Sansa, but it was to be a reminder that B would step in to protect Arya as well. His wording was to be interpreted both ways and was most likely to remind Sansa that B would keep Arya alive which is why he wanted her gone. Not only that but Peter knew B didn't trust him so it was in his best interest for her to be gone. (please remember when he even said he looks out for him only) And I feel like Sansa understood where Arya was coming from, her intentions were clear and her actions were consistent. Within the same conversation with Littlefinger she blatantly says that all Arya wants to do is to protect her family. Littlefinger goes on to remind her that "she is her family". It was Sansa who confused Arya. She didn't understand why she would write that letter, she didn't understand why she would let people bad mouth Jon, she couldn't understand why she would keep Littlefinger around knowing he was a creep. Arya wanted to know why Sansa (who she loves and is her family) would do things that would hurt the family. Sansa is a slow learner as she said but isn't stupid enough to think that Arya would kill her because that goes against what Arya wants. Also Arya didn't need to tell Sansa where she got the letter because she already knew. At the end of the day I feel like the Stark children played along with Peter the pedophile to understand how he moves. And at the end got him to show up to his own execution without realizing it. @@roseofthegarden_

That's just a visual effect that occurs. It's not CG, but just an object (Jon's hand) messing with the lighting in the wolf's eyes. It's likely that the jewel inside the pommel of Longclaw goes through the entire head of the wolf, so any shift in lighting from Jon's side affects the other side as well. Besides, why would the eye open? Jon wasn't dead or asleep, so the eye on the pommel opening would symbolize what exactly? Him resurfacing? Moreover, when the episode's director was asked about this, he said he never even noticed it, and that the eye opening wasn't done by them. So no, the eye doesn't open, its lids have always been open, and it's not an iris but just an artifact due to lighting. Sorry..
