23:50 They left the wall at a march and found the wight the same day, and Gendry arrived back at the wall the same day, so at most they marched for like 6 hours , so Gendry running back would take like 2 hours. Dragon Stone is 1900 miles south of the wall, so using the raven network it would take 20 plus hours to get the message to Dragonstone, assuming the birds are well trained and fly the fastest a raven is known to have flied in real life (45 mph), and the messages are transferred onto new birds as soon as the arrive at the transfer points (every 100 to 200 miles). The hard part now is how fast are dragons, since dragon don't exist there is no way to know, but they would have to fly fast enough to support their weight in flight. The slowest we have seen them fly was in the battle at the gold convoy at about 100mph (twice the speed of a battle trained horse), but we have seen them also fly way faster (at least twice that speed). So lets just say they can go 200 mph, that adds 10ish hour. So Jon and the crew had to be on the frozen lake for at least 58 hours (2.5 days and a bit). that time would also account for the time needed for the lake to freeze over thick enough for the battle to reconvene. Now of course it could have been a lot longer (double to triple), if the Raven system is in efficient or the birds are slower than expected, or if the dragons are a lot slower than estimated.

This is where I realized the show was struggling. There were earlier signs, I see that now when I rewatch, but I was in denial for those. But this was too much for me to accept. Gendry running back to the wall, conveying the message, getting the raven to Dany, her reading it and deciding to fly up there... all in the time it took for the ice in the already freezing north to freeze over again. I feel they should've done it a little differently, like realizing they were in the middle and sending someone to sneak out to go back to the wall, letting them try to stay hidden for a while before eventually being found at which point Dany could show up.
@bobdonda11 ай бұрын
I didn't realize it at the time, I was just enjoying the ride. Later I realized this episode is messy, but only just now that I notice how ridiculous it is. - they kill a walker, super conveniently a single wight is left alive - entire undead army is only a few minutes away from that location somehow - heroes run away to a super convenient rock island in the middle of a super convenient lake, and it's super convenient that the ice breaks when the undead run on it - Thoros freezes to death, in the morning Beric lights his sword on fire to burn him. how about doing it during the night to keep him alive? - Gendry ran for hours, the raven had to fly well over 1500 miles (!) to Dragonstone, Dany had to fly back, somehow this all happens in one day. seriously, people complained about the time skips at the time but I didn't realize just how ridiculous this is - no one thinks to keep hitting the ice to ensure it stays broken and the undead can't get to them - Jon keeps wasting time instead of getting on the damn dragon - pointless Jon fake death scene and reappearance from the water - super convenient appearance of Uncle Benjen to save him, who then randomly chooses to get himself killed by wights for no reason - Arya insulting and threatening Sansa for absolutely no reason at all - white walker army apparently carries massive chains around with them, and magically attached the chains to the dead dragon that's at the bottom of the lake This is REALLY sloppy storytelling. And like you said, just some small changes to help it make more sense could have fixed a lot of this and avoided the mockery. This is supposed to be a serious episode with the heroes' lives on the line and Cody is just laughing at it because the show makes it impossible to take it seriously

@@erikperhs_ Of all the dumb flaws at least there's a potential explanation for that one I admit. Maybe they can go in the water, they just hate doing it because they can't swim with those messed up bodies, so they're just useless in the water. It might be a stretch but I suppose I could believe the Night King could order them to lock arms and make a human chain, lower them into the water, and wrap the metal chains around the dragon. That's easier to belileve than the idea that they carry around massive metal chains with them all the time. Though actually this could have all been avoided if NK just resurrects the dragon underwater and it swims upwards on its own. @malkkum11 ай бұрын
Apparently Winterfell to Kings Landing is about 1,400+ miles and took them a month. Dragonstone to The Wall is anywhere from 1,500-1,900 miles plus however far north they were. So essentially a raven flew over 1,500 miles to get to Dany who then flew over 2,000 miles, all in less than a day.

When Arya was doing her "game of faces" bit with Sansa, she said "I could even be you. What would it be like to wear all those pretty dresses." ... and be a "lady". When she flipped the dagger around and handed it to Sansa, that was her acknowledgement that she knew that Sansa would see the truth.
@bobdonda11 ай бұрын
I get that the writers intended something along those lines. But what was the point of doing this at all? It might make sense if Littlefinger somehow held power over Sansa, and Littlefinger was in the room with her in that scene, and they needed to make him believe that they don't trust each other. But none of that happened so what was that scene even for? Why did Littlefinger even want them to distrust each other in the first place? It accomplishes nothing for him. Arya is not any kind of obstacle in his way. He wants to find a way to end up married to Sansa and in charge of the North, shouldn't he be doing everything possible to make himself look like a nice guy who only had to resort to shady actions in the past out of necessity?

Everyone complains about the "fast travel" in these last two seasons. I think it's overblown and pretty much a non-issue--except for this episode. The "running back, sending a raven, Dany flies out" all in a night is absolutely wild. (And I'm a person who still loves this episode despite that fundamental flaw for how fun it is.) The thing is, the writing could have very easily fixed this problem: have Dany go up to the wall with them and wait at the wall. There's no shortage of ways to brainstorm making a reason for her to accompany them at the wall, but not go beyond. Hell, have Dany say she'll go at the initial meeting, and have Tyrion say you can't go (like they do here) and have Dany actually take his advice but compromise by going to the wall with them, but not beyond, in case they need her help.

Where the hell did the White Walkers get those tow chains from? They were carrying around big long chains just in case they had to dredge up a dead dragon ? The night king should have just raised the dragon while he was on the bottom of the lake. It would have been a cool scene showing a zombie dragon exploding through the ice.

Spin Off Show/Fan Fiction - Tormund & The Hound Pitch - "Unemployed legendary fighters Tormund Giantsbane & Sandor Clegane, find themselves without jobs in the aftermath of the wars of Westeros....broke & alone, these two are forced to room together in order to make ends meet. Join them for the hilarity as they are forced to embark on a series of odd jobs, domestic duties, such as cooking and cleaning, adventures and the general mirth that comes with the unintended consequences of forced co-habitation between two highly interesting souls."

No Cody it is totally crazy. Totally crazy that the creators took what was so WIDELY beloved and basically made their career and crapped on it at the end and rushed it cus they were tired of doing it.

Loved the interaction between the guys at the start. The gathering of so many characters from the separate storylines. Kind of needed that as the rest of the episode was so intense and dark. Here is what got me wondering. It seems the Night King was very much prepared for this encounter. I mean why bother trying to get a small group of people when he has so many more in his army? If anything he lost more from his army than he would have gained turning all of them. I think the Night King knew from some other power that by being at that place and time that the dragons would come. Maybe the Night King's god showed him a vision just like the Lord of Light showed the Hound.

I’ll say it again…. Who cares if someone got back to wall quicker than we would think….or the same with message to help save them. In a world where dragons live, people are resurrected, and an army of the dead is on the march….getting from point A to point Z quickly is what bothers people? What that is asking for is less of the meaningful and often action packed scenes and more filler scenes.

I have learned to “forgive” D&D since the years have passed. The writing as far dialogue and intelligence is still there, but they needed at least 9 seasons to wrap things up, but the studios wanted to cash out while it was hot and they paid an outrageous amount of money to cut it short. Of course they told themselves they could figure it out and for the numbers they got, I would have done the same thing. Their grandchildren don’t have to work, that’s how rich they are now.
@OpeningsOpenings11 ай бұрын
Well I agree about 9 seasons - maybe even 10 (with full 10 episodes)
@abdullahkuzhan724711 ай бұрын
Really, you think it's appropriate to take an enormous amount of money at the expense of your honest work? They were rich anyway, all they did was go from super rich to super duper rich. That's some greedy shit right there. And the whole notion of "your grandchildren don't have to work anymore" rubs the wrong way. What’s so great about that? Chances are they’re going to become very spoiled. And as if working is the most dreadful thing on earth. Sacrificing your life work for money is crazy to me.
@changinlooks111 ай бұрын
@@abdullahkuzhan7247 I didn’t say I agreed with them, I was simply trying to explain how they justified cutting the story up in their minds……that’s it.
